When Spider-Man first removed the symbiote he was naked. Human torch gave him a spare fantastic 4 costume with a paper bag for a mask and put a kick me sign on his back. When Pete leaves Johnny calls him the Bombastic Bagman
As a guy who had a job in men's fashion for a few years,my favorite moments in Comic books/anime are when characters dress up to the nines for Superhero Weddings or funerals for heroes. Hellfire gala deserved to be done more than once
It doesn't actually list it on the select screen but Psylocke's default costume is taken from a comic called Demon Days by Peach Momoko, which takes the Marvel characters and reimagines them into Japanese folklore and it's really cool. I highly recommend it if you like that aesthetic.
While maybe not all characters are hits, I appreciate the variety and the effort that went into really exploring different directions with each character. I also just love the fact that the story is about Dr Doom fighting for the ultimate power... Against another Dr Doom from the future, that's just percect characterizion for him
So, that's kind of Adam Warlock's whole deal, which makes me wonder if this was adapted from or pitched as one of his stories and then the broader company went "that can't be the main story; no one cares about Adam Warlock. Who's a big name who will be in one of our more important properties who we can retrofit this onto?" Adam is extremely powerful but mostly stays out of things, or wanders from place to place dealing with much smaller issues, like Star Trek, or an old knight errant tale. But his main antagonist is himself from the future after he decides he should control everything rather than let people run their own lives.
The art direction for this game just really has that comic feel which I love, sure some designs are a little much but they don’t feel like they were done out of wanting to make them look more “realistic” like the MCU has tried to do half the time, more like they’re mixing an Overwatch aesthetic with the bombastic and colorful designs from the comics, you can tell from a lot of little details in this game that the people working on the game are genuine fans of Marvel
There are so many times where I see concept art for a character that doesn't get into the final game or fan creations of costumes and this game kinda reminds me of those pieces. I love it
Everytime someone has Psylocke in their thumbnail, I am more and more tempted to play Marvel Rivals due to her[as well as Squirrel Girl]. Which is a good thing because more Psylocke is needed.
I love the Crymetina Critiques series! I enjoy anything that showcases the different designs of characters in games, and Crymetina is just a fantastic personality. She's funny, she's witty, she's smart, and the two of you play off eachother amazingly well. I would ADORE this being a much more regular series, if she were into the idea, as there are so many games with character designs I would like to hear her particular insight into.
I would absolutely love for yall to do a Season wrap-up for this game's costumes Just like, when the season ends, pull up All the new outfits and review them
Honestly they should’ve just add Lin lie as sword master instead and then had Danny rand iron fist separately I know Lin is the newest iron fist but he’s more commonly known as sword master
Both Luna Snow and Lin Lie (this game's Iron Fist) were created by NetEase themselves. They first showed up in their other huge Marvel game Marvel Future Fight. Lin Lie originally went by Sword Master before he took the Iron Fist identity just recently.
NetEase didn't make Lin lie. He was already introduced in a Manhua comic "Warriors of the Three Sovereigns" in 2018. He was then introduced to Western audiences in "War of the Realms: Agents of Atlas" the following year alongside Luna Snow.
Schrödinger's Gyat. You're welcome. Also the cool part of the Herald Thor is that the design on the front Is rune Þ from how his name would have been spelled in Norse. It's a nice touch. I didn't even realize if from seeing the costume before. Clever design.
I will say the appearance note is for every skin with a lot of them having the exact comic issue and year it appeared and for game originals they site the game itself which I think is a really great touch also I would say daggers base design in cloak and dagger evokes more dazzler which is a mutant popstar in the x-men franchise and also all the galactic skins are supposed to be connected because T'Challa has expanded the Wakandan empire into space and so like Hawkeye and Captain America have those costumes because they work with T'Challa and have the insignia of the empire on them and when it comes to space knight venom that is pretty comic accurate because he has an arc where he becomes a secret agent and then gets sent to space so he is a lot less feral and animalistic then the regular venom design
You were right about the "is she made for this game?" vibe with Luna Snow. She was an original character created for the mobile game "Marvel Future Fight" that was then later canonized into the comics through a run of "Agents of Atlas". So she is definitely a pull in terms of characters in this game.
After watching this video multiple times, only tonight did I realize something about the looks available for Spider-Man at the time of this video. From what I recall, the first iteration of "Bombastic Bag Man" outfit came about after Peter removed the symbiote with help from Reed Richards and Johnny Storm. Johnny even added a "kick me" sign to the back. A prime example of Spider-Man working with other heroes and having some light hearted fun. As for the Chasm outfit, I recall reading about it being worn not by Peter Parker himself. Rather, it was worn by Ben Reiley, his clone from the infamous Clone Saga, during a time when Ben lost a huge chunk of his memories. Enough for him to describe as "a chasm in his mind" or something like that, hence the name. Also, Ben apparently spent at least part of that time doing things typically connected to villains. This combines multiple problems that plague Spider-Man stories. Needless suffering for Spider-Man and those close to him. Drastic changes in how characters act. Characters not remembering things that matter. Revisiting characters and stories from the Clone Saga. And so on. And so forth. And since "Spider-Man No Way Home" revisits characters and stories from past movies, that makes it, and by extension the inbgame look based on it, an incredibly fitting representation of Spider-Man outside of comics. It is AMAZING how much Spider-Man history is represented in just these 3 alternate looks.
I never understood why they make Cap armored like an Autobot in games like these or Marvel's Avengers, his shield is his primary protection which makes him throwing it away to attack comes with a risk and make his fights more tense.
I got this game just for Squirrel Girl, I was a huge fan of the Unbeatable series it was the only Marvel comic series I ever read. I was really bummed when I saw her Rival design, I loved the squirrel-themed Batman's Robin outfit. I never thought of SG as a thick lady she always looked pretty slim! Must be some things from like West Coast Avengers that I missed. Hoping we get a skin that lines up more with her Unbeatable appearance, would be super hyped to see that design 3d'd!
1:37:55 I believe the asymmetrical thing is supposed to be in the shape of the Thorn Rune (this letter þ), which correlates with the English "th-", meaning this costume is the equivalent of him walking around with the first letter of his name branded really big on his chest.
This convince me to play Marvel Rivals. And holy crap, Penni Parker is my girl! Gonna play her until they change her so much my playstyle (shoot webs, stand in webs, be a tank) stops working.
@misterjersey5460 Strider Hiryu was never a Capcom character. He's licensed from a comic book publisher. And I got the name wrong, it's Moto Kikaku, and Psyloke predates both!
Always happy to see a new Crymentina Critiques!! The green mecha suit for Peni Parker looks more like a Green Goblin mecha now that I looked better at it haha

Great video, you two! I feel like the unique, stark qualities of Namor the Sub-Mariner's original design can be partly attributed to the era that he comes from. A lotta wild stuff went on in the "Golden Age" of comics because of course nothing had been codified yet. I feel like a lot of people assume this but the stories are just so great to read and see. The Spectre would grow giant and crumple a car full of criminals like paper and throw them away, crushing them; this power is never mentioned again. Batman would just shoot people with a gun because editorial had not yet decided that kids were reading and they should have someone maybe different to look up to. Wild West. As far as I understand, most of the comics publishers back then were run by gangsters because comic books were so disreputable.
The Mister Knight costume is a mess. The cape is really obvious mistake, but also the fact that it's two tone and the gold highlights. What made the original Mr Knight suit so iconic was that it was pure white. In a comic with a noir colouring and heavy shadows it was a statement. A figure of pure white that comes for you. By the end of the issue that introduced it hardened criminals ran in terror when they saw him walking towards them. It was the opposite of Batman. You will see him coming and you will run.
When Spider-Man first removed the symbiote he was naked. Human torch gave him a spare fantastic 4 costume with a paper bag for a mask and put a kick me sign on his back. When Pete leaves Johnny calls him the Bombastic Bagman
It also implies that the symbiote eats underwear...or that Peter goes commando. Either is concerning
I just doublechecked the page (ASM #258, Nov 1984) and they did draw him still wearing his boxers after Reed and Johnny got the symbiote off him.
@@JonathanScratchIt's confirmed he goes commando.
@@JonathanScratchin one of the later comics it's said he goes commando
They should have added naked Spider-Man
So, if y'all ever want to tackle comics from a fashion perspective, there's always the Hellfire Gala stuff.
Omg yes that'd be a fun video!
Honestly a super awesome idea. They'd have a few years to pull from, and the designs are really interesting.
YES
Hellfire gala fucking slaps dude. Looks so amazing.

Peach Momoko the GOAT
@VibesMurderer heck yeah!
This is that comic’s Psylocke too actually.
THANK YOU, I kept seeing people say "Demon Days" and I couldn't figure out the connection between that outfit and the Gorillaz album 😂
"Psylocke"
*Matt's heavy breathing*
Took the words right out of my mouth!😂
You can tell that the devs are huge 2099 fans, and I really appreciate the attention to detail in that regard, as well as the artstyle as a whole.
Crymetina videos are always a nice surprise (and her reaction to Jeff the Land Shark was priceless).
We love Jeff! Who doesn't love Jeff? Icon, legend, the moment, a star!

I am here after watching Kinkymation, Maximilian Dood and TBSkyen opinions about this game's characters design.
Glad I'm not the only one
So far Kinkymations had the best input, let’s see how this vid goes!
Don’t know TBSkyen. 🤔
He has mostly done characters / skin design analysis on his several channels. The Marvel Rival's one was on 3BSkyen.
@@Tizjiz
Skyen is awesome! @@Tizjiz
I'm also here after watching the first two, never heard of TBSkyen. Might look into them if anyone has any input on what they're about?
Fun fact about Jeff the Landshark. He's been bonded with a Venom symbiote to look like an Orca. It looks amazing
I’m surprised with how many “meh’s” there are; I feel like most of these designs are complete wins with a handful of meh’s here and there
It’s Jeff is a free, textless comic series, starring Jeff, and it is adorable.

They just made everyone a league of legends character
Well, the MCU is live action so they kinds have to go for more "realisstic" or it looks ridiculous.
Animation has more creative freedom
Oh, Jeff has an endless amount of potential costumes (Gwen Pool, Banana, cake, etc.)

Everytime someone has Psylocke in their thumbnail, I am more and more tempted to play Marvel Rivals due to her[as well as Squirrel Girl]. Which is a good thing because more Psylocke is needed.
Squirrel Girl's design is definitely inspired.
Superior Iron Man’s armor was dope. It was essentially an artificial symbiote so he could control it remotely and it could hulk out.
Quick fun fact for the base Magneto skin, the symbol on his cape is Krakoan for the letter M, because Daddy Magneto is really that vain.
The real question is it M for Magneto or M for Mutant
Luna Snow wasn’t made for this game, but she was made for a game, Marvel Future Fight, but she has since been worked into the comics as well.
I feel for Crymetina. I even played overwatch competitively as part of the inaugural Esports team at my college

Am I wrong or all of Penni Parker's mecha colors are Evangelion references? With the main one being Asuka's?
In the comics Penni is basically a female Shinji with Asuka's Eva unit.
The Peni comics are pretty much directly inspired by Eva. But somehow more dangerous to pilot, in the Venom mech's case...
"Mohawk and Toebeanz" sounds like a 90's Sonic esque platformer.
