I have watched countless videos on the Jessum Doweling system, however it was your video that made me decide to purchase one. I already have the Dowelmax which is an excellent system, but this Jessum seems to excel at certain doweling tasks like the one you just demonstrated. Thanks so much Earl for the great video, keep them coming!
Glad you liked it Grab. I used them extensively on the farmhouse dining table build this year for the angled braces. You just can't see them because my granddaughter wanted the base painted white. ua-cam.com/video/yvJ3gIGjcas/v-deo.html
Thanks! Very thoughtful and helpful. I liked that you used two dowels at every corner to hold the sides together before glue up, as well as the exposed dowels and oak slides.
Earl your work is second to none may God continue to bless you and your family outstanding job great attitude great idea. Bottom line praise be to him our Lord and savior
Earl, thank you for putting together this quality, informative video. Convinced me to pull the trigger on the JessEm jig and try out the exposed dowels - twice as fast that way! Cheers, Jeff - Houston, TX.
Thanks for the idea!! This was great. Thank you also for the video showing helpful details... clamp placement it something I'd learn through trial and error.
Thanks for the demo. This seems like the best alternative to a Domino joiner (and the cost 90% less). The artistic quality of exposed dowels is a plus for aesthetics. Was impressed with the quality of Jessem's metal, and I liked how you were able to clamp this thing with what I believe were five separate clamping devices! That's an impressive tool and likely well worth the extra price compared to the milescraft dowel jigs out there. Thanks again
Hi Earl I just got the one dowelling jig you have, it works beautiful but I just learned something from watching your video (drilling the tow pcs together) that makes the proccess a liltlle faster. Thank you Earl, and keep posting more videos. ...
WOW Earl, you really stepped up to the plate with that dowel jig. It does look like a very well made jig and was perfect for your project. That dresser came out looking very nice. Good job. Keep those videos coming!! Have a Merry Christmas with the family!!!
Thanks for posting the vid. I'm torn between the Jessem and DowelMax at the moment. Jessem is about £100 cheaper in UK. I want to buy once and not have to buy several types of jigs. Jessem doesn't seem to be so good on small stock (L joints) plus the DM has easier clamping. Would love to hear other views. ( I love the exposed dowels but it won't suit my needs.)
As we say in woodworking, you can never have too many clamps I like the idea of the open dowels especially is a wood workshop. I like to have through mortises also
Oh, and am getting a Jessem in metric when I visit Ireland next month. It is a secret between me and you, as I don't think the wife would understand. :) Love the idea you can leave it clamped and then set for second and third row,
Thanks! I have this jig, but the clamping was a problem. I was only using one clamp or two as I saw in the demo video for the product and things slipped, so I gave up on it. I'm going to try it again. It is extremely well made and a beautiful tool. Made in Canada, I think. Like the drawer slides, too.
i like the video and the idea. not sure I've seen this done before..5 dowels on each corner of the drawer. i especiallylike the revealed look. always been a fan of that.. seems like excessive clamping though? the jig looks pretty sturdy and not "top-heavy" like most of the others.. which to me means less wiggle and less clapping...regardless, GREAT WORK..THANKS FOR SHARING
THANK you for sharing your clamping/positioning technique, you your project. I like the way the exposed dowels look. I frequently only use three (or even 2) dowels , but i would use all 5 like you did for aesthetic reasons -- and support, but i am assuming your bottom panel provides a good bit of stabilization as well. Did you make the dowels yourself to get the color/contrast? I should just go look and see if you have a separate video on the other aspects of the drawers!
I've been waiting for 2 years for your review of the Dowelmax. Where did you go? I have watched all of your dowel jig videos several times. I like the ones you made the best!
I would love to use and review the Dowelmax! I'm sure it does somethings better than any other jig. Unfortunately, I just cannot justify the cost at this time. The Jessem and my homemade jigs have done everything I've needed and have all been a pleasure to use.
I've never used a domino so I don't know. I do know dowel jigs are cheaper than a domino. :) I have used a biscuit jointer...is a domino any easier to use than that and does it offer any more/less accuracy?
Dear Earl: Jessem is the one who made my router lift and I've been very happy with it! I'm sure that Jessem Jig you bought was worth it! Just curious where do you live? I'm in Tucson!
I have watched your video on the Jessem dowel jig a number of times. I am more impressed with the jig everytime I watch it. Are you still using it? If so, what new things have you learned and what are the negative things you have noticed. I am about to pull the trigger on it, but want to make sure I should go this way. There is no store in my area I could see the jig at. Would love to talk with you about it. Since there is not an email address for you, I hope you will respond this way.
James, I do still use it and am still very pleased with my purchase. My son-in-law has it at the moment to make shelf pin holes in some kitchen cabinets he is making. I haven't found anything negative at all. I also purchased it sight unseen - directly from Jessem.
I know this is an old video. And I believe you have the dowel max now. Which one do you like better? It seems that the jessum has slightly better functionality.
Nicely done. I'v been looking at the Jessem Jig and planning diy cabnets to improve our house also. Do you think this jig would work as well with 1/2" plywood drawers?
Hey Earl, Just wondering if you know if this jig is capable of placing dowels to fit corners angled at 45 degrees ... like the dowelmax? Thanks and great job on the dresser.
HI Seth. I am not aware of an adaptor for the Jessem jig that adds a 45-degree feature like the Dowel Max. If you're joining boards/pieces cut at a 45-degree miter you can clamp it to the end just as you would a but joint. If your pieces are mitered along the length I cannot think of a way to make it work. I haven't needed to do this so I haven't thought too much about it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi Seth. Here's a video Dik Harrison who has adapted the Jessem 8003 for 45 degree miters: ua-cam.com/video/v-u4bQRn2yw/v-deo.html. Something similar might work on the 8350 model.
What grade of plywood did u use? I also own the Jessem dowel jig, ⅜ only, I’m going to buy the another 2 sizes. I was trying to justify buying the Domino for my DIY shop but it’s too expensive.

the exposed dowel look is really nice - thanks
Earl
Thank you.
Finally someone posts a video on thru/exposed dowel joints.
Please do more videos/projects with thru/exposed dowel joints.
Thanks again.

I guess an old dog CAN learn new tricks. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks! Very thoughtful and helpful. I liked that you used two dowels at every corner to hold the sides together before glue up, as well as the exposed dowels and oak slides.
Thanks Earl. I have had the Jessem system for several years and enjoy finding new ways to use it efficiently.
Earl your work is second to none may God continue to bless you and your family outstanding job great attitude great idea. Bottom line praise be to him our Lord and savior
Ended up purchasing one, use it on carcass and drawer. Simple, fast, reliable after hundreds, maybe thousands of holes. Good stuff.
You work very methodically and mindfully - my favourite parts of woodworking.
Earl, thank you for putting together this quality, informative video. Convinced me to pull the trigger on the JessEm jig and try out the exposed dowels - twice as fast that way! Cheers, Jeff - Houston, TX.
Jeffrey, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
The exposed dowels is a beautiful finish!
Hank Hill lives!! (if you’ve watched the show you know its a compliment)
I recently purchased the same jig, l am very impressed with it. The accuracy is very impressive.
Thanks for the idea!! This was great. Thank you also for the video showing helpful details... clamp placement it something I'd learn through trial and error.

Thanks for watching! I only wish I had started using dowels years ago.
Thanks for posting this. Very helpful.
Thank you Sir. I learned from you. E. Ramirez Tabasco-Mexico
Great cabinet for closet organization. Hope you and your family enjoy the holidays.
Thanks for watching! WoodRodent, I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season also.
Very nice work sir!
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant video, I'm gonna use this to pin my rabbeted drawer boxes. Thanks for sharing!
Earl, just a hint here.....glue and brad nail the drawer together first. Once it dries then drill the dowels, add glue and drive them home.
Stay awesome Earl.
Great Video, I got one for Christmas!!!
Very nice build!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Great video. Looking at dowel jigs
Thanks! I have this jig, but the clamping was a problem. I was only using one clamp or two as I saw in the demo video for the product and things slipped, so I gave up on it. Don't give up on this jig. I think it's the most accurate tool in my shop.
Thanks, Earl. I just pulled it out and will try it again when I make something where I can use it.
Moarrrr clamps!
Good project. Nice demonstration of the jig. It is a bit pricey though
Thanks Earl!
i like the video and the idea. not sure I've seen this done before..5 dowels on each corner of the drawer. i especiallylike the revealed look. always been a fan of that.. seems like excessive clamping though? the jig looks pretty sturdy and not "top-heavy" like most of the others.. which to me means less wiggle and less clapping...regardless, GREAT WORK..THANKS FOR SHARING
Thanks Sal. I like the look also. Excessive clamping? Maybe...but nothing slipped. :) Thanks for watching and for the comment.

mind opener, drilling one hole and use dowels exposed.
Thanks ab.

I'm in Georgia, USA

Earl, great to see this technique. Where do you get your dowels? Are these fluted?
I ordered them from store.cincinnatidowel.com/. Yes they are fluted. Thanks for watching.
Nicely done. I'v been looking at the Jessem Jig and planning diy cabnets to improve our house also. Do you think this jig would work as well with 1/2" plywood drawers?
Sure...just use 1/4" dowels. Thanks for watching.
Not sure if I heard it or not...did you stain the dowels after you installed them?
Hey Earl, Just wondering if you know if this jig is capable of placing dowels to fit corners angled at 45 degrees ... like the dowelmax? Thanks and great job on the dresser.

Hi Earl, gray video, thanks for sharing. In your experience which would be better and more flexible between Jessem and Dowelmax?
*great! Sorry this auto-correct feature change some words.
I am so sure that you will find good way to make it on woodprix.
5 clamps. Nah. I'll just get a Dowelmax
DO NOT buy this product. the center line on the jig is not in the center of the jig!!!!
You do not need this expensive jig for what you are doing.
What grade of plywood did u use? I also own the Jessem dowel jig, ⅜ only, I’m going to buy the another 2 sizes. I was trying to justify buying the Domino for my DIY shop but it’s too expensive.
