  • The two sites of metabolism are the mitochondria and the cytoplasm;
    Mitochondria is responsible for: beta-oxidation, acetyl-CoA production, TCA cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, ketogenesis
    The Cytoplasm is responsible for: glycolysis, HMP shunt (PPP), synthesis of cholesterol, proteins, fatty acids and nucleotides.
    Both are used in: heme production, urea cycle, and gluconeogenesis
    Enzyme terminology (video will give definitions):
    kinase, phosphorylase, phosphatase, dehydrogenase, hydroxylase, carboxylase, mutase, and synthase/synthetase.
