    Thank you for making this video, I just cracked the harmonic balancer on my daughters 93 DeVille because there was not enough clearance and I reefed on it with the puller and an impact. It was hitting the frame.. .duh. Now I will drop the subframe. Thanks again... very helpful.

    5:28 is totally normal, that little nub on the cam sprocket is a spring-loaded thrust button to keep the roller cam from walking back and forth and shredding the valvetrain. This video was super helpful! I found that the job is easiest when your motor mounts have collapsed LOL

      I second that it’s not gonna rub thru as long as you keep oil in it

    I actually also did the same myself a while ago on a Cadillac Allante. Both the Allante 4.1L and 4.5L engines are exactly the same. I found when replacing the water pump to just remove the entire cover plate and replace all the seals at once since they were all still original in my case. Doing the water pump replacement on the Northstar 4.6L is much easier to do and access. But good video man!

      Any tips? Sorry this is 5 years later lol but debating on doing this myself on my 90' Allante. Leaking oil from the timing cover and I figure I might as well do the water pump too. Did you drop the subframe as well?

    I was pumped to do my timing chain until i saw this video...people say its just as easy doing the water pump but on a 1994 4.9L all you have to do is remove the battery and coolant reservoir to have enough room to remove the water pump....too bad I order the parts before the video.

    I’m glad I’m not doing all that not today not this time I’ve actually did that on this car maybe 40,000 miles ago with the water pump so I’m gonna have a little confidence in my work and the water pump is so trashd the pulley and the belt were rubbing into the housing sounded identical to a rod knock/ bad engine .
    I will never do reman again so long asbi can help it

    Faak that’s such a devastating blow that w/p is a mfer but the inlet crossover hose chain cover and water pump all at once is ridiculous ive done it countless times even fixed a few covers for friends thst broke the studs trying to be a handyman

    It’s about a seven hour job and by the time I’m done with that my back is burning on fire. I know that much.

    I think the previous repair loosened the wrong bolts and pulled on it thus breaking the factory seal if you do all that please please please for the love of god change the 3/4 coolant hose on the other side of the inlet or it will fail and do your front main seal but you can always do that later using a screw and a hanmer

    And did you put rtv in the place where the timing cover meets the oil pan?

    • @ykmalachi
      @ykmalachi  7 років тому

      Chris Akins yes I did.
      I likely supported engine at the oil pan

    Hello!
    I need to change rear exhaust manifold on 1991 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. Can you please share information - how to take exhaust manifold - lowering engine or taking down frame? I worry about this job.

    • @ykmalachi
      @ykmalachi  7 років тому

      sadly I've never done one before so can not offer you help
      you will likely be doing much if the work from above reaching over the motor without much ability to see what your doing

    • @ykmalachi
      @ykmalachi  6 років тому

      MisterKenwy I have never done the exhaust manifolds on those but dropping the subframe seems logical

    was it easier to install as one piece. that meaning timing cover and water pump already together?

    • @ykmalachi
      @ykmalachi  7 років тому

      Yes sir. I'd never do it the other way again.

    • @donovanbutler4943

      So you install the gasket to the timing cover first or to the block? And is permatex high tack good fir this?

    how did you remove and install the timing cover seal?

    • @ykmalachi

      I have a set of seal drivers. Cheap ones from Harbor Freight work fine. Just soft aluminum.

      what a pain, mines at 220+. I might as well just do a rebuilt or send it to a machine shop. Timing is jumping around at idle =/
