You haven’t got a clue you would normally do two coats flat then do your textured coat to match he’s done it in one coat then he’s textured it with the same muck. most of his videos are snc rendering , he’s been a content creator on UA-cam for well over 12 years the man’s a legend he’s probably forgotten more than we know 👍🏻
Quick question Sam? Bought a lower flat 100 year old. Got in had damp in various positions, got hands dirty, cleared out chimney, walls and removed soot, etc. Absolutely bags and bags full. Walls are brick but have a timber frame and floors are all concreted. I've noticed on inner wall painting flaking and bubbles. Rising damp is known in area. I've been talking to a lime plasterer and he says it's only solution, he said dry rods will fail. Is he right? Is it worth dry rodding walls first or do you think he's pushing his method fir business?
Dry rods won’t fail installed correctly your line guy it talking rubbish. What I will say is be certain it is rising damp, you would get more than flakey paint if it’s ground salts
I asked him if his method is correct and lime plastering breaths and dries out, why not dry rod walls also and stop the damp even getting into the plaster. All he would say is they'll fail. He's charging £4500 for downstairs alone. Apparently a stream runs underneath the street I live and my internal wall seems to be the problem. I can't think of anything else rather than rising damp. I'm gonna dryrod it anyway.
Kirk’s actually a decent plasterer. That trowel is a swim pool trowel, can’t get the one he uses in England, it’s got straight ends that curve into the main straight of the trowel. Almost looks like a flexi trowel. Also bear in mind that most houses in America have a texture on them, so he was matching into the skip trowel finish, same way we’d match into a stipple or swirl artex pattern for example. This was a bad video to say it’s a one coater, as he must have known he’d have to mix up some wet gear at the end to add the texture. Anyhow check out his other work and I’m sure you’ll see he’s good
@@Spreadley he’s not using a swimming pool trowel, he’s using a ‘swim pool’ trowel. Swimming pool trowels have a completely round top and bottom, his isn’t, the top is straight and slightly rounds into the long bit. He’s explained and shown that in videos before

He has a terrible finish on nearly everything he does he’s an expert on materials and talking a good one, he overtalks everything way too much too the point of being smarmy and catches himself out, great entertainment though that’s what UA-cam’s about ?
