- In the last video on the Summit carburetor tuning, we had a serious mishap! The flexible foam fender cover MELTED onto the driver's side header of the 292 Y Block. There was quite a bit of residue. Enter Rupes DA Coarse Polish, a microfibre towel, a 3M scratch pad, and some good old fashioned elbow grease. I could not believe the results!

Beautiful results for a beautiful motor👍
Thank you! I gotta check out that video you just posted on that 312 Crown Vic…
Beautiful restoration Reverend! Exciting content
😉
Impressive! Thought that may have ruined the coating. Great save!
When that happened last weekend my stomach rolled into knots and my face turned green! I am glad this worked.
@@HotRodReverend oh I bet! Already looking up where I can get some. May try it on a few things if it works that good on ceramic!
I bet this car will turn out as beautiful as your son has!
Kind words my friend - thank you.
Tanx, now I know I can go after the patina on my 20 year old ceramic headers. What trans do you have in there? I've had so many clutch bell cranks crack where the clutch arm attaches to the tube I bulk the welds before I install them even if not cracked. When a clutch needs adjusting sooner than normal go under and check that weld first.
The transmission is a BW259 with the R10 overdrive tail shaft
Those R10s were not built for yblock torque. Suggest finding a T85 OD to replace the R10 when, not if, it eats the planetaries. I run 4 T85 ODs with one in a performance 390 square bird and another behind a powerdyne super charged yblock with wide tires on a tight traclock. I check OD case oil 2X a year because I lost a planetary set in my 57 bird which requires pulling the engine. All parts are still available and they're easy to rebuild, well except the cluster gear set. Course spline clutch disks are very hard to find now. I have my disks relined for about same price as new. Save the 12v OD solonoid and governor.
Concerning the T85 R11, read this post on my website: www.hotrodreverend.com/post/where-in-the-world-is-the-hot-rod-reverend-part-1
I have a rebuilt unit and another used T85 R11 for parts if ever needed. I also have an NOS Hurst shifter kit for the T85 R11 (as you know, the brackets and rods have to clear the solenoid).
I plan to install the T85 when I build my 312 - hopefully by the end of the year. My block is ready to go and my rotating assembly is getting balanced.
@@HotRodReverend I read it, very impressed. Please pardon my assumptions, you've certainly got it covered... especially the helping folks aspect. I bought my first 57 Ford in 1968 with $25 summer hay baling money and still running old Fords. My daily driver for 12 years now is the 59 bird, the newest car I own. Sometimes I wonder if I'm defective but my wife considers it therapy for my extreme stress career. When I'm in my shop covered in grinder dust, old grease and all the hair burned off my fingers saving a lump of rust the bureaucrats faces I have to contend with just fade away. Currently I'm building a couple of prewar orphan cars, most fun builds I've ever had. We also live in a politically destroyed city but refuse to run.
Ive been dying for those valve covers for my 292 Y block, but theyre $400 per side. xD
I got mine second hand and restored them… paid 100 a side. Check my videos out - I go through the process. My website has a good write up with photos as well.
