    Lock-tight, dont double nut, its easy to overtighten aluminium bolts and snap and strip them, and 2 nuts really doesnt do anything agaisnt vibration, no matter what even with two you can only go so tight, and even at the max (~20 FtLBS before aluminium studs snap) they will still vibrate loose double nutted. High Strength Lock Tight is the way to go. Also use locktight while installing your studs into the engine, once you remove one weak link the next one becomes vunerable, so if you locktight a bolt, locktight the stud its being threaded too to the block, otherwise whats the point? why glue something to something that isnt secure itself? Just some advice from my experience over the years

    You're going to snap your rear engine studs since the engine is only being held onto the frame from going backwards instead of being solidly attached on both sides

    That plate is way too far away from the frame, the plate should be touching the frame, not just u-bolted on, you're going to snap bolts and torque the engine to the side. Also, rubber eventually will just turn into a big plate of shredded cheese with these motors, just mount directly to the frame, it actually ends up feeling more sturdy and ends up being more reliable when directly mounted.

    For the u bolts use air tubing for aquariums. Depending on the size of u bolts that tubing works great.

    I used what's called "live rubber". About 1/4 in thick.
    I wrap both of the mounting bike frame tubes, and the flat points on the engine side of the mounts, just like you did your front flat plate mount but I add it to all mating surfaces. Front and Back.
    What I have found to seem to work the best, for me, is a brand new toilet rubber bottom gasket. From my local Hardware Store for a couple of bucks.
    They are a little over a 1/4in. thick and are easily cut with a Utility Knife and a straight edge. Thick enough to do what I want it to do.
    The "felt" vibration is reduced by more than half.
    A much smoother ride, tire pressure can now be increased a little for a little better Top End.
    I mount all with Flat washers, Lock Washers and Self Locking nuts, these are a must.
    Double nutting works good, too.
    In the automotive world, the engines, transmissions, and exhaust systems are all mounted using Rubber Mounts, just to reduce felt and sound of engine, transmission and exhaust pipe noise.

    Contemplating first build.... thinking a flying horse 48cc + buy a sprocket adapter and chain tensioner that mounts on engine. Thinking the adapter so it is not spoke driven but hub driven and possible related safety. Do you need to drill a hole for kill switch? This is possibly going on a Electra Cruiser 7 speed.

    People's comments are correct. The fuel filter is in the wrong way. Fuel should go to the outside of the filter fist so you can see how dirty it is and when to replace.

      +kuhakujack The fuel filter literally has an arrow on it that says flow.... And if you look at any old carbureted car, that’s the same way with the feel filter would be installed. It’s also an automotive filter.

    Rubber actually makes the vibration worse. If you spend the extra money and get a pk80 engine with a 40 mm mount you will get a solid mount and less vibration.

    Is the kill switch absolutely necessary or can the bike run without it

    • @Mad.Croatian
      @Mad.Croatian 5 років тому

      It's not important but I would wire it up as it's very convenient. These engines are easy to stall and kill on their own. You can either come to a stop with the clutch in and drop the clutch which should kill it or use the back brake while the engine is idling and it should kill it by dropping the RPM's too low. Stopping the engine this way is gnarly though.
      To wire it up just connect the 2 wires from the kill switch into the two wires going to the ignition coil (black, blue) and you're good to go. It doesn't matter what wire goes to where. The kill switch is just a button that shorts out the ignition coil stopping the spark plug from firing. It's 2 minutes of work that is worth the effort.

    Got everything installed and the clutch wont in work. The cable pulls the arm back fully but it still tries to turn the motor over?

    • @ThunderHead289
      @ThunderHead289  9 років тому

      John Smith if you have all the slop out of the cable - set casble with holding arm so that it has no play as well as the cable. you should not have a problem. make sure that right when you pull the clutch the arm begins to move. if it doesnt, there is slop in the adjustment. the next step would be the flower nut and if you dont have your initial adjustment right, the flower nut will screw everything up, so make sure your initial adjustment is correct before moving forward.

    • @ThunderHead289
      @ThunderHead289  6 років тому

      Laura Johnson hi Laura,
      When you let the clutch out is when the engine should move the bike. Check our cable - if while you are pulling the lever, the lever on the engine doesn’t move very much, you have to adjust the cable to take the slack out. The least amount of play possible is ideal for proper clutch operation

    • @eduardosapien1526
      @eduardosapien1526 4 роки тому

      Your back sprocket is on too tight to the rim hub. There is a cap that goes around the hub your squeezy that to the bearings you won't get your wheel turning. Remove that cap from hub then reset sprocket and you will have a wheel that spins.

When it gets dirty he'll never know because the dirt will be inside the filter not on the outside where the dirt is supposed to collect. Then his front motor mount is put together all damn wrong. Hes gonna bend those studs doing that crap. Your supposed to remove the studs and then use 2 bolts in place of the studs to mount that universal mounting plate then you put the u bolt on. His freaking studs are being clamped into the frame😂 terrible

    Ok your giving bad information first off no rubber 2nd you mount the engine right where it makes contact on both sides you wont have vibration 3rd if you align your sprocket correctly it will clear your frame and you need the sprocket teeth pointed inward towards the rim and use lock washers! Double nutting is a good idea as is lock tight

    • @ThunderHead289
      @ThunderHead289  5 років тому

      I haven’t done this since I was in high school since I’m a grown ass man, BUT every bicycle frame is different.
      This bike requires the use of a u bolt to mount the front of the engine - as much as I believe in rubber mounts, they allow the engine to slightly twist since they aren’t solid and the chain would hit the frame a bit under acceleration.
      The sprocket is offset to be used either way depending on the frame.
      I built and sold about 4 of this particular bike. They really rode nice.
      I still have my original motorized bike hanging on the wall in the garage - used to ride it to work when I lived in town. 1400 miles on the odometer.
