  • This is by no means a legitimate way to do this. But, it is a way to do it.
    Ideally your generator has circuit breakers on-board so, you don’t have to worry too much about short circuiting. But there are more legit ways of accomplishing this task. I am not legit.
    The generator I am using.

    Im alittle confused because you would think the 240 would damage the 110 appliances. Im looking to do this and had the same thought process as u with the bigger wire and more power but Im worried about it over powering stuff. If you can, please explain. Thanks

      The 240 is just supplying the power to the breaker input. It is still regulated by the breakers.

      240v powers, both l1 and l2 of the panel. In a split phase configuration. Therefore powering both 120. And 240v volts to the panel.

      240 is simply 120 going to one side and 120 to the other side at no point on a 240 appliance will a voltmeter read 240. Your single pole breaker only gets 120volts. A double pole breaker gets 120 on each side. It’s a separate source for each side. A 240 dryer will get 120volts to the motor, and a separate 120volts for the heating element.

    It really shouldn't need to be said but I'll say it anyways. Do not under any circumstances handle these connections while the generator is running and tripple check that there is no power coming into the house. If... you were to do this, Plug in all your cables while all the power is turned off everywhere. I repeat do not handle live wires.

    Will you be able to run your house ac ? Hypothetically

    • @gridbasedotnet
      @gridbasedotnet  Рік тому

      Yes. On assuming your generator is powerful enough to handle the amount of energy your AC unit requires, you can absolutely run your AC.
      HOWEVER, if for some reason your AC unit is on a separate breaker box it wouldn’t work.
      But, typically it’s all on the same breaker box.

      If it's on the same panel, and if you're gen. Is strong enough. Yes it would.

    Im sorry bro, im confused.
    So you ran a 220 drop through your dryer vent and plugged into into the 220 outlet from your genny left the main breaker of and selectively turned on/off all your other breakers? And the cord you stripped wasnt actually your dryer cord but your drop.......hypothetically of course. Like if I was living in an undisclosed non usa country.
    Im I understanding this educational purposes only HYPOTHETICAL situation or not in the slightest. Lol
