Every time I watch your teachings, the more and more you sound like a textbook that you ought to be writing because you explain as though people don’t know anything which I think is the way should be.

Thank you so much. Having a variety of students come to class really helps me see the things I would normally gloss over because of my experience. They point out small details that I take for granted.

This the best tutorial I have seen for adjusting the low limit screw. Most videos do not explain the reasoning behind the moves and although they work, they leave a novice mechanic puzzling through the steps. Winding the low level screw all the way in before you start is important, yet the other videos don't even mention this, they are vague and rather hit & miss. This might be obvious to some, but not others (like me). Great video, I subscribed!

The main reason for gears failing to index is cable tension. They’re has been no mention of checking this first and foremost, before tinkering with the limit screw.

Great VId but where to next? Not sure how or when to tighten up cable again. Thankyou

When you say "unloosen", that means tighten. I think you mean to say loosen, no?

Sorry for the confusion. When unscrewing the the L screw it is creating more space for the derailleur to move. In this case the derailleur would move into the spokes.

What do you do with the cable you released in the beginning?

Without going back to watch the video. I may have pulled tention with finger tips and tightened at the pinch bolt. Deore doing that confirm the chain and derailleur are in the very last gear. They need to be on the same page.

Hey, watching this top learn about adjusting my derailleur, when you are showing how to push derailleur manually you say you are pushing on the pivot point, the pivot point is actually where your pointing finger is located not the point where you press it down (that is the lever). The pivot point is the point the lever arm (in this case the body of the derailleur is rotating or pivoting around), which is under your pointing finger. Some very good info for a cycle newbie though!
