    I've learned a lot from Dylan. I spent a lot of time recovering last year from a bunch of health issues and surgeries...Watched a lot of UA-cam videos :) I wasn't working and rode my bike back to health and better fitness I've had in years using training principles gleaned from Dylan. Backwards hat Dylan can't be overlooked as well, LOL.

    I love GCN content including all their race coverage.
    I know a lot of people pile on about them but listening to Durianrider, Hambini or Chris Horner for any period of time is mind numbing!

    • @BrianRPaterson
      @BrianRPaterson 5 місяців тому +2

      Well said. Spot on!
      No disrespect to Dylan or Roadman, but GCN covers a lot of ground, and it's informative and entertaining and not at all hard sell.
      All the unnecessary swearing and arrogant attitudes put me off Hambini and Durian Rider.
      On the flip side, the Nero Show and the Wild ones are reliably listenable. Peak Torque and China Cycling also seem pretty balanced.
      Cheers

    Dylan is great, like a journalist presenting the scientific studies as well as his own thoughts. And backwards-hat-guy is always there to keep things "real".

    Dylan is great, also because he knows what a systematic review and meta-analysis is, so he grasps the concept of "totality of evidence."

    4:02 this is absolutely true. Which is what is called researching with an n of 1. In other words, does it work for me. But the meta analysis drives it.

    Slower riders tend to be bigger , higher bmi so the bike aero savings are not only negated by their much larger body drag coefficient

      Same thing applies on getting a bike at 8kg vs 7kg. To be honest, being one of those bigger guys I would feel a little more confident with the heavier frame, as regards rigidity and power transfer.

    Had the is there much point to a gravel bike in the UK discussion with a former club colleague recently. Verdict was an emphatic no at least if not racing & just general riding. A hardtail with a dedicated extra set of wheels with skinny tyres was the recommendation. Many road frames come with decent clearance these days, so a bit of equivalent conversion with an extra set of wheels is an option. Like Dylans stuff, as an ex racer with a biological sciences background and nerdy outlook myself.

      Hard tail and a spare set of wheels for the win

    • @zoid88
      @zoid88 Рік тому +2

      I mean I see your point but some of the roads I ride are shocking. I'm not racing and rides are far more enjoyable on my gravel bike. My hard tail is too slow, and if I want to send it down the trails I'll go mountain biking.

    • @stephenbetley9596
      @stephenbetley9596 Рік тому

      @@zoid88 Agreed to a point. Road frames certainly at mid-range have evolved naturally into more of a all-rounder set up since disc brakes became the norm. Many club riders I see now are riding frames with a relaxed geometry and clearance for at least 32mm and in many cases 40mm tyres e.g. Ribble CGR. It's a matter of an additional set of wheels unless you want to go pure gravel with a 1x setup.

    what about chain wax with graphene? I got a bottle (still waiting for arrival) of a brand called Klein and I wonder if Dylan has heard about it. It allegedly helps reducing the friction of the chain, so you save watts

    I’m all for aero bars on every bike however I feel like road racing gravel racing is a group race and I think it’s dangerous because you are in a group without access to the brakes not because people can’t handle their bikes with them on it. You don’t show up to a road ride with a tri bike. I do think riding solo or doing an fkt they def make sense.

    Would you ever consider to provide a transcript?... Actually I'm quite interested in this one but 45 minutes is a huge commitment, the problem is video/podcast you can't really "skim". I could finish this one in maybe 5 minutes in general and maybe few more minutes into where I want a closer look, but it's just impossible with audio....

    Perhaps the RnD AND the marketing necessary to overcome the “SRAM makes shit chains” stigma would cost more money than producing shit chains saves.

    This single track thing is the one reason I don't find MTB races all that interesting. A race where you can't overtake others half the time just seems so nonsensical. Just make it a time trial at that point.

  • @erich8258

    That story about blocking the singletrack was cringe-inducing. I listened because I'm a Dylan fan and am training for my first gravel race. Even I know not to do that. Forcing more skilled riders to make dangerous passes is inexcusable.

    Well that sucks. I came here to hear about some informative bike stuff and what I got in the first few minutes is some conspiracy theory bs about GCN, they started out just like you but way before anyone else. they had great content grew their following and ultimately (yes I believe to the detriment of) got bought out by a big corporation. but to say that they intensionally lie is just ef''ed up. simmer down with your stupid comments. do I agree with everything GCN says? no. have I ben disappointed with some of their content? yes. but to say they straight up lie can only be perceived as envy. This is not the first time ive heard something like this for Dylan and now Anthony? no thanks
