My compliments on your channel. You have great guests and ask insightful and thoughtful questions which brings out the best in them. I’ve learned a great deal from listening to your interviews. Please keep up your amazing work.
Excellent interview as always. You really know how to make your guest comfortable to bring out their true feelings. Jay was being so diplomatic with both of his team experiences, and you didn’t push that. Very professional!!
asking him about how it feels when a teammate wins (at 40:00 ) just reminded me so much of the "ADAMMMMM" scream at this years vuelta from Vine, he was so hyped for his teammate to win, it was adorable
I must say I’m a big fan of your interviewing style. You clearly do your research a build thought provoking questions based off of that. Keep it up Anthony 👍
Fascinating listening to two really bright guys analysing the sport I've loved for over 50 years, and realising I know bugger all about it.Fantastic channel, every success going forward, thank you.
Thank you so much for the great content. Jay wasn't on my radar that much, but what a great guy! Last thing is I just do not believe one of the best riders in the world would not pedal for three weeks with a broken wrist, knowing only limited time is available for probably his A-goal this year. Totally get it that your body needs to recover, but with his CTL even easy riding on a trainer will probably not harm his recovery.
I'm sure Pogi was on the turbo trainer during those weeks but that's very different from training. It might not impact his recovery but you won't make serious gains from the training when recovering from illness or injury. The best you could hope for would be to maintain some what you have. As an example the Norwegian national cross country ski team won't take an athlete to an altitude camp if they have so much as a sniffle because that athlete simply won't make the desired adaptations so it's just a waste of time and money. The same goes for broken bones. The body puts its energy into healing over increasing fitness. I think that's what Jay is getting at. Sure he was technically sitting on a bike turning the pedals but he wasn't really "on the bike"
Cyclist Jay Vine stands out for his exceptional skills and dedication. With an unwavering passion for cycling, he consistently delivers outstanding performances. His commitment to rigorous training allows him to excel in various terrains and conditions. Jay's strategic mindset, combined with his strong physical abilities, enables him to make tactical decisions that often lead to victory. His humility and sportsmanship also make him a respected figure in the cycling community. Jay Vine's remarkable achievements and continuous growth showcase his potential to become a dominant force in the world of cycling for years to come.
He needs to work on positioning, bunch riding and not crashing. He might be physically on a top 40 level climbing, but he needs to work on his bike handeling.
He’s reflective, observant, well-spoken. Seems like a good guy I see interviews like this and think what a good example, these riders are not in fact taking drugs. Let’s hope not
A lot like Levi Leipheimer, Tyler Hamilton and Dave Zebriskie...all reflective, observant and well-spoken😅 Those traits have nothing to do with the drugs these guys take.
@@veganpotterthevegan we disagree on how articulate are the riders you mention. and agree that speaking performance is unrelated to drug taking, in fact better speakers may be better at hiding facts and thus at taking drugs
@paulsolon6229 none of these guys are scientists. They're simply told how to avoid testing positive(obviously Tyler wasn't too successful with that) and listen. And being articulate has nothing to do with their ability to listen to doctors about what and when to take whatever they were taking at a given time. *I've spoken quite a bit to all 3 of the guys I mentioned. They're definitely well spoken, albeit Dave is very odd.
He, he, easy to see why Jay's friends with LR! And he did a great job of not saying straight up that what UAE needs to improve is overall strategy and daily tactics in GTs, i.e. ride like TJV does. Will be interesting to see if they try that with the team they've got for 2024 and become the team to beat. Also, I wonder why you seemed surprised when Jay explained how TJV rode to wear down Pogi. They started to plan that approach in late 2021 and have implemented it very successfully in the TdF for two years running now. They did the same in the recent Vuelta except the opponents in that race were easier to wear down.
Would have been nice to have more information about his training plan, what level of intensity and how many hours for each levels. The title seems to say that we are going to hear about his training program or related subjects, when Jay only mentioned reducing his training hours per week. I'm still hungry for the details :)
I love so much about the kind of rider that Jay is, especially the way he includes his wife, Bri as part of the team. One of the things I struggle with, though, is how data driven he is, I think we are losing the ability to understand and trust the sensations of our body.
Thanks for the great and interesting podcast. Can you bring up the topic of nutrition for gluten-free athletes, and especially for celiacs who want to train regularly, with an emphasis on endurance athletes who need to get food on the go or take everything from home.
Si Richardson on GCN is celiac and has mentioned it on at least one video I've seen; might be worth checking their back catalog, or else putting in a request for a video.....
"it all exists in their own ecosystem" is not really an argument for AI, but a sign that simple digitisation by far isn't where it could be yet. You don't need chatGPT for basic correlation. I feel like there are so many applications where non-machine-learning-adjacent people don't realize you don't solve bad data with AI, quite the opposite actually

As Jay says here, it's not rocket science. Jumbo-Visma worked out how to wear him down over three weeks, just enough for him to not win the TdF. Helped by his own explanation of his weakness on G's podcast in late 2021. They planned accordingly and have successfully implemented their plans two years in a row now. They did the same with their opponents in the most recent Vuelta, except they were a lot easier to wear down.
