    I am 65 like you. Relaxed my club head speed is around 103 and my drives are similar to yours, around 270 total I feel like I have more speed, but control goes out the door. One of the challenges we face as we age is accepting limitations. My shoulders have been shredded from years in the Army. We learn to play smarter and enjoy the game more because we can't overpower our mistakes. Thank You for sharing your love of the game and helping more people enjoy it longer!

      Thank Kevin for those lovely and encouraging thoughts. Well done too on still “getting your drives right out there” at our age it’s great fun as not many others expect it of us. Keep playing pain free (I hope) for many years ahead.

    Thank you for an interesting demonstration.
    I fully agree with the easiest swing ideas.
    I am 80 years old & a good drive is usually on the fairway but only 150 to 160 yards away.
    Philip has the ability to time his shots to help generate good distance.
    He makes it look so easy.

      Thanks Alan and keep on working on it. I know you are a long time follower of Easiest Swing but sometimes breakthroughs can occur even after years and years. I have been working on something in my own game which I have been discussing every week in the club for the last two months and I’m only just starting to get it right and just about to move onto something else which will also take another couple of months to sort out. You need to take on board the “Three P’s” Patience, Practice and Perseverance!

    You may be swinging smoothly but you have correct sequencing in your swing which enables the “ effortless “ power. I’m in my seventies and can still get it out there when I lift my left heel as Nicklaus did. I think the majority of older golfers have trouble with initiating the downswing with the hips. Raising the lead heel and replacing it to start the downswing helps me with weight transfer and hip rotation.

    Informative - and inspiring - video! I recently bought the shorter Hole-In-One device but wasn’t sure how to “load” the setting - your video cleared that up for me. We do have a couple of videos when Séan Peter and I played at Alcanada We Played a Challenge Tour Final Golf Course (Easiest Swing Pt1)
      ua-cam.com/video/GIgnHzq-b18/v-deo.html and we will shortly be releasing a game Peter and I played at Royal Ashdown Forest GC recently I hope you enjoy these. However, your issue is one of habit, it just shows that under the pressure of being on the course your old habits revert. This indicates it is not a physical issue so much as a mental one. Maybe come and join us at the ES Club where we can guide you through the process. I have actually been posting a weekly thread for the last two months very much along these lines. Finally the fact you are learning to achieve your easiest swing on the range indicates you are on the right tracks you possibly just need what I call the three P’s Patience, Practice and Perseverance!

    Great video Phillip. I’m very impressed with your takeaway and balanced finished. Your takeaway seems very natural. Not a typical pro one piece. I go back and forth as to my takeaway. I’ve tried the one piece but it seems very unnatural. Can you comment on your thoughts on the takeaway? Again very useful information.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Рік тому +3

      Hi thanks for those kind comments. I like to think of Wild Bill Melhorne’s statement “if you never interfere with the swinging of the clubhead, every ball will go straight”. To me a one piece takeaway is interfering with the natural movement or swing of the clubhead so I deliberately avoid it. Watch out for a video coming soon where I give a coaching session to Alex from Golf Swing Systems where we discuss this exact issue. Alex plays off plus one and was trying to achieve a one piece takeaway even though naturally he swings more inside. Alex plays off plus one so is a good player, watch and see how much easier his swing becomes once freed from this unnatural and contrived movement.

    • @philipsparks8351
      @philipsparks8351 Рік тому +1

      The most likely causes are
      1) hitting down on the ball too much and striking above the equator of the ball
      2) delofting the club
      3) shaft angle leaning too far forward at impact
      4) body weight getting too far in front of the ball.
      5) clubface is shut relative to the path you are swinging on
      Suggest you check each of these in turn and see f any one or more of them make a difference.

    I do have a question, though.
    If I swapped out to your swing, would I need to go and get refitted for my irons and woods, shaft flex ect.
    As I wouldn't be swinging as aggressively as I am now, thus at present I'm fitted into a stiff flex driver shaft, and I'm currently using stiff graphite in my irons

    My backswing is getting better. I can feel how soft or tense I am but it is hard to get it. When I am almost without tension I usually will get the click at 160 yds. Part of way to practice I imagine of using a putter. I have that softness while using the putter. I have also a problem of letting my wrists bend at top of swing. I tell myself to reach the top and then start the downswing. Otherwise I bring in tension before the top of swing is complete. Sometimes I lose the feel and so I back down the yardage until I get the swing back. Then practice that until I feel that I can go up in yardage. I am already past the yardage I got last year on the course. I hope I have more yardage and can keep on the fairway. I need the practice of hitting an actual ball on the course. Have to wait for that. Might be a few months before the course opens again.

But, you’re right in that when I really try to go over, is when I can’t even hit the 97mph.
      It HAS to be more relaxed.
      Plus, if I’m not making it click until after the impact zome (mine is just before the impact zone), then I’m probably swinging outside my range anyway, right?

      That is spot on Lawrence best to regularly err on the side side of a less aggressive swing and get that click just after impact. Hi Philip. I've now watched this lesson about ten times, so I guess that makes me a disciple. Two more questions please: What speed is the "mid" setting you use on your Swing Caddy? And what clubhead speed were you generating on those lovely drives in this video? Thanks! Rein from Toronto.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  10 місяців тому

      Hi Rein glad you’re enjoying the content. The mid setting is around the 70mph on the Swing Caddy but you need to find your own “mid” setting so don’t worry if that’s lower for you. My clubhead speed with a driver is just under 110mph. I hope you can see this is achieved more with a swinging motion than by sheer physical effort. I do know with my age (65) and physical limitations (wrist, shoulder and 4 fused vertebra) none of this would be possible if I didn’t rid myself of the 3 deadly don’ts which I’m still working on improving.

    I have a hio and been practicing with it. I have biggest problem of hinging my wrists at the top of swing. Is there an exercise to release the wrists. It is hard for me to have a easy back swing also. When I first pick up the hio, I have a easy backswing. I put the club down and pick it up again and it feels smooth and easy but if I hold it for a few swings, it has more tension in the swing. I can hit 190 yards, if my hinge is right and have an easy feeling backswing. I am getting pretty consistent at it. Sometimes if I am not getting the click, I back down a few yards on the hio, until I get the click again. What exercise can I use on this or just continue practicing the way I am? I can hit around 215, at times but I have to swing very hard. How far would the ball go after hitting 190 yards? How many yards total would the ball go? About how far total? I work on the practices that I got from watching your videos. I have watched about all the videos and I have read the Positive Impact Golf book. Thanks for all the help.

    I was a little amused by the 'effortless' first swings, followed by a swing with 'half the effort'. As a math major, that puzzles me a bit. But I will give it a try anyway, next time on the range. 😉
    One question: do you do anything with your right hand to speed up the swing? Any conscious throwing motion?

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  8 місяців тому +2

      Weirdly, I find the less I try to release this the better it happens but that may be due to a lifetime of trying too hard! Here’s a thought for you though - if golf were mathematical you would simply hit the ball harder to make it go further and we all know that doesn’t work!! Look up “proprioception” if you need some logic about how the body works and figures some of these things out.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Рік тому +2

      It is usually an issue of the fear of movement. The left heel should respond to a full turn, a full turn will be easier to make when your head is allowed to move more freely in backswing. Just having the intention not to fix your heel to the ground is a great way to start. Keep going!

      Hi Tim, I was also massively influenced by X factor and lower body resistance in the nineties and still find at times that my whole left leg doesn’t move enough. The last lesson Brian gave me he encouraged me to move my left knee, left hip laterally towards my right leg. When I remember to do it my swing massively improves. Give it a try it might be the missing link! It’s the great thing about this game - you can always improve no matter what level you play at!

The Swing Caddy is the best training aid there is for learning the correct wrist, hand and arm movement you need in an Easiest Swing. Most golfers struggle to get it to click on it's lowest setting, because they don't engage their wrists properly. The feeling it gives you with the feedback from the click will allow you to progress rapidly towards an effortless and powerful golf swing. Phillip, I also had multiple lumbar fusions, along with bi-lateral hip replacements all done between age 63 and 67. After a long recovery I’m back to playing once per week with a bit of practice if the sciatica stays dormant.
    I noticed you stand fairly erect and have an upright swing plane.
    Would u recommend upright plane with slight hip tilt for players with low back issues? If so do u think I should have my new clubs bent from standard lie to more upright? I’m 6’ even and use standard length Ping irons, black dots. Since I go down grip a bit I’m hoping by placing off butt end I won’t have to have the expensive 45 gram shafts replaced.
    I’m familiar with the Ping contact board and I have a fitter who could change lie angle.

      I would agree that a more upright stance should place less strain on your body. Did you know that you can get graphite extensions to your shafts. I am 6’4” and always played 1” longer until my op now I use 2” longer and they feel great. So suggest you try 1” longer plugs just get a medium iron done to try before you have the whole set done. You may need to get the lie adjusted too after the posture change but make sure your fitter does that based on dynamic lie not just static.

      I’m 65 and neither can I! Suggest you just remove any restrictions that prevent you making the fullest backswing that feels comfortable for you. Check:
      1 are you allowing your left heel come away from the ground at the top of the backswing. 2 are you letting your head move naturally throughout the swing rather than trying to keep it still 3 are your wrists and hold relaxed. Concentrate on those three and a full turn and you’ll get your own fullest swing. It’s not necessary to get the shaft to point to the target to make a full swing. Good luck with those thoughts 👍

      This is usually caused because some part of your body action is slowing or stopping in the through swing. If you can keep everything freewheeling into the follow through the wrists shouldn’t flip. The other cause can be leaving the clubface too open before impact so that your instincts square it up quickly at the last minute. If you watch some of our other videos they help you with this but this one is where I would start.

      You are right of course but our intention is to help golfers to find more speed which they undoubtedly can if they can free themselves up more and release themselves from putting in too much physical effort. Players who are swinging at 70 mph are unlikely to suddenly get 100mph but perhaps they can add another 10mph with ease as this recent comment indicates...... “I’ve had both knees and hips replaced. My back is frequently sore. I’m still golfing but it can hurt to swing and distance has of course reduced. Then by chance I watched your video about being relaxed during the swing and some other tips on timing and tempo. I also began practicing La Danse. Since then, I have been hitting the ball like I’m 30 years younger, and without any pain! My drives are blasted down the middle (20-30 yards more). I waggle before swinging, checking there is no tension, then I trust my body to do what I want it to do. Bang, drive after drive crushed right at my target. Same improved results with my irons. And now I have this leg routine to practice (SLX). The change is amazing, like magic! Thank you” David Grabowski (69)
      We get comments like this all the time so I do believe we are on the right tracks

    I came to golf as a 48 year old who had to give up hockey and other sports due to leg injuries. In the nearly 4 years since I began to take golf more seriously (taking lessons, upgrading my equipment etc), I have noticed that golf has a couple of fatal flaws, one of which is touched on here so I would like to bring it up and see what kind of discussion happens.
    It always confused me why people in golf seem to think that in order to be a good teacher, one must necessarily be a good player. Not just good, but in fact VERY good to excellent. What other sport in the world shares that thinking?? None that I know of. Second, every golf instructor I ever went to used professional players as examples for my training. The more I thought about it, the more absurd it seemed. Again, in what other sport do you use professional models as a way to instruct beginners?? None that I am aware of.
    In both examples, the exact opposite seems to make more sense to me. I have found that most of the time the best coaches in any given sport were not particularly good players. There are many reasons for this but chief among them is likely that they know better what we are going through as beginners/novice players. They can relate to how we developed our games and what causes the plateaus that we get stuck on. And as far as using professional models for instructing beginner players, this makes no sense whatsoever. If I were going to teach someone to throw a ball (just as an example), I would certainly not start out by showing them a major league baseball pitcher! That would be crazy. There is a process to learning and when learning a physical skill, the best way is usually to break that skill down into pieces and parts that can be worked on separately or at least one at a time. I have often compared learning golf to learning a dance move. You don't dive right in and imitate the best dancers in the world, you begin by following the foot steps ONLY. THEN you learn the tempo and timing of those foot steps and then incorporate the hands and arms.
    I am interested to see what everyone thinks, so please reply and let me know!

    Actually I’m little bit disagree with the concept that tour swing method has a more potential distance as your. Your method is more based on the laws of humans anatomy and biomechanics. Effort and speed is in default two opponents. The laws of biomechanics determine , the proximal force determines the speed of the distal limb. The big question in golf industry is what means proximal forces. Your method does not contradict the human anatomy, which means much less injury and, by tapping into the strength potential of the lower body, much greater potential for speed and, therefore, distance.
