You can insure the watch.
I honestly did not even consider that. Great point!
The watch could potentially attract more trouble than it might save you from.
Lmao That’s perfect.,,,. In that case then I’ll change my answer to the first question Cuz I posted about why I wouldn’t use the Rolex along with my other picks, but that is a brilliant idea with the insurance haha .... Multi Purpose & Multi Use Gear 😂
@Luke Bolton But volatile.
The moral of the story is to buy a Rolex. Nice Yachtmaster, Sean!
Who does this pertain to? My list of tradable items would be:
Casio watch
Half a pack of cigarettes
$13 dollars
It pertains to heroes that are lied to, they are told that whatever mission they are on will save the country yet, we all know the intelligence communities played their hand in 9/11 to justify pushing the patriot act, they then used that to spy on Trump, Flynn and others as part of their coup. They were also behind the capitol violence as actors wearing Trump hats and assassinated Ashley Babbitt to further their narrative. Everyone knows but the top brass are in some weird state of denial, the gigs up lady's!
I’ll take the watch if it’s a gshock
@@double-eagle-dave 😆
Haha...planes trains and automobiles
Lmaoooooo
7 gold coins could get you out of 7 different scenarios. The watch is a one and done.
Agreed
If I were to rob someone and he presents me a gold coin, I would know for sure that he's rich and look for more
My first and only choice is the coins!
The gold will get you killed. Then they take it all. It’s statistically proven.
Man aint nobody doing sh** for a coin of gold , they would rob your a** and take the whole thing
Great video! Nice to see a conversation starter, rather than just giving answers. A lot depends on the scenario for me. For walking around everyday USA, I try to keep a decent amount of cash on me. I figure if the shtf, all I need is a ride or whatever to get home. When I take longer trips, I take more options. When things get weirder, I might change things up... thanks Shawn!
My Casio G-Shock got me back to my motel safely once when I was a teenager. I was on vacation alone surfing in the pacific and only brought my debit card and small local cash for food and a board rental. I ended up losing my debit card and was far from my hotel. The sun was going down. No money, no phone, and no real idea of where on the island I was. Just knew I was too far to walk back. A local boy agreed to take me back on his motorcycle if I gave him my watch. As an adult I’ve learned so much on “what not to do” from that experience. Since then though I’ll never leave the house without a watch on. Our experiences in life determine what actions we take in the future.
I get ya! I wear a garmin Tactix delta for the same reason but different method… they don’t look as flashy and cool as the g-shocks but they do have full gps. I’ve navigated in Canada, Mexico, Colombia… and because it’s so boring looking it doesn’t garner attention from thieves… knock on wood.
My mom is from Mexico. She gives me rings as gifts. Real gold. She told me to think of them as currency if ever needed. I try to wear two at a time but took it down to just one with a diamond 💎. I also have my dearly departed's carry on me with an extra magazine if that doesn't work.
Cash is king. Haven't seen anyone who doesn't know the value of a hundred dollar bill.
Seen lots who don't care about a Rolex.
It's difficult getting value for the Rolex in some conners of the world.
Only if it’s in the accepted currency of wherever you are. They might take USD pretty quick, but precious metals are widely accepted as “money”.
This was neat, thanks Shawn. More would be pretty cool!
Every time I see a new vigilance elite video, it feels like Christmas morning
I hear you! haha Thank you for watching.
Right!! IMO best content on the internet.
Ain't that the phuxn truth.

@@kirbsyde8965 I do whatever I want bro, this is America 😉
When you stop learning something that day... you stop living. Stay safe and be well.
Great point. Cheers
My precious metal(s) of choice is lead and brass..

@@themanyousendtokilltheboog3900 agreed.
Shawn , this style of vid was an EXCELLENT IDEA! It was fun , engaging , and educational. Not to mention it was Unique AND DIFFERENT.
With gold you can do half up front and half when you’re safe. Seems like a better insurance policy than a Rolex that people will be spotting on you.
Yep snap that combibar right in half... now 👉 💰 later 👉💰 ...ok we go then
Shawn, that was actually a pretty cool interactive video... never seen that done before... please come up with more “scenario” or “what if” videos... very well done my friend! Cheers...
Will do!
I agree!!

Cash is king. Easy to carry and a common negotiation tool that can be used/spent without others taking too much notice.
Gold, Silver or the Rolex would draw a lot of attention in Foriegn lands, especially for an Agent or Operator in a poorer country.
Plus, the cash could be used in pieces, or easily split among 2 or 3 people that are maybe all together like guarding a gate.
That was really interesting exercise.I enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to seeing more classes.Thank You.
Your gona be raising a son that this country needs...Awsome man...your gona have a great first fathers day!!! Much respect what you do for us civilians
This is just a guess.... Shawn will keep that boy as far away from the Military as humanly possible. WHY? Because... finding out that your incredibly noble and courageous reasons for serving were actually just to provide wealth, power, control, and dominance FOR the powers that be.... It is an impossibly strong and sickening feeling. It is not surprising that the suicide rate of Veterans is over DOUBLE that of the civilian population. Let that sink in....

Thank you!
Just a friendly reminder from UA-cam’s favorite navy seal on how to be better prepared. You’re a boss my dude. 😎
The watch is always good because it’s finite, there’s no haggling. If you offer any kind of $ payment they’ll always think you have more.
give me your whole watch box and we will talk
Who's to say that, if you possess a genuine Rolex, that you don't also have cash?
@@flyoverkid55 a few hundred dollars of cash < Rolex worth 10k
@@snakeoo7ca The Rolex is a one time deal. Then you have nothing left with which to bargain.
One watch would be more than enough.
This was frickin sweet! Thanks SR!
For me, it was the cash over the Rolex because you can split it, whereas the Rolex is a one time use item.
You ain't splitting shit to dodge the proverbial bullet, it's all or nothing. How much is your skin worth? Do you put a price on your life? I agree with that too, but I understood the critical thinking exercise to require you to spend it all, not divvy it up.
If you wear a Rolex in London, you become an instant mark. You'll lose it and maybe even a few pints of blood.
I wish a European would.
You have know idea what you do not know.
You're absolutely right. If your somewhere where these type of situations are possible - you want to go unnoticed as much as humanely possible and a big flashy Rolex marks you as a possible high value target or at the least you're liable to get mugged.
Yeah this is the dumbest stuff I've seen. All the 14yo COD players think it's pretty cool though.
That's not unique of london
In Yemen, I kept a riggers belt with a velcro concealed compartment that was very discrete. In it I kept several hundred dollar bills. It could have easily held some gold coins too. But cash would be better however to make it through airport security.
Great episode Shawn, I use this kind of exercise all the time in training / prep.... highly valuable and you presented it very well... nice work!

sure (so) glad our adversaries (china/north korea, ect) are not watching, noting and being "educated" by these YT open-source videos. maybe one "thinks" internet and YT is not available within foreign embassy's within the US?
the "team house" business format must (think) that "everyone" that watches is a "friendly". i get it if this was on a different web-platform. members provide ID (passport, DD214, etc) or some type of "vetting"/documents.
then again i am "older" than the FB, twitter, YT and Instagram "generation" where the only secrets are "held" by the few the run those organizations/businesses.
keep "yapping".. .
GOLD. It’s universal worldwide accepted as real money.
So are Rolex’.
You will get killed for gold. Carry one coin inside each sole of your shoe so it’s invisible. Silver bars can be subdivided with a knife. Carry cash in small amounts, and let it go right away.
In an emergency you are going to be constantly on the move, especially in the dark - towards a friendly border (salt water most preferably). Use your phone only at places where there are lots of other phones, or an enterprising enemy can put a bullseye on you
Gold is cheaper out side of the u.s,
Yeah but then you have to carry it. You already need a watch.
I agree with this and the Rolex comment but you could also be targeted for have that watch or gold where as crypto currency’s would be good in country that have phones and aren’t a tangible material so can’t be stolen and you won’t be targeted because of it. I feel like a rolex in a third world country would be a sign to a would be bad guy

“A trip to the airport”. Such prophetic words given the past few weeks in Afghanistan.
Getting out of Dodge:
Everywhere I worked I made friends with a local cab driver. Upon arrival I pretended I was a reporter or an anthropologist and hired the cabbie to give me a private tour of the area several times so I could get to know him.
I would eventually get him to invite me to his house under the pretense of wanting to know how "regular people" lived.
I bought presents for him and his family. A steam iron for mom; a soccer ball for the boy; dolls or age appropriate gifts for the girl. Always a bottle of fine whiskey for him... even in Muslim countries it's a prized possession.
Always a generous tip after tours and then you run the cabbie through a couple of tests to see if he'll help you out in a future pinch.
Even when I had to get a new "local" I always picked him out at the airport.
Not even my bosses knew of the contact.
The Algerians had a word for such folks: Musabelin.
And yes... the Rolex. Got out of jail with one... a long time ago... before Shawn was born.
Really cool story backing up great advice. Fascinating . Can you tell a little bit more about what you did?
I travel with a bunch of those cheap box flip top and Bic lighters as well as a bunch of those little booze bottles they serve you on the plane. They came in handy when our group got pulled over by one of those “middle of the night” police road block. Had six of those little bottles on me and a flip top light and a pack of camels 🐪. Chief who stopped me smiled and he and his boys looked liked they were going to have a good ole time as they waived us on. 😆 👍🏾.
Also had a local Cab driver in a Central America country quip why do all the USA 🇺🇸 make government workers smoke Marlboros and the female government workers smoke Newport’s ? 😂. He said when he and friends smell a Marlboro they go . . . Oh CIA or USA 🇺🇸 G.I. 😂
Gold coins will only get your ass kidnapped. If you have 7 you and your friends have 100
More. They mindset already is that Americans are flush with every Imperialistic riches. A good fake Rolex will only set you back $20 bucks.
One gold coin versus the silver bar. I could get transportation from one end of the country to the other with one coin. Bars will get your ass kidnapped and tortured. Bars are a pain in the ass to break down and generate a million questions down stream from your original transaction. 24 hours later two dozen dudes will be looking for the Marlboro smoking American who walks around with silver bars like he is the Lone Ranger.
Crypto all day long. Easy to verify and you can do a test amount.
Growing up I was taught to carry my actual spending money in my sock or make a pocket in the waist band but always made sure to carry 20 to 40 in my pocket or wallet just in case i got mugged. Things have been good and I've been blessed and i haven't had to do that for a long while but this country is going back to those days
NYC as a kid my mother made us carry a dummy wallet with five bucks in it and money in our socks to get home in case we were robbed.
If I were a parent today I’d probably have my kids carry an old broken cell phone for the same reason.
Same, except hidden pocket in my jacket

Ed would pick the gold.

He would choose a clandestine knife.
These videos are awesome. Please keep them coming. Personally, having only been thru the first few so far, I’d take the 7 gold coins over the rolex, the 1 gold coin over 7 silver bars and silver/gold over crypto. EDIT: Damn. 2 out of 3. I had considered that the 7 gold coins would be more of a hassle than a Rolex, but I was thinking you could start by offering 3 and then more if needed. Glad to say that’s the only one I would’ve gotten “wrong” though. Not everyone (especially in less developed countries) has a phone or knows what crypto is; and besides it’s not tangible which matters.
I followed along and opted to not go with the watch because it could draw unwanted attention in certain environments. I figure I could have tradeable concealed goods in the event that something happens but at least not have that tradable item the reason to get rolled in the first place. Other than that, agreed completely. Love your vids. Respect from Aus.
This was fun. Keep'em coming. Great to see from your perspective, given your real-world experience(s).

Loved this.
Your and my answers are logical. And logistical and efficient!
If this were adapted to a game show I’d watch religiously like a soccer mom at nap time!
I would carry the watch because it fastens to my body and is the “smallest”. Plus if I were the guy on the power end and the guy pulled out some silver coins... the first thing I would think is where is the gold at then, similarly if the guy pulled out seven gold coins I would think he has more and would press for the rest. The watch is like a period at the end of a sentence.
That is actually a very good fucking point lmao.
No it's not. They would just take any of those things. Carrying anything like this is stupid.
I may be biased... but in my experience, gold works miracles.

Yet very few know how to determine its authenticity or value.
Gold is more readily verified and easier to flip for cash by the recipient.
I honestly know nothing about watches. Lol
There are so many fake rolex watches i think most people would asume it is fake
Truth is, a smile and a soft voice, from a big dude like me gets me everywhere.
I do hvac/electric, so I can walk out a place with all the security codes, names of everyone who works there, copies of keys, chill in a secure area by myself, bring in any tool or weapon into any base/prison/corporation, shut down a breaker with the security cams on it, no body searches me, I can enter in with a ball cap and a face mask, and when I leave everyone has a smile on their face.
You 🎿 skooled me Vrother, thank you 🙏
I like how damn near no one answered the question. Gold, silver and Rolex
Rolex "hypothetically" I would think would get you out of a situation.
Gold, it's one item that has universal recognition of its value, particularly in backwater areas that may not be familiar with even the most recognizable brands. Not to mention, you've got 7 bribes instead of 1, if needed.
Thanks Shawn
When I don’t have any of this. Guess I’m screwed 🙈

Being able to portion the value is a definite plus! I’d want the gold.I do see your reasoning for the watch though!🔱🇨🇦👍🏻
I’d say Rolex, gold, silver, cash, Rolex ! I hope I’m never in a situation like that because I have neither of em!
Great lesson and good things to know! Thank you!!
If you really have to play dirty you can potentially claw back the Rolex by claiming theft later on and presenting the serial number. Gold/currency is almost entirely a bearer instrument while a watch is property. A watch is also a personal effect so it usually does not get caught up in customs unless the value is exceptionally high. Gold or silver or cash can often be subject to a customs process even if it's just paperwork/forms to sign, etc. In many places trying to convert a lot of U.S. currency or gold bullion can draw all of the wrong attention. It used to be standard practice for international news correspondents to wear a Rolex for the specific purpose of bribing and bartering.
If you choose the watch, I tied a bandana around my wrist over my watch on my last few trips to less than stable nations. You can use it to wipe sweat and it covers the watch so you don't draw unwanted attention.
Good idea
If you are American it’s doesn’t matter.
I think we even smell different to people in other countries. They can spot us a mile away. It’s how we walk and dress , we are instantly identifiable in most countries unless you know how they move and act and dress you will be immediately spotted
@@max420thc I agree you will likely be spotted as an American and will possibly be targeted depending on where you are and what you're doing. You may not be as enticing a target though as someone openly displaying a watch worth more than individuals in that country make in 10+ years.
I think Im gonna offer up my wife, she ought to be worth something.lol, rolex, silver, silver, cash, cash. Thanks Shawn.
Great scenario! I hope you do many more.
My only hesitation with the watch is potentially becoming a target for a mugger or a crime of opportunity. I’ve lived in some rough areas, so I have never worn any kind of jewelry or watches or really anything flashy because of it. I guess it’s scenario depend. On the other hand, my guess is that a CIA operative could use the social clout a fancy watch affords. Anyway…. definitely got me thinking. 👍
Awesome !
Dammit Shawn Rolex prices are high enough as is 😂
I'd take the gold coins. Might get you out of a couple of jams. Oh, and congratulations to you both on the pregnancy. You'll be great parents.
My rolex submariner was (still is ) a tool watch I wore in EOD for 23 years. Always assured me a ride home from anywhere in the world pretty much. Luckily I never had to use it to barter . Some GRS sorts working for the blue badges wore cheap Mickey Mouse or the 17 dollar MD-24 Casio watches when they were planing routes.
