My Top 10
10. Kirk Windstein
9. Tony Iommi
8. James Hetfield
7. Rob Arnold
6. Alex Skolnick
5. David Gilmour
4. Mick Ralphs
3. Jeff Loomis
2. Brent Hinds
1. Jeff Hanneman
Hanneman is the reason I wanted to play guitar, I know its not possible but if it was I would thank him for how he impacted my life when I saw him play South of Heaven and it was the most bad ass thing ever!
Hey cheers dude!👊 And yeah- I remember first hearing South of Heaven and it was life changing!
My top 10 guitar players would start off with
10 Chris Holmes - Ex W.a.s.p.
9 Rob Cavestany - Death angel
8 Scott Ian - Anthrax
7 Gary Holt - Exodus
6 Angus young - Ac/dc
5 Kirk hammet - Metallica
4 Richie Blackmore - Rainbow
3 Dimebag - Pantera
2 Dave Murray - Iron maiden
1 Jimi Hendrix
And yes Rob you should do more video's of your guitar hero's or bass players or even drummers.
😳👍
This is very difficult.
So many amazing guitarists out there.
My list would include several noted here along with Alex Skolnick, Gary Holt, Rob Cavestony and this AMAZING dude from Chimaira who’s having an exceptional solo career 😆👍🫵
Love it, Rob!
Haha! You da man Todd! 🙏👊🎸
Here's mine. (Since I am a guitarist and vocalist, my list is not based *entirely* on guitar playing, but it is based mostly on guitar playing.)
10. Tony Iommi - I mean, of course he was going to be on here. Without him, there's nothing, but he still DIRECTLY inspires younger musicians today.
9. Dan Donegan - of Disturbed, his playing on Believe and beyond single-handedly saved that band from nu-metal obscurity; tasteful solos, great groove
8. Wayne Static - Proof that it doesn't have to be complicated or overly technical to be good, fun, memorable, heavy and just all-around BAD ASS
7. Buz McGrath/Ken Susi - the classic Unearth duo, these guys really opened my eyes to how groove and technicality could work together seamlessly
6. Rob Arnold/Matt DeVries(/Mark Hunter) - classic Chimaira duo/trio; their ability to write death-and-extreme-metal riffs with as much groove as they have is insane
5. Jerry Cantrell - I can't even describe how much his music has meant to me through the years. He is one of the most emotive and fluid players ever.
4. Kirk Hammett - His solos are absolutely incredible, I don't care what anyone says. They are verses in their own right: singable and memorable. He elevated the art.
3. Robb Flynn(/Phil Demmel) - I know some may scoff, but I love how he writes. He has a varied writing style, but always brings it back around to make it his own. His years working with Demmel on lead were, in my opinion, the best years of Machine Head, but the latest record shows he still has it.
2. Dimebag Darrell - Unstoppable. I debated putting him lower as his later work in Damageplan was starting to show him losing a step or two, but the impact this guy made on me as a young guitarist and the impact he still has on me today is undeniable. Even the weaker stuff he did in DP was better than 95% of metal at the time.
1. James Hetfield - the man, the myth, the legend; him exposing his weaknesses and vulnerability makes him even tougher, like "come at me"
Anyways, I'm sure I missed some and there's plenty of honorable mentions, but that's just who MY favorite guitarists are. Nothing to do with "the best", skill, longevity, or anything like that. \m/
Nice list! We have quite a few of the same names on our lists. 🤘
No order in particular for me, but my top 10 are Steve Vai, Chris Poland, Mick Thomson, Fredrik from Meshuggah, Wes Borland, Alexi Laiho, Hetfield, Mustaine, Chuck Schuldiner, and that one shredder from Chimaira and the Elite 😉
Haha 👊😉
Have you ever checked out Sylosis? Josh Middleton is a guitarist/vocalist and he's just INCREDIBLE. If you haven't checked them out, you're really sleeping big on a future legendary band.
Deinitely! Josh is a monster riffer! One of his recent videos highlighted recreating some guitar tones from my band, Chimaira! ua-cam.com/video/p9Fgyd5xbWo/v-deo.htmlsi=6c8vS0ugSqdpMVxx
Sylosis and Revocation are 2 of my favorites right now cause of Josh and Dave Davison. I'd throw Brandon Ellis in there also for my modern favorites. Modern to me anyway I'm a Megadeth junkie old guy lol.
I'm definitely an old Megadeth junkie too! And proud of it!🤘 @@gaberox1
That story about the black album tour book seriously made me laugh. I agree with everything you said about Kirk, he’s truly achieved legend status. Despite all the attempts to tear him down, you can’t take away from the fact that he’s written some of the most memorable solos in metal history. Great video mate!
Thank you sir!🤘
So, I'm a few years younger than you, Rob, but I still got into music in the 90's during the big grunge/alternative wave. However, Alice in Chains is one of the first bands I got into (along with Metallica, Pantera, the Offspring, etc.) and, before I really knew much about specific genres, AiC always sounded like and fit right in with the heavy metal bands and I considered them such. For the most part I still do today.
Jerry has a style that transcends genres, somewhat like grunge did itself. Fans of punk, alt rock, heavy metal could all hear their respective "home" genres represented in it. I think it's selling him a little short to call him just a rock guitarist, but that's my own humble opinion. \m/
Great discussion and commentary RA. I’d listen daily this
🤘🙏👊
Awesome video man! Keep the music content coming. Max and andreas on the list totally agree. Also your guy’s guitar writing on the infection is epic and is very inspiring.
👊
As soon as you start talking about James and MetallicA I see that smile coming out of you and I know exactly that feeling cause I got that smile on too!
Great list Rob. I've been following you for long enough that none of this was surprising haha. You should do a top 10 Rhythm and top 10 lead players...Maybe even top 10 drummers too seeing as you are such a fan of the tubs!
Thanks bro! And I'll definitely keep your ideas in mind!🤘
A good list...not that you need my endorsement 😂...I understand you can't have everyone, and maybe sticking to a genre is a good way of doing it, but....Ty Tabor and Alex Lifeson. There are very few original players out there, but here's two. Ty especially does not get enough love for his riffs/chord choices, his tones, solos, and ability to sing (harmonies!) over some pretty crazy playing...I mean check out "Talk to You" from Faith, Hope and Love. There aren't many guys who could make a Strat (!) sound that crushing. If you're not aware of Ty, be good to yourself and bask in the glory of one of the most original players out there.
This was a great video Rob
Thanks brother!
Awesome list Rob! Very respectful 🤘
Solid list, love Sepultura as well Arise album was the shit Desperate Cry hits hard
Great list Rob. So many greats to choose from. The Sepultura boys Max and Andreas definitely created a new level of riffage. You're not so bad yourself!! Love these style of videos. Nice. Heavy Metal Over Everything!!
👊
My favorite guitarists are as follows, evh, lynch, zakk, leslie west, john petrucci and last but never least? The father of metal, tony iommi
Well Rob, perhaps you could also do videos on your favorites of the other band instruments (ie: bassists, drummers, vocalists). 🥂
So glad to Andreas Kisser get some love and respect! The dude is AMAZING!🤘🏻🤘🏻 and has some of the best metal hair EVER🤘🏻
Great video Rob! Maybe you could follow up with a part 2 & have modern guitarists that you like or inspire you! 🤘🎸🤘
I've added it to my list! 🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld awesome Rob! Can’t wait to see that video! 🤘🎸🤘
I know exactly what you mean about trying to play Marty Friedman's stuff. I have covered numerous Megadeth songs on my channel, and I can come close to approximating his solos, but they're always slightly off because his style is so unique to him, and so foreign to me. Especially his "boomer bends." 😂
NOMAD!
My all time Sepultura fav 🤘
Love you list man, couple in there i didnt expect!
Dimebag, Robb flynn, Rob arnold, John Connolly, Dan donegan, Mark tremonti, Matt tuck, Allen collins, stephen carpenter, Zakk wylde.
👊
@@RobArnoldWorld episode on 90s groove metal? Favourite albums, play some riffs, how you got onto it, how it became a massive influence in the the sound of Chimaira, all that jazz lol be interesting to hear all about it because its my favourite genre of all time!
i was fortunate to see max and iggor here in london last year november on the morbid devastion tour. super crazy show. during the show max did throw some shade at the current sepultura
Oh wow, I'm curious... what did he say?
@RobArnoldWorld he said, him and iggor are the real sepultura. Going to see the current line up this year November on their farewell tour. I like both era's
Cool!@@Edgecrusher66
Great list I’m not even sure who mine would be but you’d be on there for sure👊🏻💀 guess I’ll have to think about it 🤘🏻

10, shit that’s hard.
Jim Root
Mark Tremonti
Jeff Martin
James Hetfield
Bill Kelliher
Allen Collins

Greeting and cheers to Brazil! 👊🍻
@@RobArnoldWorld obrigado, Rob. ( thanks Rob )
Definitely do more of those videos man! Really fan!!
My top 10 would be like this:
10. Ritchie Kotzen
09. Dimebag
08. Chuck Schuldiner
07. Robb Flynn
06. Fredrik Thordendal
05. Erik Rutan
04. John Petrucci
03. Michael Romeo
02. Vogg
01. Jeff Loomis
Bring more of this stuff
Have you done an underrated top 10 guitar players? Even if you don't like the bands it would be interesting. Love the content. ❤
I haven't, but I'll consider it!
THIS!!!...... 🖤 🤘 🤘🖤 !!!!
You got to tour with DAMAGE PLAN!. Literally one of favorite albums.group was about to change
1. The GOAT HIMSELF - Dimebag!
2. Rob Arnold
3. Jerry Cantrell
4. Brian "Head" Welch
5.
there was something about watching bands in a smoky bar.. man I miss that ,and I never smocked
Great video ! My favorite guitarists are Matthias Jabs, Josh Middleton, Alexi Laiho, Sakis Tolis, Marios Iliopoulos, Gus G and you 🤘
My man👊
I would like to know @RobArnoldWorld about your top ten favourite countries to play live
Hey Rob.... greetings man....
Really true mate, I'm from India and my journey towards Metal Music begain by Metallica....
It was one of the night, nearly between 12 to 1 am, when I turned radio station on my music player and heard this masterpiece "Nothing Else Matters". I got so fascinated by the song, that from the next day I became a metal guy from pop genre. I really didn't knew that such kind of music even existed. I know that it came late to me but since then I never looked back to any other kind of music. Only after that I came to know regarding other bands like Creed, Godsmack, Deep Purple, Guns and Roses, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and many... many more.... That metallica song was just like a ticket for metal music to me....
Thanks mate for making this video, really appreciate 👍....
That's awesome man, and I love stories like that! Welcome to the club! 🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld 🤟🤟🤟
No Randy Rhoads?, solid top 10 btw.
Rhoads is definitely a legend! But he's just outside of my top 10.
Cantrell is a good one. It's hard to really make a list of Favorite Guitarist. There are too many to pick from. But one thing that sets certain guitarists apart from the others is a siganture sound when you know a band from the guitar sound right away. CCR, VH, ZZ Top, Zeppelin, AIC
Dimebag is my favorite metal guitarist 🎸! By leaps and bounds it the best metal guitarist. Getcha Pull. 2 Eddie Van Halen. Randy Rhoads. Eddie and Randy are the reason I started playing guitar. George Lynch. Very underrated, yet very awesome! Paul Gilbert. Yngwie Malmsteen. Tony Iommi. Gotta give him major props for basically inventing Metal. My 1st album that I was allowed to pick out for myself, when I was 5 was Black Sabbath's Paranoid. Buckethead. Steve Vai. Kirk Hammett. This is my list. Don't know if anyone agrees with the guitarists I chose for this list?
Yeah, i rememer on Head bangers ball they started playing jumk like Blind Melon, spin doctors. Pretty solid top 10 list.
Robbin Crosby my 2 80s child
I agree with your list Rob, all guitar legends, but im suprised nobody has mentioned John Petrucci in the comments..
Josh Middleton and Adam D Joel S are my favourites. And the obvious ones like Pappa Het. Yourself included growing up I greatly appreciated your work.
Can’t really pick an absolute favourite I love them all.
👊
What i think of your top ten,
Jerry Cantrell - all the thrash guys love Alice In Chains, dark, heavy, expressive.
Slash - im not really a Guns guy, but he is a master of Pentatonics, super talented.
Andreas Kisser - seen Sepultura 3 times with orginal line up, Arise is in my top 5 thrash albums, love your signature Jackson.
Max Cavalera - what can i say, he's a God, Sepultura, Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy are off the chain bro.
Dimebag - i seen Pantera on the Vulgar tour, met Dime for a second and he spoke to me like a friend and im only fan who loves music.
Eddie Van Halen - Not really a Van Halen guy, but Trey Azagthoth loves him so im a EVH guy.
Marty Freidman - if i practiced for 25 hours a day and Satch and Vai trained me, i could easily play like Marty.
Dave Mustaine - I THINK HE IS THE BEST METAL GUITARIST EVER.
James Hetfeild - when i learned guitar i down picked everthing like a MF, thanks James i cant alternate pick to save myself (love him)
Kirk Hammet - If you dont like Kirk Hammet you probably dont like yourself.
Love your channel, something for everyone bro 🤟👍
And I love your breakdown of all all my picks! 🙌
Cheers bro and I appreciate you tuning in! 👊🎸
I hope James Hetfield knows how many guitar players he inspired. I would not be a guitar player without his riffs.
GOAT
100%
I think I said this in a lot of your videos maybe even in almost everyone . But for me number 1 ,with all my respect to your list of course is you, Mr. Rob Arnold , for me the best in history and on this planet. Still today I dont know how you do it. You are truly gifted. ❤ 🤘🏻🎸
Aye! I appreciate ya! 🫵 😎🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld 🤘🏻🙌🏻🥇
I can’t disagree with any of those guitarist. Legends.
👊
Andreas kisser is underrated definitely, a great groove in your face…
Dimebag Darrel was a monster of guitar, the guitarist
For me the tops were always Kirk, wylde, dime, and slash (if were talking about favorite ever)….i 100 percent owe picking up and learning guitar to kirks solos (more particularly AJFA album front to back and misery/wolf/god that failed)…i have plenty of other guitarists that I LOVE but they have alway been on my top even when i dont listen to the specific bands for periods of time
How about your top ten favorite metal breakdowns of all time? You were/are? the breakdown master in Chimaira so it would be interesting to get your take on this important subject.
Noted!

My top 10 favorite guitarists of all time:
1. James Hetfield
2. Kirk Hammett
3. Dimebag
4. Rob Arnold
5. Robb Flynn
6. Joe Duplantier
7. Jason Becker
8. Marty Friedman
9. Jason Richardson
10. Buckethead
Although 7-10 show that I love solo artists and instrumental albums, at my core I’m all about the riffs! So 1-6 are the players that taught me every technique that I know on guitar, and they are the ones I listen to on a daily basis. 🤘
Aye Mitch! I appreciate that brother! 🙏 Happy you're a part of the community! 👊🎸
Thanks Rob! 🤘
A few years ago I took the time to read all the Sepultura credits in the booklets and I can say that it was pretty close to a 50/50 percent between Max & Andreas. Plus Andreas also wrote LYRICS back then.
Interesting!
Awesome list man. I totally agree about Kirk. It also annoys the hell out of me when I see so many people bag on Lars. It's like everyone has forgot about fun and vibe and character. Too many people are just too focused on if someone is the most technical or "best". What about "the right fit" for a band. Best or not. Anyways......another top contender in my opinion for downpicking.....Tom Maxwell when he was in Nothingface. Dude can downpick like you wouldn't believe.
I agree bro! Lars is quite creative in my opinion, both behind the kit and in terms of the bands business sense.
Those first couple Nothingface records were awesome!
100% agree about Kirk and Lars, and great shoutout to Nothingface! As Rob said, An Every Day Guide… and Violence are AWESOME albums that I still jam to this day! 🤘
HUGE respect for not only putting Kirk on this list, but at the top 🙏🏼 it’s ridiculous to me the hate he gets and i feel like most of it is just people repeating what they hear. no one can write a memorable solo like Kirk.
Agreed! And I'll say the same for Lars!
To answer your question at the end I enjoyed this video and would like to see more similar to this. Maybe even pick out your favorite tracks from specific genres and subgenres and then play a sample of the songs. Truth be told I concur with your list (even in swapping a few names around, such as Darrell Lance Abbott at 1). However all great guitarists. I love amazing lead players but rhythm guitar is the most important part of being a guitarist IMHO. Probably why I play bass primarily and rhythm guitar as a second instrument. For instance as great a lead player EVH was/IS he's 10 times better as a rhythm guitarist. Best example was when Van Halen released and toured on the BALANCE album released in the Summer of 1995. Also to add one other thing Andreas of Sepultura is definitely using a whammy pedal. Unless they were calling that effects box something back then. Also I concur with you saying Max was probably more of the riff writer until he left. I can tell by the fact all the rhythm guitar writing and playing after Max left sounded nothing like the early days of Arise and Chaos AD. Which I feel are their all time best work. All great choices but in closing in all fairness to Andreas Kissinger, Sepultura's last 4 albums are all phenomenal. Quadra, possibly being the strongest record since Chaos AD back in October of 1993. 🤘 👊
Word! 🤘 👊
Good list, Rob. Its always tough to pick top favorites anything these days. I hope the tides turn on these young players that have these amazing talents for such technical riffs and they will start to incorporate grooves and soul. I love technical music but you have to have rhythm. Its hard to watch these kids that cant play without a clicktrack and/or just blaze away without any groove or feelings. The whole point of music is to move the soul. Dimebag was one of a kind. Despite what some people believe, dime is responsible for influencing the majority of guitarist today, whether they admit it or not. He created tones and riffs that changed metal in the best ways. I completely agree about Metallica. Some kind of monster killed them for me. I lost all love and respect for them. I never liked lars or his playing but that video sealed their casket. I seen them in 05' in Jacksonville Florida with Godsmack opening and not long after that i watched that video. We could only imagine what they'd be with a good drummer
I agree on all man, except for the Lars thing! I love his drumming and feel the Metallica we know and love, would not be Metallica without him. However I only felt that way until St. Anger! 🤘🤣
@@RobArnoldWorld I get it man. I guess it's different coming from the drum throne. Most drummers realize they are the backbone and try to up the game of their guitarist. When you have great strings and vocals but simple ass drum beats it just seems lacking. Back in their thrash days especially when at the time they had some of the most technical and diverse riffs but throughout their whole career, the drums have left voids in their music that most every drummer feels. Hell there's actually some spoof videos online of what they would be with good drumming. It's kinda funny to me. 😂
The only thing that has come out that I even remotely like is orbit cultures version of hardwired 😂
I want more of this kinda stuff

Ive been on a Paul Gilbert kick. Specifically his Racer X stuff.
Dude... I'm making a video I'm tentatively calling, "I'm obsessed with Paul Gilbert!". After seeing his recent interview with Rick Beato, which blew me away, I can't believe I hadn't taken note of Paul in the past. I'm paying attention now though for sure! 🎸
@RobArnoldWorld Haha, that's crazy. Yeah, a couple months ago I came across Fuzz Universe and I've been hooked ever since. Technical Difficulties is my favorite at the moment.

Side note - those docs Metallica made completely ruined my childhood image of them. I agree with you that they were better off keeping those growing pains to themselves and not broadcasting it to the world.
Rob you are the reason I picked up guitar again after many years.
Metallica+AC/DC+Black Sabbath was the reason the first time. But I was also playing drums and landed as a drummer in a band. Guitar went to back burner and sadly faded away.
Last year I ran into your channel and watching your videos ignited something in me. At first I was like "maybe next year or so when I have more time..." That only lasted a few days 😅 The more I watched more it grew and finally I distinctly remember your Comatose playthrough did it. Next thing I know I was waiting for my axe to arrive.
There are a lot of greats but these are the ones that affected my life the most.
+Dave Mustaine and this is my list
Awesome dude! Mission accomplished! 🎸 What new axe do you have on the way?
@@RobArnoldWorld I was preparing my wallet for the RA-600 while hunting for one but none came up. After watching your Comatose playthrough I did a quick search and found out about a cheap Jim Root Strat copy all black with active pickups made by Harley Benton(st20hh). Never heard of them up until that point but it had good reviews and was cheap enough to give it a shot. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Tuned that to drop C and bought one of their Les Paul copies(sc450bk) for E standard. Nothing groundbreaking but they are fun to play. It's still amazing how much guitar we get for less than $200(shipping and tax included) nowadays though.
@@RobArnoldWorld This was all like 9 months ago, I've been meaning to write you but this was a good video to do it I guess 😅 Actually the first guitar arrived right after you surprised your son with the 80s style ESP. I was able to share a similar moment with my 3yo son, we watched some reviews together but didn't know I bought it,he was excited to see it, that was nice 🙂 RA-600 is still the goal though, oh yes it will be mine 🙂
Sorry for the long posts btw, I knew it would be long and didn't wanna take up so much of your time, that's why I postponed it all this time
No worries dude! Happy you were able to share a moment like that with your boy!🎸 I've obviously been hearing a lot about Harley Benton lately, but I've never checked one out. Nice to hear that they're up to snuff!@@miyaaaaw

Aye! Thanks for noticing! And for the longtime support bro! 🎸@@VaGdude
Nice list.. but for me i would have excluded slash, I'll never get why everyone loves him so much.
Im sorry Rob, but you are #3 in my list of favourite guitarists after Wes Borland and Brian Welch

Surprised no Trey Azagthoth or north east death metal guys like rob barrett, its the heavy groove of the north east dm guys which reminds me of Chimaria.
I mentioned both Morbid and Cannibal, saying those guys were some of my biggest influences, but unfortunately a top 10 can only contain 10!
yeah, as long as this is "like" and not "best" there won't be any sparks flying. there is no wrong answer.
edit: SOULFLY. i saw every clevo soulfly appearance. i love max and his drummer he had that brought that world feel into the metal drumming. the late 90's/early 2k's had the best concerts like the 3 guitar IM reunion and all the ozzfest era bands and like those chimaera scrubs etc. that was the best of times. my fav is santana, because he knows the most note combinations of anyone, after that, it's the old school metal guitrists. king diamond and testament are 4 of my favorites and the judas priest god glenn tipton.. robert fripp, the human guitar sequencer and progressive genius. (i dont expect you to know about king crimson, fwiw, my all-time favorite band, above and beyond all my metal favs)
Roy Mayorga! 🥁
And cheers to Cleveland! I can't remember what year, but I saw Santana at Blossom one time, and it was great! I think The Rootz opened? Did you see that show?
@@RobArnoldWorld no i did not. i permanently boycotted blossom back when it was one of 2 big venues because their policies really sucked (coliseum was the other, unreal shit went down at those concerts. the parking lot was pure insanity. there will never be those times again in this camera/tech/police world any more. i saw things i wouldn't even imagine. along with great shows)
Hammett is your all time fav!? To each his own I guess.
I can't believe Jim Lamarca didn't make your top 10.
Ahh he's juuuust outside at #11!
Kirk my 3
0:53 To this day, I can't use the term "grunge" for AIC. For me, AIC is a melodic, basically dark-toned, often metal-sounding music. In connection with the latter, just think of the Dirt record. Because of their friendship with the other Seattle-based bands, they "belong together with the others" but musically, I think they are not really a "grunge" band.
I can agree with that!
Hi Rob, I would add Jeff Hanneman to your list, plus Robb Flynn and Dino Cazares (for obvious reasons you're well aware of :-)). Then, put Dimebag as n°1, the best metal player ever, no competition whatsoever. And sorry, I'm not a huge fan of Hammett's playing at all.... so he probably wouldn't even be in my top ten list. The rest of the guys you mention I dig like yourself (Friedman/Mustaine, obviously, Cavalera who drunk me under the table one night in Paris), but I wouldn't call Van Halen a metal player, so he doesn't really belong to this list (neither does Slash for instance). So if you put the all-time Greats out of the way (EVH, Hendrix, Blackmore, Page, Holdsworth, Vaughan, Beck, Les Paul, Atkins, Setzer, Fripp etc.), my personal "pure metal" list would be : 1. Dimebag and then, in no particular order : Tony Iommi, James Hetfield, Dino Cazares, Robb Flynn, Jeff Hanneman, Dave Mustaine, Max Cavalera, Chuck Schuldiner, Jeff Loomis, Alexi Laiho and... oups I'm already beyond 10. Mostly rhythm players (not Loomis, OK, nor Laiho) but that's what I dig mostly. Cool video, anyway !
That's part of what makes this all great! Everyone has a different list, and different orders! We're blessed to live in a world with so much great music!
How many oldschool guitarists, but without Chuck Schuldiner...
#6!? Blasphemy!
Long live marty era
You forgot Dot Wiggin!
Most of us wouldn’t exist without James Hetfield!
Funnily enouhg I don't hear any Kirk in your playing. I can hear only you. Not many people have their own unique style, but you are one of those chosen few.
I appreciate that man!👊 Even though I personally hear a lot of Kirk in my playing, I'll take it!
DIMEBAG WILL ALWAYS BE MY 1
Is this a legit top 10? I know that these guys are you're influences as you grew as a guitarist, but does the list change at all if we put these on the top shelf and rate guitarists that aren't a direct influence on you're playing? I had a lot of trouble putting this question together and not sure if it coming across right lol I know you're palate may be limited by what you can tolerate within a reasonable generational bracket. Could there be a second list?
There is of course guitarists 11-20! And 21-100!
Very well said, about to check out your new vid with a continued list. Thank you!
Jeff healey.
maybe im on my own with this one, but I'm not impressed with guns and roses or slash, if I have to hear November Rain*** one more time I'm gonna lose my mind.
#1!? Blasphemy!
That guy that’s never heard Alice In Chains hahahahaha
😏
Obviously, not to trash your list as it's yours and you're more than entitled to it. I'm a huge metallica fan myself. Kirk of 80s to 90s was style virtually a god. 00s 10s 20s Kirk. No where near. He has to be the laziest lead player i can think of these days. Puts no song writing effort into the albums, his solos on the latest album were all forgetful in my opinion.
To go down the route of being a live improv player, you have to be able to improv in the first place. He tends to play the same runs and rarely produces anything that expands on his playing.
It really is a shame as the first 4 albums were like a bible of tasteful metal solos.
For me, the last great kirk solo was on exodus - salt the wound. It just feels like he doesn't care at all about his output now.
Are you bradley hall?
No, but I also have a liking of baked beans.....
Nothing to do with Bradley hall's opinion. Thought the above way before I even knew who Bradley was.
@thomassochacki128 🤣
Dude, I 100% agree about the "lazy" thing! I've secretly thought that for years... I saw them here in Cleveland early on the Death Magnetic tour and was overcome with disappointment. His classic solos sounded sloppy and played with no effort. And then all the solos on DM (and everything afterwards) have just felt like he couldn't care less. It's a shame!
@@RobArnoldWorld massive shame. Even some of his recent comments about solos have been hugely disappointing. The dude had HAD huge chops. These days even Kerry King's solos have more purpose and direction lol.
Think he's probably so far beyond his previous life, I doubt we'll ever get a version of kirk that inspires again....
No love for Wes Borland?
Bassist. Not a lead.
@@Anthony-Bluhmwhat's sam rivers then?
DEATH METAL is better ☝️
Dimebag & Mustaine forever changed my guitar playing.
For sure!🤘
