Man small hands don't help. But I've been doing your hand stretches and my fingers are spreading out. I lost my speech to cancer back in 2014..I am a singer by trade...but God saved me from dying and is restoring my speech...he's so cool. But I promised him I would play guitar at all new levels for saving me from dying. My Athiest doctors are like wow no body talks like this after this type of cancer...it has to be God. I'm like God loves us a lot. He told me on my death bed, not to say I have cancer and to speak I survived it. Chemo damaged my liver and I prayed and within a week God restored it...doctors again were like wow...your God is amazing! Thx for the lessons Carl!! I will donate in the near future. 8 yrs cancer free!
I was in drop d and started playing this by accident today. I could mimic it pretty good but not quite right. Your lesson is bad ass brother. You actually know how to teach!!!! Good on you brother. I look forward to more of your tutorials. Got a patreon or something to contribute to. Your knowledge is worth some $$$$.
Great lesson & song, that chorus riff is gold, thanks 🤘🏻🐰👍🏻 "Show me the power child I'd like to say That I'm down on my knees today Yeah, it gives me butterflies, gives me away Till I'm up on my feet again"
At 5:35 you say "it doesn't sound very pleasing to the ears but he does it every time so he meant to do it"... you re absolutely right. Check Chris Cornell performing that song acoustic at the Santander Arts Center. You can get a good look at his hands and you are spot on. Very nice lesson, keep them coming.
Of course! Of course carl has a lesson on this song! And not just the like the beginning of songs but the entire song always!! You are the king my man!!!
thanx so much carl, really enjoying these chris cornell tribute lessons, man this song definitely has some of the greatest riffs of all-time, so heavy and badass yet fun!
I heard this song on playstation 1 the game of rash on the road, I liked your publication brother was looking for the name of this song for years thank you very much, I am from Brazil a big hug and success
Thank you very much!!! Amazing tutorial as always! And yes beck to '90s I was also amazed by this riff, can't belief after so many years I learning guitar and play this song from the best band ever!
Please do Room a thousand years.. For me its one of the best soundgarden songs. Such power!! Btw Carl you are awesome the amount of stuff you provide for us to learn
Thank you for this! We were looking to add one cover song to our setlist, and this was the one we chose. Your video helped us so much, again, thank you!
You're are about the only one that does the pre-chorus correctly. But when you were talking about what the bass does during is right too. It sounds best when played together in a band. It sounds funky when it's not. But great lesson.
Lesson as always was stellar, but not just that, the tone was great ! The pick ups on that Strat must be high outpit to get that great tone, but Carl what pedals did you use or suggest ? Sounds like overdrive and/or a fuzz maybe ? Sound kicks ass !

"doesn't sound pleasing to the ear, but he does it every time" ... well, honestly.. "pleasing to the ear" is merely personal perspective. If your ears are tuned to the obscure scales, it sounds most excellent, dude! :) It's a battle between good taste and commonly played chords/riffs/licks. Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell had good taste, and thought outside the box. I guess that was back in a time when you could get on the radio without having to use basic chords or common riffs. lol
Thanks for all the Chris Cornell Lessons! Looks like you really enjoyed this one! Can you please do a lesson for "Be Yourself" before you finish this series please? Thanks again for all the lessons!!
Watsup Carl, think you could give us some sweet guitar lessons from any of Death's famous ones? Like voice of the soul, regurgitated guts? or trapped in a corner? Would love to learn some of the great riffs from Death by a great guitar teacher like you. Sincerely, a fan.
Hi Carl, great job as always...will you please do Silverchair songs...Silverchair is an under rated band and their songs deserves to be examined and learned as they had great songs and cool riffs as well. Thank you!
Lesson timing:
Tuning - 1:04
Main Riff - 1:15
Pre-Chorus - 3:17
Chorus - 6:36
Guitar Solo - 9:54
Interlude - 15:58
Last Chorus - 19:13
Nice
Carl’s an absolute legend of UA-cam guitar in my opinion... And I think everyone else here can and does agree

The timing for this lesson was impeccable. I wanted to learn the song today, so I wondered "does Carl have a lesson?" Thanks!

Nice man, that’s such a good feeling to get the sound of a song you like purely by messing around.

Who the hell are the 10 a'holes who gave this video a thumb down? Carl is awesome for figuring these songs out and then teaching them on UA-cam.
I'm one of them :)
Thank you very much!!! Amazing tutorial as always! And yes beck to '90s I was also amazed by this riff, can't belief after so many years I learning guitar and play this song from the best band ever!
This song is so dense. Every single riff has so many things going on.
Kick ass class bro! This song kicks you in the nutz and leaves you wanting more. Strange, but metal all the way 🤘🏼

Been waiting so long for this, nice video Carl.
