Loving the UNCUT footage of you just turning around on a whim and grabbing the guitar to start playin a riff. This is absolutely unreal for me, being 42 years old and listening to you since I was 20 years old and seeing you, like I said without editing. Please continue this format. I saw you and talked to you for a minute in like 2005 in Jacksonville Beach Florida at Freebird. Got to talk to Jim too and Mark for a second. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work. ~ one of your biggest fans.
Holy shit man, I had no idea Mikeal did music for a Netflix show. Super cool! he must have loved doing this. It's got a lot of Opeth moments as well as other creepy bits, jazzy stuff and even some acoustic!!! excellent shout out to the man! great question on the lighting, excellent video. Magnitude is pre-ordered and I'm stoked!
Yo rob you still got that kill em all t-shirt . You know the one I saw you in almost every show in the 2000s lol still got mine sir. Thanks for being awesome bro.
So cool to listen to those Infection Riffs. I went back and forth and although the difference was slight... The lower tuning definitely gave those songs more of a dark vibe. So awesome!
THIS. MIGHT. BE. THE. LAST TIME, THE LAST TIME! The Disappearing Sun is such an incredible song and I love that main riff! - had that comment in draft mode while I was finishing up a work email, then I heard my name. \m/ rock on! The Infection is an album that has grown on me so much. Another awesome episode. Can't wait to get the new album.
The infection was great cuz It took a lot of those would be groove riffs, and did the half time drum thing which gives groove.ive said for like almost 20 years, that blast beats ruin a lot of great riffs that could've have groove or been headbanging. Imagine the best riffs from like slayer,or Megadeth, just being ruined with a blast beat over them. That's why the infection is great, the drums.cluldve easily done the faster punk/metal beat, which andols did a bit of on the first two records, and is still great.but I've always been a half time drummer which adds a lot more groove to a lot of riffs.it forces the riffs to need to be better. And I think they're more memorable for it.when the self titled albums frst track dropped on myspace, I was kinda like wtf, as the drums where just fast and i was just wanting that half time.crash cymbal
Funny you mention Opeth. I was a huge Chimaira fan for years and finally had the opportunity to go to a show when I was living in west Texas. In July of ‘05 you played Dos Amigos in Odessa, TX, a wacky place that is a bar, restaurant, rodeo arena, and concert venue all-in-one-the most TX thing ever. Opeth was at that show, and I had never even heard of them before. Since then, I’ve always mentally associated them with Chimaira because I’ve had a flyer from that show ever since. It has seen better days, but I guess we all have; that was 17 years ago. 😳 Unrelated, but I’ve played since I was a kid and didn’t know that you had an LTD sig model until your YT channel, lol. I’ve been hunting one for a few years, no luck yet! If you find one that needs a new home, lemmeknow!
Haha! Dude, for many reasons, Odessa, TX will always stick out in Chimaira's mind. Certainly a bizarre spot, doubling as a rodeo/concert stage as you mentioned. That SOTU tour was also my introduction to Opeth, though I didn't fall in love with them until years later. Good luck on your hunt for an RA-600! Let us know if you score one!
I definitely have to say, the light show at that last reunion show was amazing! The few bands before you guys had some lights and it looked perfectly fine, then that curtain got pulled away and the lights just pierced through my eyes and soul man….. in a good way. It was absolutely breath taking!!!!
Mark had the right idea to try B on those 3 Infection tracks. After 3 albums of straight C brutality, some (B)rutality was fitting in the theme of The Infection. The back to back perfection of Destroy and Dominate to Try to Survive perfectly climaxes the album before it ultimately closes with the tranquil instrumental.
I CANNOT wait for your album! Looking forward to listening and learning. You are, without a doubt, responsible for some of THE BEST riffs ever written. Thank you Rob! Much love.
Once again another great EYL Rob. Was nice to know about the B tuning and also about the lighting and about Andols saying "🥸". I've got a Question for the next EYL. And I'm hoping that no one as already asked you this yet. My Question can be answered in two parts. When you did a world tour where did you look forward to playing the most and where did you hate, but knew that you had to play. US and Europe. Ps On my group page on Facebook Chimaira fans world wide. Some have already placed there order for your solo album. And PPS Metallica have a new album out next March called 72 seasons just in case you've not heard about yet.
Salut Rob, je t'envoie de bonnes ondes de France, je kiffe tes riff et ta bonne humeur, tu es une de mes plus grandes influences quand je joue de la guitare
Haven't heard Opeth since _Blackwater Park._ Might have heard some of _Ghost Reveries..._ I don't remember....maybe I'll stop and see what they've been up to....
Meshuggah definitely plays to a click. everything is tied to it I guess including their guitar effect changes which is just awesome! their guitar tech talked about it in their rig rundown videos from a few years back. pretty cool.
Man, I love hearing you play these songs, It brings so many memories up! Do you ever just jam to the old Chimaira stuff, Sick a few drinks and just rip away??
My favorite motions you did in particular was when you used to hold your guitar up high as F in the air at a 45 degree angle and toggle from right to left at 45 degree angle while doin like left right marching with your feet , sht was insane and then you would jump and do a spin in the air lmao
Hey Rob, big fan of Chimaira since Pass Out of Existance and pretty good influence on my guitar playing, anyway. I saw Chimaira here in Kansas City back in early 2000’s. I was impressed by the tightness of the band, and mentioned it to my buddy and he went on to tell me that you guys had a running joke or punishment for flubbing their part would be to wear a pink adidas jacket at the next show. Sounds silly, but is it true? 🤙🏼

Destroy and dominate better in b for sure imo but they sound pretty cool in c. I like the drop b sound in that album, I think it fits because I’ve always felt infection was a really dark album. From the lyrics to the riffs it seemed like a darker headspace as opposed to the other albums. So cool to see them played in a different tuning.
Woa, The Disappearing Sun is in B?! Also, when the industry started switching to more digital sales once Spotify and iTunes, were a lot of bands still pushing CD sales real hard? I haven’t seen an artist release an album on CD in a freaking while
I think it's almost always an option, because there are still tons of people who want albums on CD in this genre. I doubt it's the same for I dunno, someone like Taylor Swift? But for us metalheads, there's still something special about physical CD's, and the vibe they provide!
It always fascinates me how your ears can play tricks on you. Marco monnemans drumming on Steven Wilson the raven that refused to sing,is absolutely amazing.
Those half-step differences in tunings are pretty difficult to differentiate honestly. Sounds just as good in drop C to me.
