He wasn't a gangsta. Yall need to stop😆. Was he hood? Yea. Does that mean he was a gangsta... NOPE. Knowing gangstas and having the money and fame for them to do shit and fuckwitu don't make you a gangsta.
Hammer wasn't a fool he knew to equip his hood as personal defense from the other artists who criticized his movement. In the current 'rap' landscape MC Hammer would thrive without a word of contempt from anyone ! Not sure what that says about the culture nowadays.
Hammer is 100% a guy you want as a friend...he seems to be a guy who could teach you EVERYTHING of how things work and why so you could know who is who and what is what while winning at the same time....Hammer was the Deion Sanders of hip-hop and Deion Sanders was the Hammer of sports.
It's amazing how time and distance seems to allow history to rewrite itself. Hammer and a group called PM Dawn came out around the same time. Their sounds weren't like what was going on in rap music of the day..Hammer style of dancing along with light catchy grooves and simplistic lyrics as well as his seemingly wholesome image helped him crossover to areas that artist of the day couldn't do. He helped take rap to a higher level commercially.. Hammer wasn't accepted by mostly east coast traditional rappers because of his sound and look and message. If it wasn't for MC Hammer rap wouldn't be where it's at today.
This story definitely needed to be told. He had Taylor Swift type popularity back then! He was selling out everywhere. Another thing too - His name should ALWAYS be added to the MJ Usher Breezy Omarion dance convo bc Hammer had it! Rap was just going in another direction so we only had Hammer for a short time. No one hit wonder though. Hammer! Don’t hurt ‘em! Those were the good ole days.

Couldnt agree more when he said "rap is not entertaining". I like hip hop but Ive never had the desire to go to a live show. Especially today where its just a million namesless faceless dudes holding towels saying "yeah" "what" or "ugh". Hammer might be seen as cringey today but you cant deny the guy had a vision, worked hard to make it happen and succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Too bad money went to his head and he burned through it like shitroll. I still enjoy that Pray song tho. Shits funky as hell. Hip hop used to be fun. I miss that. Its been dead for a while.
true to himself and true to those around him...qualities we should all aspire to emulate...even as child he let nothing stop him from achieving what he wanted to accomplish...i'd like to see a real in depth documentary of his life and accomplishments...it would serve as a great "how to" guide for others who need some lessons on how to accomplish greatness under any circumstance...good on you Hammer

Because he had a crew that would fight on his behalf & he put people n their place for trying him, that's why the neighborhood
respect him? Not the positive music & efforts? U & whoever think like that have 2 b some of the most ignorant, downplaying, stuck on stupid, may never get it a#$ people ever, IF this is really how u all thought & think. Some ol crab n the bucket type
A#$ people.
I'm from NYC and was highly offended when "Turn this Mutha Out" video debuted on Video Music Box, but then Hammer grew on me lol. Out of all my friends back then I was the only who tape recorded his music and eventually buying his tapes lol. He sampled Prince and Rick James. He was on Arsenio Hall with like 100 plus people on stage dancing...not fighting, dancing. He was alright with me ❤

Dude from Syracuse snatched his chain after he performed, his mob almost beat son to death they fucked him up so bad he got a million out the deal
he had more money than the city of Syracuse after that ass beating
Hammer was a man of integrity and Faith. Rappers today need to be like a real man who cared for his people.
Hammer may have been a dancer and wore shiny, flashy outfits, but I wouldn’t make the foolish mistake to get on his bad side! He was most definitely a pure entertainer who put on a captivating, high energy performance, but he had that thug, that dog in him. MC Hammer was official, and everyone new about it. That man had some kind of stamina, too! MC Hammer is legendary on the stage and in the streets. Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em! 🫡
Salute to mc Hammer salute 🫡 to that brother ✌🏾
Didn't know that the Hammer was so hard. But the greatest Dancer in Rap History get my respect. He confounded DeathRow Records.❤❤❤❤
He had nothing to do with founding DeathRow Records
This is why I be on Instagram showing mad love and respect to Hammer. I got no problems with you Hammer! Please 🙏🏾 don’t hurt me 😁😁😁
WHOA !😳 MC HAMMER ain’t no joke
The best concert I ever been to was hammers back in 92 he brought all the kids on stage to dance and he even took a girl on tour with him from the concert
I went to the concert in 92 also in my city! TLC, boys2men, and jodeci ❤❤❤ I was 15 😅
@@cristacp2577 that’s the exact same one, they were all amazing!
i went to that tour- i was 16 in allentown pa- hammer, boyz II men, Tlc and his set was def off the chain
That was a good watch. This channel will grow big if it keeps going in the direction it is. Well put, informative and entertaining
Hey, Hammer has always been one of my favorites! Great music and performer! One of the absolute best!!!
I saw Hammer in Germany Düsseldorf,i think 91. Very good show. The man reacts and answers on insta. Cool dude. Good man.
I was born in 85 so i remember when hammer come out with "cant touch this" i never new he was a G tbh, crazy
This is old news for me. I learned long ago about Hammer. Guess to show you don't have to be a super gangsta to get respect
Facts
Or, it shows you that real gangsters dont chase clout or rap about their gangsterism. They show you in a real way when necessary
@@manman3792 I LOVE the stories of Hammer checking other rappers ( especially Ice-Cube ) Red-Man kept it real and tells the story of his encounter with Hammer on camera, something Ice Cube would never, ever admit to. His big, male ego and his tough-guy image won't let him.
Well if you thought that, I’m glad you know now. Because that’s why all this killing going on now, because our people feel like they gotta be gangster to get respect
@@Chalando.9431 Going to college, some kind of tech school or military is where you get-SELF-RESPECT. I joined the navy at 18 yrs old to get my family outta a very bad housing project in Philly. I used my signing bonus to get my mother and 5 sisters into a better neighborhood, when certain homies tried to join the military ( my mother told me this after I left for boot camp ) they weren't accepted because of felonies on their record.
I didn't know he was gangsta until his 2nd album. I was a kid at the time but my parents had the cassette. The way he was dressed on the album told me everything I needed to know. He was dressed so gangsta on the Album Artwork. My favorite song and the only one I remember from the album is "It's all good"...
That's his fourth album...
@@pointsur67 😄👍🏿
@@pointsur67 my bad. I wasn't much of a fan so I never knew. Thanks for the correction. Now I gotta go listen to them all..
Hhhmmmmm
...
Hammer was like "And I took it personal 😂"
Hammer is Like Ricky Tan and Jackie Chan didn’t tell Chris Tucker that he rolled like that lol
MC a Legend salute 👑…Jersey
TRUE TRUE LEGEND MC HAMMER
Man I didn’t know Hammer was a veteran 🙏🤘I love how they have an interview as some ballerinas are stretching and not even mention it 😂
This is a great documentary and the footage is well put together. On 10:02 of the video, is the girl behind MC J-Lo?
Looks like it her a lot 🤔
Yeah that was her she once said in a interview she started as a dancer for hammer and then a fly girl for in living color
MC Hammer was more Gangster than 90's gangster artist at the time. ESO business 💪✊
PM DAWN WERE AHEAD OF THEIR TIME
Loved Hammer but LOVED me some PM Dawn
I remember the album titled Please "Hammer" Don't Hurt Em but now I'm thinking they meant it in another way. 👊🏾
The lyrics "Hammer don't hurt em"weren't just for rapping
Hammer an Oakland brotha, you try selling 40 million records where he from. The man with the baggy pants demands respect.
Hammer Came From Dat Environment But yet & still overcame it all #HammerTime 💔
Stand together my people!
😐🤔 How does someone have the mindset of someone that was born & began a career AFTER them??
@alfreddavisjr6205 where has mindset got to do with anything they said? Or did you missread and misunderstand the comment?
@@RickyT15 thank you👈🙌
Wtf you mention Taylor swift
@@melishamaraj9668 ask your mother
I saw MC Hammer at an Oakland A's game when i was little. He said "hello young fella," smiled, then pointed finger guns at me 👉 👉. I thought he was playing around.
Great video learned ALOT but what stuck out to me the most was the end. Cause that's my story too. The ppl u love the most n give the most n who u NEVER let down will be the ones who wont be there for you when u need them.
Please Hammer, Don't hurt him. Hits you different
I love him his music was fun and to see him dance was a joy fun fun 🤩
RIP Barefoot Pookie. I never heard this story. Good one! I am from LA had met a few cats from the bay from while in the military. I already know Oakland cats about it.
Good video! Many details of his story i was ignorant of, thanks for the enlightenment.
Now this is interesting asf
I listened to Hammers music back in the day. I remember he had everyone from his neighborhood on the payroll.
Hammer has a song called Pray , we used to Rick out to that and two lagit
Always been a fan of MC Hammer.
This is the documentary I was waiting for. Hammer, don’t hurt em!
That’s who Puff got his formula from for selling records.
Puff got that formula from an old white dude.right between the cheeks.so says the interwebs
And was the "president" of a baseball team. This mans story.
To me MC Hammer is a real man because he took so many people from his neighborhood and gave them jobs so they wouldn't be fighting or killing each other in the street and ask yourself how many people would have done that for the community. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
There’s a difference between running around bragging bout how G you are and people jsut knowing. I coulda gone my whole life not knowing Hammer was G compared to your modern day rapper that go out their way to prove how G they are but don’t even come close!!
Man I felt that when Redman said “We was almost boxed in!!”.😂
I remember when going to his house in the bay and had a foreclosure / bankruptcy sign on it ! Cool House had Hammer Time on the gate!
I lived in the caso camino housing area when i was little that was on the opposite hill from that big ass white house he had and lost, i remember being like 6 and looking across the valley from hill to hill and thinking how big that mansion was and how MC Hammer lived there. Such a trip.
Yeaahh MC Hammer !!! Crazy how they want to put everything in a category nowadays are you hip hop are you not? I remember he was just cool 😎
Brings a new meaning to his song "can't touch this"
The person impersonating Hammer in the Ice Cube video is Red from Friday 💯
Im surprised they never made a major release MC Hammer movie with Nick Cannon starring, I think that's the role he was meant to play.
Definitely could see him playing the role.
Alot of people don't no the Bay Area is a monsta with out crips and bloods
My boxing coach in Oakland ran with hammer back in the day and he has some stories of running with hammer
Hammer can dance his tale off I remember when he and Mike had a dance contest love my childhood🥰
Is that Jenny from the block at 9:41
The one on the right does look like her.
Yes it's her
true to himself and true to those around him...qualities we should all aspire to emulate...even as child he let nothing stop him from achieving what he wanted to accomplish...i'd like to see a real in depth documentary of his life and accomplishments...it would serve as a great "how to" guide for others who need some lessons on how to accomplish greatness under any circumstance...good on you Hammer
Is that JLO at the 9:46 mark. The dancer on the right? 😮
that’s her!
Hammer will forever be a vibe.
Was that Jennifer Lopez stretching as a dancer at 10:00?
Really looks like her though... Good catch. 😉
Yeah.
Yep she used to dance for hammer
I believe so. She was a dancer back in the day & she was also in In Living Colors as well. She been getting around back then
She was a dancer for Hammer
What i like about red man he kept it real why he told the story. Most rappers would of told a couple of lies to make they self look hard.
If you went to an MC Hammer concert back then you got a real show..
