I just recently bought a jon boat but it’s so funny because you live in my childhood house in bellingrath. I grew up playing in the creek behind the house
Just found your channel because I’m looking to do a job boat to bass boat build. Figured you were cool when I saw you made a video and a build. I KNEW you were cool when I saw the Braves shirts! Keep choppin!
a bottle of tite bond III to seal the edges of the plywood before painting. what you did works. Then a tarp to cover and pvc to cover it during those long periods.
Great jobs fellas! I’ve got the same boat but 15 ft with a 9.9 Mercury how much weight did that add to the boat do you think I’d be fine? Man I wish I got my lumber a year ago that plywood is $90 a sheet and a 6 ft 2x4 is almost $12 dollars 🤣😂😅 but the boat build looks great
Hey guys, nice job! I found a great way of making door accesses on my rebuilds and talk about "CHEAP"! I find these boats on Marketplace where folks have no titles. I buy access panels (doors) with the hinges attached for nearly nothing, and some for free. I build my frames for storage and attach these lids (doors). Also, another cheap use of strong material for framing are bed frames that I cut, drill and bolt together. Most bed frames I find cost me $10. As for carpet I go to apartment complexes and carpet stores and do some some "dumpster diving". I always get permission from management though. I also find 2x4's and occasionally some plywood or OSB board. Most of my costs are in the hardware until the electronics come into play and new/used rod holders. Thanks again and great build!
i just bought a 10ft 48 wide for 100 bucks only had one leak in it too. looking to mod mine like this that looks great. started planning for it. I guess i would have to mount pvc on sides to support more weight and stabilize better? still looks good after 2 years (your build)
I looked what you did and how you did it. Was the plywood treated? If so use good water seal. Everyone I've talked to so far has used half inch treated plywood. Electrical can get costly but if you plan it out first it's reasonable. I'd also add a solar battery charger just to be safe.
I have to say you did a great job for only 150 bucks. Only thing would have changed would have used hinges instead of straps. And they make handles for compartments. I'd like to do this with my boat but covering it all the time is kind of a pain in the butt. Loos like it's held up well considering it's in the elements.
Wanting to do the SAME thing but I cannot find a jon boat anywhere? You know a good price for a used boat or should I just get a new one? I'm a disabled veteran now so I dont get paid much. Thanks brotha.
maybe you should contact "Tiny Boat Nation" and offer up your boat as a patient for their "Pimp my Bass Boat" UA-cam series that they have yet to think of creating !
Looking to swap from my kayak to a Jon boat. Aiming for a 1448 for max stability but still can be stored in our garage. If your budget is enough, I would go with aluminum framing for an upgrade. Stronger and lighter. Also consider non-wood options for decking as well.
I was wondering how the hell your got all that wood or less than $150. If any y’all try to do this now. Your looking at $100 for two sheets of ply board alone. And that carpeting is expensive as hell too.
I am about to do my dads boat we just lost him I asked him about that boat and he would say I am going to use it I always told him I was going to do this to his boat but
I wish someone would do actual stability examples in videos..only one ive seen is a guy jumping from seat to seat...cause everyone fishes like that...smh But a video about real fishing examples with different size boats would be a great video to show people what size they may need. A 1236 may be perfect for a single guy and a 1436 maybe needed for 2...ect...u get my point...now if you can pull together all the diffent sizes needed..lmao..
Yes you could have added seats. For us however, we stand the entire time. Also, with the boat being a 1436, adding seats would have taken up a good bit of room
You two good ol’ boys built a great boat and this two year update is incredibly helpful to me. Thanks much!

Nice. After 2 years actually looks decent. Makes me more confident that my budget build will be good for a few years
Thats what I was thinking. Yeah there's some minor issues, but they could have either been prevented or can be fixed. Not bad I'd say
Pressure treated 1 inch Plywood is a must. Worth the extra couple of dollars.
I'm building one soon very soon... can't take it anymore.....haha great job can't wait to see the update
🤣🤣🤣 you should! Not difficult. A little more spacious than a yak
U guys did a bang up job. Anyone who complains can fish from shore!!
Nice build.
Thanks for the update.
Helps show us where we can improve
Need to build since I’m a quadriplegic. May alter it a bit but thanks for the in depth video.
Boat looks awesome!!
Perfect, some touching up. U guys did a great job.

I used Scooa blue blue 3/4” water proof my boat 20” x48. Have a 25hp 2 stroke
I would try a bilge pump in the back to get that water out the bottom, some seats with the poles like bass boats have, ohhhh and some leds in the boat
Nice job. Maybe fiberglass resin coating the wood instead of oil based paint would help from warping.
I’ve been doing exactly that for the past few days and Leme tell ya 😅😅😅😮
Good Job Guys ......
Good build. I say should’ve gone more on sealant because that’s what keeps everything good
I agree. Probably used a better type
Use the plastic wood for decking and use plastic barrels for foldable walking area and pontoon
Adding aluminum angle to your lids and seat will keep them from curling.
Well done. Pretty good longevity overall
Using marine plywood would make a huge difference. It is pretty much unaffected by water.

What thickness was your plywood
1/2”
What was the hot foot for or whatever that foot button is next to the trolling motor pedal ?
Big foot switch
Is it possible to add a live well
You could, yes
hey what type of screws did you use to screw the framing to the seat? self tap?
I'm pretty sure they were just decking screws
No your right they were. Sorry I was confused on what you were asking haha
@@fireantfishing thanks man! dope builds

No pressure treated wood, just sealed with oil based enamel

Maybe use western cedar 2x4 and rip them into 2x2 , lighter and can take the water better
3/4 to 11/16 plywood would not warp as bad or get a more expensive wood sheet. It will add a little more weight but do a good job.
Wanting to do the SAME thing but I cannot find a jon boat anywhere? You know a good price for a used boat or should I just get a new one? I'm a disabled veteran now so I dont get paid much. Thanks brotha.
I think I spent about just the same on my 12ft seaking
I just scored a 14'8 Greger boat
Budget is not much more than last boat!!
Instead of plywood have you guys considered the pvc board? It's heavier but much more durable and waterproof. Just curious on your thoughts
was this marine carpet or just some outdoor carpet? seems it's fraying at the edges?
No its just regular outdoor carpet
That’s actually not too bad...the lids can be replaced and wiring redone, I was expecting to see something much worse lol
Haha I know right. Wasn't bad at all. Especially for spending so much time in the elements
Cedar instead of pine, anything instead of pine. Or double up on 2x4 to make 4x4 for better support in the deck
How's this thing still holding up?
It’s still going, just don’t look pretty haha
@@fireantfishing gotcha😂
Maybe use epoxy to seal the wood. It looks like the carpet and paint held up.
Thats a good thought as well

Im in contact with Tiny Boat Nation everyday haha
The hetty music got me vibing a fish on 😂

how much was the jon boat by itself
I think I should have put Floatation foam
We did add some in the middle. We could and probably should have added more

Hmm...good idea
Haha. My online name is FireAnt3508. That is super cool. We are twins.
$150 for wood, yeah can tell this is two years ago lmao
hahahahaha
Should’ve used treated plywood , so it’s water proof and won’t warp when wet
Why? So the aluminum will foul?
Seats
Yes you could have added seats. For us however, we stand the entire time. Also, with the boat being a 1436, adding seats would have taken up a good bit of room
JESUS IS THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE!!!
JESUS CHRIST LOVES YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Got to stop saying um so much ....
What are you guys building the Titanic? Stop the shit music
yeah you need a merc 115 tower of power on that beast!! lol.
Full send baby haha
What thickness was your plywood
This boat was 1/2”
