I had no idea about your sodium intake affecting the swelling.Your videos are super helpful and I'm so thankful you've upload these ! I'm going to look back on these whenever I have top surgery ☺️
celeste: the other snack that i ate a lot... [reaches for the box of straws] me: ???????????????????*???????????????????????????????????????????* (in all seriousness though i'm getting top surgery at the beginning of july and i'm just... bingewatching all the "how to have top surgery and then not immediately keel over" videos i can get my little gay hands on so thank you for this!)
Thank you so much for your videos. I am going to stay in an airbnb with my FTM son (I'm probably saying that all kinds of wrong - but I'm old, so forgive me....) for about a week after his top surgery in about three weeks. Your video has helped me know what to expect and what we will need. Thank you!
On the topic of arnica: I took it for the first week or so but my mum’s a pharmacist and decided I should stop it. I didn’t notice any difference when I went off it, but I do wonder if I’d be healing any differently if I did take it. These videos are actually super helpful for people about to get top surgery, this is a really good idea!
I think I only took it for a week too. Maybe I took a few doses after I got home but not for long if so. And thank you! I tried to remember as much as I could about what I wanted to know before I had surgery!
Depends on if you believe in homeopathy, if it would have affected your healing, since they don’t actually have active ingredients and work by placebo. I was kinda disappointed my surgeon gave me arnica pellets & I only took it for 2 days before deciding it was ridiculous.
Ill be getting top surgery next month! Im so excited but also nervous cause you never know whats gunna happen. I love seeing and watching these videos, it help calm me. Plus helps me with some amazing advice and tips.
I'm having top surgery in a week and stumbled upon your videos, thank you this is very helpful! I'm also vegan so the food tips were very helpful and had no idea about the sodium.
I'm scheduled for top surgery in essentially 6 days, I'm both nervous but super excited! I've been avoiding videos that are kind of guides for the "Dos and don'ts" post top surgery for the longest time because they've made me feel quite gender dysphoric. However now with surgery being just a day shy of a week away I figured it's time to do a lot of catching up and take notes! Your videos on this have been very informative! I've for sure had a few "Ooohh I see, that's smart" moments watching them and jotted it down in notepad. Thank you for making these videos! 💕
I'm assuming the first night is different for everyone? One person I watched said they felt they were gonna pass out/black out. Which is something I am worried about aside from going to have to deal with the pain. I'm gonna be getting a double incision near the end of this month. I really appreciate videos like this. It helps me understand all the post stuff a bit better.
Bloody brilliant, so much information. Thank-you mine is 3 days away and I can't wait. I will be awake for the surgery, I have too many health issues. But again this was a great video. Cheers
I realize these videos are from a while ago but I’m in the process of getting my consult and surgery scheduled and these are super helpful! Thanks so much
@@CelesteM Am thinking about doing this as, when and if I have the surgery(ies). Got 240lts worth of freezer space so plenty of room for a months worth of soups. Just need to go out and buy a months worth of boxes, lol. It would probably take me about a week or two to make a months worth of soup.
These videos were super helpful!! I’m planning to have too surgery soon, so I’m super happy you made these. Hopefully I’ll be more prepared for recovery now!
Thank you so much for both of these videos, Celeste! Super helpful as I am finally getting my top surgery (if everything goes well...) this summer and I still cannot fully believe it :)
Do you have a video on how to have a succesful consult/how yours went? My doctor is starting to write the letter for my top surgery soon and I'm so excited!! I am about 6 and a half months on T (will be officially the 27th)
Ah, congrats on things moving along! I do have a video talking about my consult - ua-cam.com/video/_t3FouBozXU/v-deo.html Also, Ash Hardell has a video where they recorded their consult with Dr. Garramone so that might be helpful for you as well!
I think with arnica, you’re not supposed to drink caffeine! Keep that in mind, y’all. I read that somewhere so I’m not bothering to take it before my surgery next month. I’m already quitting nicotine- I can’t also quit caffeine 😂
I’m having surgery in like 2 days and my biggest fear is any type of adhesive removal because I’m hairy af. I bought those gauze pads with adhesive attached and now I’m stressed 😩😂
You can always cut the adhesive part off of them and use a more gentle paper tape instead and see if that works better! That's what I ended up doing later on sometimes.
ive been wondering, for people who have to travel to get the surgery how long do you stay at the hotel/rb&b? all the good surgeons seem to be a couple hours flight away. do you have to stay till you get your drains/ bandages off? or longer even?
Yeah, it's a little counterintuitive. ACE bandages compress the tissue. After surgery, that's what you want, to reduce swelling. It's a little different from wrapping healthy tissue tightly enough to compress it flat, which is what you're doing when binding. Basically, after surgery the compression is to keep the tissue from getting bigger, whereas before that it would be to make the tissue smaller.
My top surgery is on Friday I'm so nervous because I dont like the high feeling 🙃 I know its different for everyone but I can't even take Tylenol without feeling high and weirded out 🤣🤣
Being prepared with the practical, post op stuff helped me a lot! And watching/reading lots of people's experiences so I felt like I knew what possibilities to expect.
This was super helpful especially because I’m vegan as well. Thank you! The only thing I’d add is to purchase stainless steel straws instead of plastic because it’s environmentally friendly and you can reuse it. (Considering you’ve had that bag of straws for years, I’m not saying you did anything wrong. I just mean for other people who are going to purchase straws.) Edit: Another thing I’d add would be to consider turmeric capsules (find one that includes black pepper and consume with a healthy fat containing food) as long as it’s approved by the surgeon. I’ve seen studies of it being incredible for anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant purposes.
I was very surprised that i didnt have any ace bandage or any other covering/binder when i woke up. Im 4 days out of surgery and i just have the tape. I found this odd.
@@CelesteM Im not sure what is considered much. 😞My nurse says it looks good, I feel like the middle of my chest is quite swollen. 1st post op is tomorrow. We shall see what happens.!
@@CelesteM So far so good! Drains are out thank goodness. Now watching grafts hoping they take well. And happy to report my mom went to this appt with me & is trying her best! Thanks for checking in, means a lot btw!
I am a caregiver for my brother who Litteraly just had this surgery today. He also has the same exact drains, and to empty them we were told to use our hands and just kind of strip the tubes of the discharge. My hands burn like hell now lol. Do you have any advice on what I could do? Is there another way we could empty the drain tubes? Does wearing gloves help limit the friction on your hands? Any advice would be awesome!
Probably! You may find that you're able to eat normally after a day or so, but anesthesia and pain meds can make you nauseated at first so it wouldn't hurt to eat things easy on your stomach.
To the person talking in the video are you male or female Seems like gender surgery is all you hear people talk about on youtube. I hope you don't regret this later on.
1. I'm neither. 2. UA-cam suggests videos based on your viewing history so if you're getting a lot of trans content, you're probably watching a lot of trans content. If it troubles you, stop clicking on it and you won't see it so much. 3. It's been 7 years so far and I've never regretted it for even the tiniest fraction of a second, so I think I'm good 😊

This is awesome. You just made the best videos ever for prepping top surgery. You should give yourself a biig hug :)
Regarding soups: why not just make your own? Let it cool down, store in lock and lock containers and freeze it in the freezer?
You could, if you have the ability to do so!

Yes, that's what I did - it was about a week. Some surgeons do things differently though so it will vary some.
I've always wondered why it's okay to use ace bandages after top surgery, but not to bind

Hi! You mentioned how long the ace bandage was (15 ft) but I'm wondering what the width is... looks like 6 to 9 inches.
Yes, I should have mentioned that! It's 6".

I’m glad you’re getting surgery! How’s your recovery going?
May I ask one other question? That being how do you prepare yourself mentality for the surgery?

Thanks, that's a good tip! I normally use polycarbonate straws at home but yeah I already had these.
Comrade 269 the metal straws were prob the best purchase i made for surgery!

Can you apply neosporin on the scar from side to side?
I was very surprised that i didnt have any ace bandage or any other covering/binder when i woke up. Im 4 days out of surgery and i just have the tape. I found this odd.

My mom did all the actual stripping so I'm not sure, but you could try it! Another thing that could help would be to use an alcohol wipe.
Would the Bratz diet (something for being sick) and then some be a good diet to have for after surgery?
