- Please join me in this beginner level step by step acrylic paint tutorial of my "Tropical Sunset" design. I will walk you through each step along the way in real time as I teach you how to mix all of your own colors using only the 3 basic primaries plus black and white.

Primary or Brilliant Blue
Quinacridone Magenta
Cadmium Yellow (medium hue)
White
Black
☆ BRUSHES ☆
I'm using Qualita Gold Taklon brand brushes from www.jerrysartarama.com. You can get some really great deals from Jerry's Artarama or Dick Blick Art.
You don't have to get these exact brushes. These are just what I use.
Any brand will do fine. ;)
1" Flat Wash
5/8" Angular (medium brush)
#8 Filbert .
#2 Round (any teeny or liner brush)
Always save your old beat up brushes to use for texture ;)

Where do you buy your backing felt boards for the back of your canvas paintings to be a nice clean dust cover of back of paintings?
I don't use those.

I just finished this painting. I have never painting anything before. The hardest thing for me were the clouds. I had a mess. Luckily with this type of paint there are do overs. I worked on it a little at a time over a few days. I must say that using the paper you're using for the paint is a must. Plate didn't work for me at all. And that got frustrating. The waxed paper made the world of difference. I'm not trying another painting without it. Over all, I think my painting turned out pretty good. My husband was impressed. I must say though, the music is so nice I didn't want to pause the video to catch up at times. Very nicely done. Thank you.

I get so many comments on my music selection. Some say they love it but more say they hate it!! Lol move been debating back and forth as to whether or not I should cut it out or not.

This was my third tutorial I have done of yours, and I'm not sure why, but I struggled with this one, especially the clouds. I had to paint over them twice. I need to practice on another canvas or paper and decide if I should add them back in or not. I used to live in Hawaii and my husband used to climb out to this one rock all the time, so our family deemed it our rock. I painted the exact shape of that rock next to the sun and I love it. Now all I need is a personal lesson on painting clouds! ;)

Hi auntie ,u have put in all your efforts but I have some queries:-
I think that the tree should be smaller and lower to the cloud.
The colour used in the sky are a bit lighter and darker in the water.

I love all of your paintings Debbie. I especially like the ones that don’t use a blue and the yellow because it seems like I have the hardest time with those and then went to pate pile of green sludge
Just remember that the blue goes a long way!! Always start with the tiniest bit and add very gradually. ;)

Vicky Smr Oh wow, this makes me so happy to hear. Thank you for your support Vicky and never be afraid of painting. Remember it’s just paint and it can be painted over again and again. And you can fix mistakes very easily with acrylics. I have a quick 2 minute tip on that in my video feed.

Just tuned in to your videos and I LOVE them. The way you blend the primary colors to get all the others for tropical scenes its wonderful. A sign of a true artist. I buy too many different colors that are really not necessary. I need to graduate into using the primaries for paintings. Many thanks.

So pretty! Do you ever used premixed paint colors, or do you always create your own? I'm new to painting and I bought tons of colors, but most tutorials I see online use only a few basic colors and the artist will mix to achieve a different color.
Karen Cutler when I’m doing my own personal painting I will use a variety of different colors. For my tutorials I always stick with the primary colors because it’s so important for beginner painters to learn how to mix all of their own colors so they will eventually be able to tweak any color to get their perfect shade.
