In 1987, MC Hammer played at the Charleston WVa Civic Center. I was working in the mall across the street, in a shoe store on the 2nd floor that overlooked the 1st floor. The night of that concert, MC Hammer, all of his dancers, his entourage, and his security team, all came to the mall before the show. I watched the whole crew stroll in, wearing wild 1987 colors and MTV-kind of fashions, as the other workers and shoppers in the mall just stopped in surprise. MC Hammer himself walked with purpose, as some of the dancers bounced around a little. I already liked him, it was sooo cool to see him in person, as it was. They all went up to the food court for dinner. There were seriously at least 20 people in his group. It was awesome. MC Hammer's maybe first concert there.
But, like, MC was going to have someone murdered because that man responded to MC's diss track against them with their own and mentioned MC's mum. My favorite Hammer story is still when Ice Cube dissed him. Hammer and his entourage were staying at a Sheraton in LA. A cashier from Roscoe's calls Hammer and tells him that Cube is at the restaurant, and being kind of an asshole at that. Hammer briefs the troops, they get to their vehicles, and do a "thunder run" down the 101 freeway to the restaurant. Hammer orders his entourage to surround the restaurant just in case Cube tries to make a run for it. Hammer simply tells Ice Cube that if he ever thought of dissing him again, his safety would not be guaranteed.

Proud to say that MC Hammer was my first concert. 1991. I was 6 years old. The newspaper the next day said something about one of his backup dancers getting shot.
His name was MC hammer(hammer is nickname for gun) and his background dancers was Oakland 357 (357 is a gun). Yes hammer was commercial but still hood. He is from Oakland, Oakland always be nice but the hood is wild still til this day.
Third base’s label managed to get them some protections during their cali trip by giving the seats next to MJ to the mobs head for the American Music Awards show 🏆in addition to protection fees. Otherwise third base will never get out alive. MJ is respected everywhere 🕺
Hammer. That's the man right there. He too Legit....just like Kendrick. I remember Redman's account of this. The way he said "yes SIR!" Hammer really said "that oakland show gon' be your last stop". He really like that. 😂👏🏽
6 months later and it's still a good story thanks to the story teller you gotta do more my guy Last thing I'd want to hear from MC hammer is him saying "hammer time"
To be fair to Third Base, Hammer started it. After that it’s their (mostly Search’s) fault for not stopping after the fifth near miss (never mind the first 4). Tbh I would’ve asked for a different vehicle to Search and made it known on the station beforehand.
Back in the day (early 90's), everyone who knew about hip hop new that out of all the rappers, MC Hammer who had this squeaky clean image in public was a real gangster who could also really handle himself. NWA, Run DMC, Public Enemy etc, etc, kept saying they were Gangsters, but the real gangster was Hammer, who done everything he possibly could to hide the fact that he was an actual gangster
@DrakoGo2DaMoon not rly.. Dr Dre and ice cube mever did much before they started rapping about that stuff.. ice cube had good grades, ready to head off to college and Dr Dre was just a dj/dancer. @@cloudmaster182and Kendrick was never in a gang but hes affiliated just like damn new every body from Compton, because you grow up with it. Its the way life is. Stop the cap about Dre and Ice, just because they weren't members don't mean they weren't street. You don't know what you speak of.
That album actually is good as fuck, it’s just he couldn’t make his actual cred come across to the public since they still had (and have) the perception he’s soft as hell and kid stuff, and for a while he liked that (sold a shit ton of records and merch) until it was too late
That's not why, it's more because he got overexposed that was about the time that he got his animated series and at that time there was a cap of sorts on how commercial you could be and still have any credibility. If you layer that on top of the fact that he's already gained a following by being a bit more upbeat and positive and that's just not going to work. Most of what this video talks about is the result of just being in, very, very good with a community that's used to having to take matters into their own hands. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody else took offense to people screwing with him and he just played along to not rile anybody up.

He wouldn't even have to put 50k on someone. He says someone needs to go, they're gone simply as a courtesy. Dudes legit
@@CGoody564 Hammer also walked away from Death Row Records and Suge Knight…unscathed. In addition to The Boo Yah Tribe (You do not mess with Samoans) Suge was also afraid of Hammer
Mc Hammer is from Oakland, CA. That should've spoke for itself.
Yeah, but we didn't know he was from Oakland Oakland.

Jokes aside dude has donated millions to Oakland public schools and kept giving even during his bankruptcy. the bay loves Hammer and he’s a real one
He used to perform for kids at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass every year
I didn't even know he was like that until like 5 years ago but he definitely is and we proud of him to this day
I never knew Hammer went this hard. I talked to him a few times about technology and he’s extremely knowledgeable about really deep esoteric topics like machine learning and VR.
I’m glad I never got on his bad side and all we did was talking about computers 😅
Even $hort dawg was like "yeah, that's the hammer man", they had a rivalry but no hate. 😂
By the time he was wearing those pants, he lived in the Fremont hills. Regardless, Hammer and his brother are legit street dudes.
The moral of the story is: don’t disrespect MC Hammer, or it will be Hammer time.
Turns out Hammer Time is like when a videogame level starts running out of time and everything gets intense and difficult.
...Except, it's not Hammer that's running out of time in this analogy.
@@redgunnit MC Hammer isn't running out of time
He's running out of patience

I love your story telling style. Look, I’m an old white lady who’s not into rap music and knows vey little about it (though I do know who MC Hammer is). Few things in this story: rappers, Crips, music industry etc… are areas of interest to me. But I was totally into your story and even listened twice. A sure sign of a great storyteller! ✌️❤
I don't know anything about hammer, but you, sir, are a captivating story -teller.
He sounds so much tougher when you drop the MC and just call him Hammer. I was there during MC Hammer’s rein, I would never have guessed all this.
“Diss me
You try to diss me?

he is still rich, just not as rich as when he was supporting literally 1000 people form his own pockets.
Yep, an idiot for sure. I'm sure he was thinking, where are all these people that he wasted his money on go when he was broke. Nobody knows you when you're broke.
Just because he filed BK, doesn't mean he was broke. There's ways to make money look like it went away or gone, but really didn't. Hammer was no brokie, nor was he an idiot.
He still rich now
Hammer has so much knowledge about the industry. It’s hard to remember but the dudes that don’t need to rep can pull up the hardest. It’s like compensating. He doesn’t have to.
Talk about a perspective shifter, never would’ve thought. Man I loved his tunes as a kid lol.

MC Hammer really said "Hammer time" and hammered all over the place.
Proud to say that MC Hammer was my first concert. 1991. I was 6 years old. The newspaper the next day said something about one of his backup dancers getting shot.

Third base’s label managed to get them some protections during their cali trip by giving the seats next to MJ to the mobs head for the American Music Awards show 🏆in addition to protection fees. Otherwise third base will never get out alive. MJ is respected everywhere 🕺

Don’t start none, won’t be none is a proverb for a reason.
To be fair to Third Base, Hammer started it. After that it’s their (mostly Search’s) fault for not stopping after the fifth near miss (never mind the first 4). Tbh I would’ve asked for a different vehicle to Search and made it known on the station beforehand.

Hammer is a man of many talents, and apparently morphing into Mike Tyson at the end is one of them.
Dude, hooooooow are you gettin' all these stories?! I was there in the 90's and I missed all o' this😂😂😂
Mc Hammer, the definition of can't touch this😂
Should listen to Redman explain it. Bro was surrounded by people that even mc hammer didn't know
Back in the day (early 90's), everyone who knew about hip hop new that out of all the rappers, MC Hammer who had this squeaky clean image in public was a real gangster who could also really handle himself. NWA, Run DMC, Public Enemy etc, etc, kept saying they were Gangsters, but the real gangster was Hammer, who done everything he possibly could to hide the fact that he was an actual gangster
Eazy E was a real crip he even had respect from the Mexican gangs and suge was smart enough to not touch him because alot of crip sets had his back
NWA some real gangsters too
Thats why my boy had the gold toilet he was bout the shit
@DrakoGo2DaMoon not rly.. Dr Dre and ice cube mever did much before they started rapping about that stuff.. ice cube had good grades, ready to head off to college and Dr Dre was just a dj/dancer. Neither was really in the streets like how easy e was, but they were kind of around it and knew how to rap about it
@@cloudmaster182and Kendrick was never in a gang but hes affiliated just like damn new every body from Compton, because you grow up with it. Its the way life is. Stop the cap about Dre and Ice, just because they weren't members don't mean they weren't street. You don't know what you speak of.
Pete Nice one of the OG Rapp Snitch Knishes on dawgs
I remember this man had a cartoon show
The most ironic part about all this is Hammer tried to go gangsta rap after Dr. Dre (who is not a G irl) got it poppin, and the public rejected him
That album actually is good as fuck, it’s just he couldn’t make his actual cred come across to the public since they still had (and have) the perception he’s soft as hell and kid stuff, and for a while he liked that (sold a shit ton of records and merch) until it was too late
@@SmallSpoonBrigade that part !!!
Even more ironic, his gangsta album went platinum.
The industry wanted to make sure hip hop had no positive role models.
So it's fair to say MC Hammer had a problem with people playing on his name
Bro you are a great storyteller.
It was well-known on the West Coast that Hammer is dangerous. This is a guy who dances around, rapping about positivity, and telling kids to stay in school. He also garnered the utmost respect from the likes of Ice-T and Chuck D.
