Delightful! Thanks for validating the concept finding our own flow...most teachers in the US try to fit a square into a round hole...It took me two years to find a setup that fits my trunk anomalies...now I have more rhythm without feeling that I must move more like the pros...at 79, I'm still improving..keep up the inspiration! Stressdr.😅
Well Stressdr that is inspirational to hear, well done on finding your own authentic swing and keep on improving…. isn’t it fabulous to still be getting better at this age? Brilliant!!!!
First time finding your channel I’m 75 10 handicap. I like this concept when I started playing we used to raise the heel. Somewhere through the years this I was taught not to do this. I just grabbed a club and tried it I like it. I just subscribed to your channel thank you
Fantastic! Glad you recognised something you have done before and are welcoming it back into your game. I hope you enjoy our videos as you should find we don’t do “tip of the week” we have a consistent message and will help you find a consistency in your game through our philosophy. Welcome on board!
There is so much to admire in this video. Really tired of watching coaches to elite golfers claiming to have found the secret elixir to unlocking the perfect swing as if it were some kind of god particle. You should not be able to play consistent quality golf with that swing path but thankfully nobody told Alex. He is just chipping it out there 300yds whit his driver. Best coaching for him is hit it, find it and repeat. Enjoyed the video, Tx.
Thank you - we work hard to help golfers find their own best or easiest way by just removing the obstacles to that swing. We don’t have a template model that everyone has to comply to. You only need to look at 10 different tour players to see there isn’t just one way to play this game.
This is my first time watching one of your videos and these things were exactly what I recently started working on: All of it. What I would like to mention is that if Alex goes to a good club fitter he's going to unlock even more distance and consistency. He had developed a swing based around his clubs and now he can really understand doing what feels natural.
This is one of the best lessons that I have seen that actually makes sense to me. Well done. Major kudos to this instructor. Great mat side manner. His teaching has been my strong belief for years. I do not like when anyone tries to get me to do something that feels contrived. Which is almost every lesson you go to, often starting with that "clubhead outside the toe line forever" thing. Don't get me wrong, I need direction. This gentlemen has a much better swing than mine. No doubt. But I love the idea of a more free, natural swing. Thanks for posting.
You're making me proud, grandpa. I've been picking up this swing slowly and noticed that I'm just much more aware of where the club head is and what direction it's facing. My strikes have had a noticeable improvement in consistency.
I was looking for some tips to help my swing as it had gone off recently and came across this channel. I watched a few videos in the morning and tried it out for 9 holes in the afternoon. The results were amazing. Straighter shots, consistent distance and felt effortless. Still need to practice some more, the trick is to relax and trust the natural motion. The finish "position" was absolute key. For a 63 year old 5 handicap I believe this will allow me to play to the same level for many years to come.

Great video have started using the easiestswing for a couple of months now and have looked good playing some good and ordinary golf what i had noticed is that i was hitting more thin shots the ball still went far so wasnt too fussed whats crazy is this i went to the local range and hit a bucket of balls yesterday and my wife said that my clubs looked to short for me which made me think might have something to do with the thinned shots but then i watch this video and you give the lad a longer club what a coincidwnce or will longer clubs work better with a more upright standing swing.
I’d suggest getting one club , 6 or 7 iron lengthened and see how it feels before having your whole set done or replacing them. Track down a good local club fitter who will help you with how much to extend it by. Good luck 🤞
I would like to see a session with a high handy cap. To see the improvement that happens. It was interesting to hear that his back felt better. That what cause me to find your easiest swing in the first place.
Did you notice that he went back to keeping his left foot planted but still commented about each shot being so much better, like he was actually following the method? Not one driver swing was relaxed with the left foot coming up. Even the instructor was praising him on how well his transition was going.
There were three elements to what he worked on 1 head position 2 head not having to stay still 3 fix the left heel to the ground. Sometimes even the knowledge that things like the heel doesn’t have to be fixed releases a freer movement. Often challenging someone’s erroneous beliefs helps them more than telling them to change their swing. They can then experiment over time with what works best for them. Remember there is no one size fits all swing in ES just discovering your own easiest way to play
Thank you so much for the video. I am a mid single digit handicap and 69 years old. I have been trying to implement the aspects of the Easiest Swing because of some minor back issues that come as I have aged. My question to you is about feel as I am a feel player. Assuming a good, connected backswing, is the downswing feel more of the body swing with more passive arms or is the feel more of an arm swing leading the body? I have historically been more of a body swinger but have been trying to activate my arms more. But it is a totally different feel for me and has been difficult.
I don’t think the arms should lead the body but more, to be the sense of swinging the clubhead and allowing the body and arms to swing in time with that swing. If you have been a body swinger previously that transition should be enough to take a lot of strain away from your body. Do you feel your hands and wrists working in your swing or have you more or less eliminated them previously?
+1 and never had a lesson. That’s pretty amazing. Also so interesting that at such a high level and working in the industry he’s never been properly fit or knew to consider longer clubs at his height.
When we were filming Alex was using a demo club that standard length, his own clubs were 1/2” longer but he had never tried 2” longer but as Philip and Alex are both 6’4” Philip lent him a club 2” longer. Since that session Alex has had his clubs lengthened by another 1”. A lot of fitters don’t like going more than 1/2” to 1” longer than standard
Brilliant Video Phillip...I just Wish you had Shown Alex exactly what the easy Swing is so he could see it for himself... and I feel seeing that Done properly May make him think that's the way forward...well done anyway.
Just bloody great. Watching this and find out you give the guy a club 2in longer than standard. The clubs I ordered, and now cannot change the specs, are going to come with standard length shafts....☹
I have used two inch longer than standard for many years but I am 6’4” and with 4 fused vertebrae in my spine and with long legs and short arms for my height. Alex is the same height as me and has had his clubs lengthened to 1.5” longer. You need to have clubs fitted for your height, build, swing plane and path not just copy what someone else is doing. If your clubs are wrong for you they can be adjusted in length and lie you just need to find a good workshop nearby where they can make these adjustments and next time you purchase clubs make sure to go to a decent custom fitter it’s very little difference in cost from a standard set sometimes exactly the same even. Once any adjustments are made your new clubs will feel even better!
Phillip : when you changed the students club, what was the change made- 2inches longer or 2* upright. He definitely hit the balls better with the second club.
The clubs were two inches longer. Alex and Philip are both 6’4” and Peter (on camera) is 6’5” we often find that taller golfers don’t have their clubs made long enough and this comprises the swing and posture. Obviously getting the lie right is also essential for all players regardless of height or stature. Clubs should always be built to fit you not the other way around.
Ive tried to conform to the 'tour standard' swing and get contorted at impact and i just cannot get my body to feel natural doing it. I regularly practice the L to L swing advocated by mike malaska and thats the only swing that feels completely natural to me. I keep getting drawn into the 'tour standard' methodologies and ruins my game completely. My swing thoughts are tension free hands and arms and swing left around my body. Finding 'my' swing has really helped my game!
As a 68 year old you may need to consider a more flexible shaft but best way to find out is to check out your clubhead and ball speed and take the advice of a good club fitter
I've been trying hard to lift my left heel of the ground on the back swing. I noticed if I'm thinking of doing it my swing is off. If I don't try to think about it and swing I'm not sure I lifted my heel, but I must have. I want to be able to lift heel on every shot including short irons. How do I stop thinking about raising my heel and just do it without thinking. I know over thinking kills golf shots. Thanks
Actually it’s easier than you think…. The key is not to be constrained by keeping the heel on the ground. Once you are released from that attempt, it really doesn’t matter how much or how little you raise it the key is to make a really good turn in your torso. Most golfers can’t do that because they are keeping the heel rooted.
Yes you are right Alex & Philip are 6’4” and Peter (cameraman is 6’5”) both Peter and Philip play with approx 2” longer. Alex was using +1/2” but has now changed to +1 & 1/2”
Hi Harley looking back at a previous query of yours re flipping I think this video will really help. Golfers Say 'GOODBYE' to Poor Arm Action in Just ONE Swing! ua-cam.com/video/LQtzlW5sWZ4/v-deo.html Also I’d say you should avoid thinking of manipulating a position at impact. I tried to do this many years ago and ruined my game for a while. Think of it this way - your impact is a result of what you did prior to getting there combined with what you do in the through swing AND your intention. Work on those three and impact will sort itself out. Hope that helps!
@@Easiestswing thanks for thinking about me.i looked at the above you tube. my lead arm folds in the follow through.. never had a problem with chicken wing. i do use a hands turn over. tried slap release but lost speed. i am trail side hands and arm dominant. lost a lot of speed due to age and not playing much. currently going to a trackman facility. need to practice and exercise.. all suggestions are appreciated. thx. Harley.
I am 6’4” and I think Alex was a similar height. I’d guess that if you are 6’ or below standard single length irons should be fine but if you are over this they may need extending. Worth a visit to a club repair person/clubfitter locally, I’m sure it would be a worthwhile investment.
Not really - it is very individual depending on each player’s requirements. Having said that a lot of seniors seem to enjoy using lengthened short irons and wedges as they often find the extra spinal tilt required difficult.
He has had his own clubs lengthened by an inch making them 1.5” longer. There is not really a one size fits all solution re length just make sure your clubs are fitted to you. But having said that any swing is more difficult to execute if the clubs are too short.
He is young and flexible so like many elite players can make a full turn even with his heel on the ground but the knowledge for him, that he doesn’t have to keep his left heel rooted and also not have to keep 60% of his weight on that side in the backswing allowed him a freer movement as you can see. Over time he will now find how much movement works best for him sometimes that only needs the smallest of movements to make all the difference to a player for others the heel needs to raise a lot remember we are all different!
A great many of the elements of your "Easiest Swing" are taken right from George Knudsen's teaching, yet there is no attribution. Shouldn't he get some credit? Having written that, I do like your videos.
The Natural Golf Swing was one of maybe 250 golf books Brian possessed and learnt from, there are definitely some parallels, but his other favourites were Ernest Jones, Bill Mehlhorn, Bob Toski, Manuel de la Torre, Fred Shoemaker, Harvey Pennick , Bobby Jones, Sir Walter Simpson, Annika Sorrenstam,Timothy Gallwey to name but a few.
Look into how the lead wrist positions at impact change generally with different grip styles & strengths, but not always. How you’re gripping the club can largely effect how that lead wrist is going to be through impact, bowed, square or cupped. There’s also other factors besides grip like how you’re swinging, how much you’re rotated through at impact, etc. there’s no 1 wrist position that works with all swings. A big problem with a lot of online instruction is it only applies to 1 swing style, is incomplete information or is targeted towards common faults & patterns. Very few things are actually constants that every player ideally should be in. Like swing tips promoting wrist flexion (bowed) are generally target towards many beginners who are very cupped & get scoopy through impact but some players need the opposite. The most important thing is matching up your own swing tendencies with your own ideal positions which may be completely different from another player’s. ✅Dustin Johnson uses a strong grip, lots of wrist flexion (bowed) and very little forearm supination through impact. ✅Webb Simpson uses a strong grip, lots of wrist extension (cupped) and a lot of forearm supination through impact ✅Bryson uses a weak grip, a flat wrist at the top and more supination through impact than most Don’t get tricked into thinking there’s only 1 way to do things, besides some basic fundamentals there are many possible factors that cause & effect difference in ideal positions. 1 large factor in finding your own matched up positions are your strikes & ball flights, if you’re striking it fairly solid with nice ball first contact and have a lower penetrating flight already, trying to bow your wrist more probably isn’t the right move for example. If you tend to be cupped at the top (p4) and hit a lot of fat/thin shots or scoopy shots that launch kinda high but don’t go as far as they should (especially with short irons/wedges) you could probably use some flexion (bow) in your lead wrist. But again there are multiple factors like how & when you’re transferring your pressure throughout the swing, ball position, how you’re swinging the club in general, if you stay fairly connected with a nice backswing vs a separated backswing with to much arms & little upper body rotation or a combination of them, etc. it can all seem very complicated but knowledge is power and the more you understand all the facets of golf like swing mechanics & biomechanics, how the relate to the new laws of ball flight, course management, sports psychology, etc. the easier and more simple everything becomes. With enough dedication it can become so easy it’s laughable. Of course you then have to apply the knowledge to your own swing and work hard with intention to ingrain the proper movements, you get to a point where you don’t have to think about any positions at all, you just swing. The more you understand the more the big picture becomes clear and again very simple but it takes time to learn on & off the course. Golf-“the never ending pursuit of unattainable, perfection. “Good luck 🍻
Sadly there are lots of myths in the game one of which is that clubs shouldn’t be longer than 1” above standard. Lots of people believe this despite the enormous variations in build and swing shape amongst us all. It is most important to find the right length for you and your game which is dependant on so many factors. Ian Woosnam is 5’4” tall and played with longer than standard clubs, which just makes you realise it requires an open mind to find the right fit for each player.
Given that this is about swinging easy , I’m surprised you didn’t jump in when he said he was going to try and hit the driver harder. The outcome immediately was two bad shots. It didn’t seem to me as though he was doing much different other than a slight change in head position and an attempt to relax the control of the club face. The longer club made an immediate impact. Maybe it was the camera angle but the ‘danse’ wasn’t particularly evident. I did a group day with Julian on “Easiest Swing’ and there was much more input on making that turn away and lifting the heel. This is not intended to be critical , I’m just trying to reconcile the input he was given with that which I was given. I watched back a second time and he isn’t lifting his heel.
I take what you say, but you also need to take into account that Alex is a plus one golfer who has never had a lesson before, so any change he makes feels enormous to him especially as he had previously worked on keeping his weight on his front foot throughout the swing and had never even tried lifting his heel before. I’d suggest watching the whole session again and asking yourself whether his swing looked better before I challenged some of his beliefs or after? Easiest swing is not prescriptive, we are not looking to make golfers all clones of each other but rather, through a set of key principles, allow golfers to free themselves from previously held dogma that they have to do it in a certain way. Note that he had also been trying to conform to a tour style takeaway and that once he was allowed to let the club follow a more natural path his swing became more relaxed. We achieved a lot in just 30 minutes or so and within two weeks he shot a four under par round - his best round of the year in which he says he didn’t putt well but hit the ball beautifully.
A player of his standard is going to be able to feel the difference between trying to keep the heel down and not. Even if we can’t see the difference. Over time he will experiment with how much to move it - also, unlike most of us, he is young enough and flexible enough to create a full turn with very little movement of the heel.
He said he had been indoctrinated to believe he should keep 60% of his weight on his left foot throughout the swing so of course he was not moving from the feet up. Hopefully ES provided a glimpse for him into another world where good footwork is the base that supports stable movement. He was very honest about this aspect of his game
Leave … bro … plus1 doing it your way .. & this old fella wants you to do the complete opposite … Hear. Of Ricky Fowler ..- his old fella new coach did the same thing & he lost his pga tour card ( liv players let him keep it) .. do what got you to the dance …
You're right that imposing views on a golfer who is naturally talented can be a recipe for disaster. Alex was trying to conform to other peoples ideas, the so called "tour template". All we did was allow him the freedom to swing his own swing. Challenging existing beliefs opens the doorway to new discoveries. Alex found a less restrictive and more free swing movement that enabled more control, less effort and a shot shape with a driver that together is helping him shoot some of his best rounds...
Stupid comment. Scratch golf is about much more than the swing. Its a mentality and ultimately its about your ability to recover well from missed fairways and greens.
There are so many different swings I’ve seen that are scratch or better. Scratch is pretty good but not as good as some people think, it’s more obtainable than they think as well with the right dedication, practice, some natural hand eye & athleticism it’s very reachable for tons of players. The problem is people don’t do the work on & off the course to actually understand the game & they don’t do the very intentional practice that isn’t always fun like making 100s of backswings in a mirror without hitting a single ball or chipping & putting for hours. They just go aimlessly hit drivers on the range with no real intention behind their practice which will only get them so far.
We hope you enjoyed this coaching session with Alex... share your swing beliefs in the comments and let's challenge them together! Make sure to head to easiestswing.com for more guidance on your Easiest Swing journey ⛳
Phillip, you made Brian very proud with this lesson! To take a very good golfer and get him to be more free is quite an accomplishment. Well done!

This is my first time watching one of your videos and these things were exactly what I recently started working on: All of it. What I would like to mention is that if Alex goes to a good club fitter he's going to unlock even more distance and consistency. He had developed a swing based around his clubs and now he can really understand doing what feels natural.
Absolutely right - no amount of coaching can overcome badly fitted clubs. Well done on identifying all those issues and sorting them out.

Great video and tips, wish there was an Easiest Swing coach in SW England.
Glad you liked it and we hope to get some more coaches in UK and US in due course

Any update on Brian and his course game?
I think you mean Alex and yes he shot 4 under the week after this and 2 under last weekend.
How about a lesson for a 65 year old 20 handicap! That would be a test!!
All in the planning!
Wow! Look at the size of his right arm! I think he needs to use his other hand now and then.
position of hands and arms at impact mid irons ?

Work on those three and impact will sort itself out. Hope that helps!
@@Easiestswing thanks for thinking about me.i looked at the above you tube. my lead arm folds in the follow through.. never had a problem with chicken wing. i do use a hands turn over. tried slap release but lost speed. i am trail side hands and arm dominant. lost a lot of speed due to age and not playing much. currently going to a trackman facility. need to practice and exercise.. all suggestions are appreciated. thx. Harley.
Will I need longer shafts in my irons? I play with 1length irons. I am 77 yrs. With a 10 handicap.
I am 6’4” and I think Alex was a similar height. I’d guess that if you are 6’ or below standard single length irons should be fine but if you are over this they may need extending. Worth a visit to a club repair person/clubfitter locally, I’m sure it would be a worthwhile investment.
Phillip do you often recommend longer clubs ?
Not really - it is very individual depending on each player’s requirements.
Having said that a lot of seniors seem to enjoy using lengthened short irons and wedges as they often find the extra spinal tilt required difficult.
@@Easiestswing thanks
Did he go back to his usual length iron or keep using to 2”+? Are longer irons better for the easiest swing?
He has had his own clubs lengthened by an inch making them 1.5” longer. There is not really a one size fits all solution re length just make sure your clubs are fitted to you. But having said that any swing is more difficult to execute if the clubs are too short.
even using his driver his left heal does not leave the ground so how can he say his swing was much more free and relaxed?
He is young and flexible so like many elite players can make a full turn even with his heel on the ground but the knowledge for him, that he doesn’t have to keep his left heel rooted and also not have to keep 60% of his weight on that side in the backswing allowed him a freer movement as you can see. Over time he will now find how much movement works best for him sometimes that only needs the smallest of movements to make all the difference to a player for others the heel needs to raise a lot remember we are all different!
what do you think about tom tomasello teaching?
TT was one of the only coaches to make sense of TGM
Hi Alex, should we be concerned with this obsession with getting the left wrist bowed all the way to impact?
We should be concerned with anything that says we all have to do it the same way!
✅Webb Simpson uses a strong grip, lots of wrist extension (cupped) and a lot of forearm supination through impact
✅Bryson uses a weak grip, a flat wrist at the top and more supination through impact than most
Don’t get tricked into thinking there’s only 1 way to do things, besides some basic fundamentals there are many possible factors that cause & effect difference in ideal positions.
Where they his irons the shorter length ones? Could that of been a fitting mistake?
Good swings, but not picking up left heel as he suggested
A player of his standard is going to be able to feel the difference between trying to keep the heel down and not. Even if we can’t see the difference. Over time he will experiment with how much to move it - also, unlike most of us, he is young enough and flexible enough to create a full turn with very little movement of the heel.
Noticed left foot not lifting 😢
Watch from 9.47 again
I bet he shanks the ball occasionally
He hit balls for about an hour and then off and on during the rest of the day while we were there, we never saw him hit one
@@Easiestswing it looks like he stretches to the ball at address
He looks totally flat footed?
He said he had been indoctrinated to believe he should keep 60% of his weight on his left foot throughout the swing so of course he was not moving from the feet up. Hopefully ES provided a glimpse for him into another world where good footwork is the base that supports stable movement. He was very honest about this aspect of his game
@@Easiestswing great answer, I did hear him state that. It makes perfect sense. Thank you..
Left heel still flat on backswing
That’s right but at least he knows he’s allowed to move it now!
Scratch player no way 10 handicap
Two under par last week four under par three weeks ago - is that a typical 10 handicap?
