0:55 Da fuck dude. D: I'm a gamer and I wouldn't say I'm a genius but I'm certainly not dumb. Besides, the science says that video games help develop cognitive abilities, including problem solving, reasoning, and creative thinking plus better hand-eye coordination. I saw someone in the air force command say the best pilots are gamers. XD
Science doesn't say that at all, at least not any study I've ever read. It really depends on the game for whether it will give you any real benefit to playing it and even then it depends how you play it. Take Minecraft for example, sure it can boost your creativity but that's only if your exercising creativity. If all you do while playing is create copies of what other people have done, which I would like to point out is most players then you aren't exercising anything more than the muscles in your fingers. If your coming up with your own style of builds then yeah, you probably are exercising your creativity. If your building up fancy machines without entirely copying others ideas then your likely exercising your problem solving and logical thinking abilities. The reason why gamers tend to make good pilots isn't as much that they are gamers in that they are familiar with keeping track of multiple variables and manipulating multiple controls at the same time. Again this can't be said for every game or every gamer. None of this translates into being a genius. If your what most would consider a genius, that is someone whom has a tendency to think outside the box and come up with unorthodox solutions to seemingly difficult problems. Chances are you'll be a genius in video games as well. The only way to really exercise that is to keep solving problems with as few resources as possible, be it in a video game or not.
Most of the newer games actually dumb down people more than help in anything. There are some good online strategic games but you need good players to achieve anything which is hard to find so I say fuck it. I stick mostly with older games for example from the PS1 and PS2 era. The only game that actually helps is Tetris and good RPGs.
Alan Hunter Tired and lazy atm, but as an overview en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game#Behavioral_effects although most of the articles and studies I've read were on Psychology Today or online journals.
All these gamers getting so salty at one offhand comment Spider made. 😆 Not everyone thinks video games are amazing guys, get over it. Also, just because you haven’t been paying attention to Spider or his band lately doesn’t mean he’s washed up. No one who can make a living doing music for 30 years is a failure. I saw Powerman on tour recently and they were damn good, not to mention riding in what looked like a $100k tour bus. Guy’s doing just fine.

Been in several bands and while being in a band in and of itself does not destroy braincells I can safely say that touring does... Especially when you're trying ot make a name for yourself, I remember some nights we would start playing a little gig at a rundown bar around 2pm and then finish doing our set there tear down get paid, go to next gig that starts in 45 mins on the other side of town, rinse and repeat and if you have time try to find something to drink or eat.... I won't say I would want to do that all over again but I would lie if I told anyone I wasn't having the time of my life.
