When I don't know what to sculpt, one of my favorite things to do is clay sketching. Clay sketching is a fun way to get out of your comfort zone and explore some things you typically may not have when making a well thought out, pre-planned sculpture. I just grabbed some clay, and let it tell me what to do. Watch me sculpt three characters starting with their armature, all the way down to the painting stage.

That was fun! Let me know what you think of these guys 😊
Check me out on TikTok @aceofclay
Amazing vid man!!!!
For the third bust, how about Mr. Moisty? (UGH EWW)
I think the last one should be called Mr Selfie lol
I loved the last one so much !!! What if you name him Mr.Sunshine. Doesn’t really creep you out but it kind of creeps you out when you actually see him 🤷♀️
I would love if you would make sprinkles full body 🤡
I loved that we took a carnival ride into your head and were treated to 3 such different characters. Each was creepy in very different ways. Thank you. I hope that you do create Sprinkles as a full body sculpture especially since you teased the purple shirt.
I love those sketches……. A full body version of the clown would make a fun sculpture for the future. Maybe you could add a creepy poodle dog with it?
Ooh, I like the idea of character sketches in clay! I hope you will do them from time to time. I'm glad you had fun, too.
I like the name Mr. Hugs, or Dr. Hugs for the toothy one with the double chin. Or Professor Hugs! I wouldn't mind seeing a full body sculpture of him.
As always, loving your content.
He is sort if egg shaped, so I would name him Mr Eggbert Overbite.
I love these quirky little guys! I think the first one looks like an undertaker and i think you should call the last one Goober, his tombstone teeth are great
The clown is definitely the most unnerving😅
The third sculpture gives some vibes from the Terrifier movie with that creepy laugh. 😱
I think you’re talented and I love the sculpture
Can't wait for Sprinkles the Clown's full sculpture...😍😍😍
I definitely like "Mr. Hugs" for the last character. Very uncomfortable. Also, I laughed like a two year old when you initially said it was like when you accidentally open your front facing camera, because I've been there all too often!
I'm very new to sculpting and to searching for helpful channels so this may not mean much, but I wanna say this is the most inspiring channel I've found so far. Especially the way you both underline how something can just spring from the imagination and become, in a sense, real, and how many of the videos posted are of original, fun, zany, inspiring works. I like a meticulously sculpted Wolverine replica as much as the next... person with my interests... but it's a real rush to see videos that make your mind race in eight different directions toward things you yourself want to dream up and make real.
Keep up the great work!
In case anyone sees this and feels up to answering a few questions that have popped up for me. :O
1. The silicone brushes I use have a tendency to "crumble" the clay (I use Super Sculpey Medium) instead of smearing it. Can I do something to mitigate that?
2. Can anybody link me to a video, or give some quick pointers, about baking a sculpture in steps. What to think about, what not to worry about :D I can't seem to find any information about whether there's risk of cracking the already baked parts when baking them again with new, unbaked sections.
@@SimonM7TV I make clay earrings, not sculptures, (I use Sculpey III and Sculpey Premo) but in my experience:
1. Your clay is probably too hard and brittle, which makes me think its not conditioned fully. Try warming it up with your hands, running it through a pasta machine multiple times, or using a liquid clay softening product. If all that fails, maybe try a softer clay. I’m sure theres a lot of information online on the best polymer clays for sculpting.
2. I have baked my pieces 2-5 times and have never had an issue. I bet I could bake it more that that. Just make sure it fully cools and sets in between, and I think you could bake an unlimited amount of times. As with all things, do a test piece of your clay, and see how many times you can add things and if anything cracks. Clays can vary, and I don’t really do anything big or thick.
Hope this helps, even though I do a different craft!
@@mckennariggins Thank you for your reply! And yes it's very helpful! ☺ It's great to hear that I needn't worry too much about baking something over and over. I started a sculpture yesterday that I baked after adding a first layer of clay onto the armature, so your reply gives me extra confidence for the next bake! :D
As for the clay crumbling, I had better luck with the first figure I made in this regard, and now that you mention it, maybe I did condition the clay more before starting that one than I have with subsequent pieces. I'll be sure to really go to town on the next chunks and see if that helps. :D
My little brain couldn't even begin to conceive of the design let alone implement it. Crazy mad skills! Aceis one of the most skilled artist so far I have seen on the internet!!
I have a seamstress plush. I love it! She looks so much like your sculpture. I would love to see sprinkles as a full sculpture complete with clowny clothing!
The third one is a lot reminiscing from the masks of the game of "My Beautiful Paper Smile" which is a horror game with similar vibes and visuals. Both the game and your sculpture are creepy in the right way, great job!
This is such a cool idea
Would love to see more of this!
Two names I thought of for the last one is 'Giggles' or 'Cheshire' (like the cat). I hope to see more bust trios like this, it was cool.
I love these! Would definitely like to see you do this again.
The 'old man' gives off Alfred vibes, so I do think he's a butler & Sprinkles has the killer clown vibes going on. As for 'The Smiler', he's too creepy too creepy to be you but could be a reflection of your inner thoughts in some weird other-dimension mirror XD
This looks like a really fun exercise. Also, Mr. Hugs is the best name ever. Well done!
Really enjoyed you making the busts. Great characters.
You know what these remind me of? The busts from Disney’s Haunted Mansion, but more creepy!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love ur vids
They look so cool, my favourite is the one with yellow eye
I liked the last one with the egg head the most, while Sprinkles was the nastiest. Good as always.
I LOVE the clown mini sculpture so much
Edit: PLEASE MAKE A FULL SCULPTURE OF SPRINKLES!!
Edit 2: name the last character Mr.Noodles!!!
I love them. I love watching your videos, I find listening to you very relaxing. I don't know anything about sculping but I still enjoy them a lot. Thank you.
I love the clown and the positioning of his eyes. Love your work
The old man is giving me John Lithgow vibes. Great video, I could watch you sculpt all day (except for clowns, I had to look away then).
18:10 I like this more chilled out music.
Ooo. I would to see your version of a Axolotl
I love this video. Could we please full body sculps of Sprinkles and the old man?
i looked away, and looked back, saw a plush, got excited, and then realized: the raccoon guide. my favorite one. I PRAY I CAN BUY IT WHEN IT INEVITABLY EXCISTS
They look like they could be the same person just three different sides to them. The dead old man being the side he shows to the outside world.
Love your character back story x
Last character should be named “Mr. Grin”! Great work as always 😊
I don't know why, but "Mr. Grins" immediately came to mind for the third guy.
The only thing I wish was different was if you'd fashioned a foam ball nose out of clay for Sprinkles, but then picked chunks away from it so it looked ripped up and old and ruined.
I'd love to see a full body sculpt and little set for the zombie butler guy. He's the one that interests me the most.
I love the busts. They have a more human look to them. 😃😃👋👋💖💖
The phone camera comment had me laughing, then I pictured number three as a photographer from the past. I can see him creepily peeking out from behind the cloth that the old camera stands used.
I’m thinking “Mister Oozy” for sculpt #3…? Love your videos and watching your talent unfold!
Hi Ace of Clay, have you ever thought about making a coloring book out of your mutant series? I'm an adult colorist and I love coloring horror books and I'd love to see what I could do with your creations. Not sure if you've ever thought about going that route, but you might want to consider. If you ever do, I'd most certainly purchase. 😊😊🤗🤗
Love them all! You definitely need to do a full sculpt of sprinkles. The last one looks like he is going to steal my teeth. So I was thinking Mr. Teeths for a name 😅
those are really cool being off the top of the head, do more please
I love all of these!!!! 100% we need all 3 as full sculpts but if ur only planning one it has to be that creepy arse clown!
Imagine the story for this bunch is they are a traveling gang that lives in the mutant world.
Just the right shape and size for horrifying dolls.... Wonderful work as always 😃
The last head he looks like a neckbeard when they find a m’lady, the grown up version of Barrel from Nightmare Before Christmas, or what I imagine the Grinch would look like he someone shaved him.
Creative work really appreciated 👍. Keep sculpturing
So cool!!!
More monster busts. Helps concentrate techniques for faces
Have you tried using saran wrap when texturing the clay? You don't end up pulling the little clay balls :)
I just bet with that imagination you have...you were a Amazing Child....thank you for what you do...👍‼
The first guy sort of reminded me of a certain president. The clown was creepy but the last guy made me think of the smiling emoji if it looked realistic
Great video! I like that you don't have to sculpt the figure to get some creative inspiration.
Well done they turned out great 👍You should definitely do more clowns, got killer clowns from outer space vibes from that one.
Love this! Keep em coming
name suggestion for the third bust... Dr. Scronch
You always make this looks SO easy! :-) I love watching you sculpt. Much like my singing, I have grand visions in my head that I'm much better than I am outside of my head. hahaha
I love watching your videos , been a big fan for over a year now. I have a suggestion for ya. How about bono and little devil and or the judge from the movie “nothin but trouble”
Mass Murder Museum. Rickles, Horatio Umberbatch, Jules Cranson. all name made up but, I think they fit, mix an match.
I’m not into monsters but I love your work, such talent ❤
I think the last guys name should be "Silly Billy." idk why, but that name with that face makes me feel creeped out
Luther Smiles creeps me out!
These are wonderful sculpts. I'm so glad I found this channel, really. Great work.
Ace, do you like to watch horror films for inspiration and ideas? Or do these characters come into your head fully formed and ready to go? Do you sketch out the creations before you actually start making the armature? Excuse the questions, but I just wondered how your normal process goes, and where your ideas and inspiration comes from. God bless you and all those you love. Have a lovely weekend!
Great work to get 3 characters that fulfil the same basic concept (creepy head) and still be 3 separate individuals!
Maybe the last one could be named Mini Me? Because I know for certain that's exactly how I look as well!
woah awesome these would be cool as halloween decorations
It took me a year or so to realise the songs you use in your vids are west and zander autumn haze and 91nova darko
I would call #3 Wacky! They are all awesome
It's always fun to watch you sculpt.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force : Master Shake "his name is Mr. Sprinkles, and he is NOT TO BE TOUCHED!!!!"
The cat in the microwave scene is immediately what came to mind with the future cat's name was going to be Mr. Sprinkles.
Do more if the mutant universe
Any tips for new sculptures?
Wow these guys are so creepy! and very well sculpted. could the zombie old man be a revenant?
You are so underrated you deserve more subscribers
These guys are super creepy! I think a good name for the last one would be "Grimace". You have an amazing imagination!
I loved that you sculpted me 😬
The first one looks exactly like some people I've seen 😅😅
The second is great but I don't like clowns 😖
What kind of character will you be making for the mutants universe next?
I thought of a great character for you to do Nebbercracker from Monster House. Amazing sculptures
The first one reminded me of Mr. Joker in Batman. Wonder how Queen Elizabeth I would look like. Can you do her?
Very cool. I love your characters. I really liked both of the alien characters you made last year. Will we be seeing more from the mutant universe? I'm afraid I'm not at all fond of clowns. Blame Pennywise (1990 version! Tim Curry was brilliant.) But a name popped into my head as you were sculpting the toothy guy. How about Brother Smiley?
Make a whole mr sprinkles pls!!
How about the name "Lord Cheerio" ? He looks very happy!...in a creepy way 😆
Giggles seems like a good name for the toothy guy
These are really fun and gruesome. Mr Cheese comes to mind for the last one.
I'd love to see you make one of my sculptures in your style
I think for the last guy, I vote for the basic name of Mr. Smiles.
"Leery"?
It'd be a nice little play-on-words;
he's someone you should be leery of (beware), and he's always leering. :}
I'd name that last one Schnookums
They look awesome I would name him Mr. Smiley.
Love your videos! Would you please add your total sculpting times to the end of your videos again? I get so frustrated when it takes me a week to finish a project... seeing that it takes someone I admire a while to make amazing pieces is a great reminder.
I would love it if it only took me a week to do a sculpture lol!
I don’t know if you already have plans for the clown but I had an idea that in the mutant universe he was a human but he is a psychopathic killer that praises the mutants like their gods or something similar but it’s just an Idea. Also I love your work
You should so call him Twinkle. They look great 👍
I'm curious: does Sprinkles the Clown work with the Ice Cream Man and his sister?
That last one looks like Sarcasm if it was a person.
🤣🤣🤣
Chuckles or maybe Mr. Cackle
For some reason, when I saw that last sculpt, The Altruist popped into my head, and I have zero reason for it. Irony maybe?
I know what you mean by having the camera facing you I have several of those pictures on accident.
A good name for me Ace of smiles
You talking about a zombie old man while my husband listens to the haunted mansion sound track isn't creepy at all!!!🤣🤣🤣
First guy kinda looks like Wilson from bendy and the ink machine
Clowns don't usually give me the creeps, but Sprinkles..... Ugh!
Well done, as usual!
Names for #3:
Smiles for Miles
Cuddles
Glib
Lug
Would be awesome if you could make a rat and a scorpion 😃
