Informative video. Thank you. I'm 62. I had a brief intro into the electric RCs in the early to mid-1980s. Recently rediscovered them with a RTR Traxxas Rustler 4X4 and a TRX4-Sport. If the military doesn't first use their RC UAV predator drones to extinguish all life on this planet I see a bright and profitable future for RC hobbies.

Great summary video thanks for posting. ... Can you ad a tech summary video if not done all-ready?, when were brush-less motors introduced with AC technology ESC etc, transition from AM to FM to 2.4 ghz was mentioned, video re-edit with a bit more detail on the tech be greatly appreciated. ( Gyro assisted steering more recently, and soon to follow Drone assisted auto-steer etc. ) Industry taking another tech leap this decade, should help increase popularity :) Videos like this helps the RC Hobby lots.

Very nice trip down memory lane. I was big into in 95. It fell of big time in 97 and my local track closed up shop. Lithium batteries and Brushless motors changed the game. The power and speed is amazing now.

I still remember the first time I saw a rc race as a kid in the 80s. I was hooked after that , I remember being in the hobby shop drooling over the Tamiya bruiser . My first hobby grade car was a used Rc10 . I used all futaba electronics and always sucked when some one was on your channel. Kids these days will not remember having to carry a bunch of Am and FM freq crystals In your rc box. Lol

Nice video! I still remember seeing that stampede in a folder in the 90's.
For me it started early 00's. With a hpi savage 25. Everyone had one or those large fg marders.
Later on i started 1/10 rc drifting. Way back in 2005. Crazy how fast that evolved and gained popularity over the years. From grabbing any 4wd on road chassis you could find (yes even nitro) and putting it on home made tires to purpose build carbon brushless drift machines. Did alot of competition driving till about 2013. Those battles were intense!
Quick changes in the rules and my interest in real cars made me decide to stop. Still have everything though, even the savage that started it all for me!

I used to be big into that. In 1983 I bought an Team Associated RC500 (a 1/8 scale nitro car) along with two friends and then we met more people into it and formed a club. So in the 80's we were racing them in a circuit with two other clubs. We always had to clean the parking lot surface and lay down all this lumber to form a track. We had a trailer to store it in and used the top of it for a driver's stand. We sure spent plenty of money and had a lot of fun. I remember too after one of our club members (a Team Associated driver) won the world championship in 1987 that was the end of the RC500 for some reason. Then we went and bought Serpent Excels or BMT's. I got the Serpent. Both these cars were way better than the RC500. Anyway, that was the "heyday" of this hobby too. That's when new technologies were constantly coming out. Full suspension had just come out on the RC500 when we got them. Then there were 2-speeds, quick change rear wheels, more rubber compounds. More powerful engines and better tuned pipes. Also we went from the Futaba "box" radio to the pistol grip. Computerized lap counting too. All this was when I lived on Long Island, NY.

I really enjoyed the video since I've been into RC since the 80's. I just want to give some feedback. I think it was a little bit too US centric not mentioning any brands outside the states. I also think you missed one very important part of the resurgence of electric and that is LiPo and brushless motors. You mentioned new Radios like 2,4GHz but this is a much bigger game changer for the industry. Thanks for doing the video and keep up the great work! Would love to see a 2.0... 😉

We used to put 10 & 8 turn motors in Golden Arrows and smoke RC10’s and they never knew what hit’em. Good times.

The track at the 10 minute mark is Lake Park in Tampa Florida and would be the Winter Champions race. We had a very active club and I want to say we had 400 entrants every year.

This was fun to watch. Something that I noticed was missing is the RC Drift racing class. Things have progressed quickly for the newer class and are taking it notes from pro drift racing including judging and large scale competitions. I remember it starting with kits like the HPI E10 which is an awd chassis and has now gotten to be completely RWD chassis from makers like Yokomo and MST. The scale cars can be beautiful as well, looking just like the full size counterparts!

I had the JrxPro. It was unbeatable, on a budget.

I didn't know RC had such an interesting community, until now I just assumed that the RC hobby was just about building expensive toys.

I was there in the hay days of both slot car and r/c car racing in the SF Bay Area. They were magic. But, now into rock crawling in the Reno area. Thanks for the memories.
