I agree. But it would be even cooler if it related to the original figure rather than just being a replacement for the foil. For example a terrible figure of say a horse, become an epic figure of flying demon horse. A "cute" dog becomes a mighty wolf. You get the idea.

Sometimes when you're starting a new sculpture, it helps to ask "what emotional reaction do I want to get out of people who look at the finished piece?" Like, terrified, adoring, cautious, curious. Then every decision you make as you move forward can be evaluated against that intention...does the third eye make people feel it's adorable, do the teeth make people horrified, etc.

I like pretty much all the stuff you do original sculpts, fan art, wheel of sculpt, sculpt this, thrift store transformations, the whole shebang. I do prefer when there's a good mix of everything. When there's weeks and weeks of the same category in a row I kind of get burned out but if there's one or two weeks of this and one or two of that and then this other thing it keeps everything exciting. I love seeing the thought process behind your pieces and getting a glimpse into the ideas, symbolism, design principles and imagination you have and then the finished pieces and detailed characters which always result in a satisfying end product. I've always sealed wearable stuff with mica powder, but if it's a sculpture at most it might get dusty. There's an AMAZING spray called PYMII that was compatible with polymer clay (one of the few aerosol sprays). It works beautifully. I always saw it as a spray-fix kind of sealer, not a heavy crystal resin coat kind of spray.. The bad news is that the owners retired and they haven't been able to secure someone to take it over so it's no longer being manufactured. Womp Womp... I still have my one can I use sparingly. It smells like the finishing spray on matte painted ceramics.

To get the epoxy sculpt off of your pasta roller, you can take some finer grit sandpaper (not enough that could scratch the metal) and slowly rotate the crank, lightly sanding the surface of the roller, getting the epoxy off. Hope this helps!!

I like your original sculptures. I like your story telling. I like you showing who you are and you speaking out your creative thoughts. I'm an old lady now but I am also an old sculptor and illustrator, I have learned that your authentic voice is hard but also where you win as an artist. You have been blessed with an artists heart and ability. If teaching is part of you then show that. I think all the fan art stuff, you should do when you are drained out of your own need to express your stories and characters. There will always people who want you to be someone else. Be you. You are very good at what you do.

everything you do is fascinating to me...I don't really have a preference. It just shows your versatility, and gives us novices different ideas of how we can proceed ourselves. Not all of us are good at coming up with something in our heads, so reconfiguring a thrift item is really cool idea to get the juices flowing. Showing how to do from fan art is another avenue that a novice can try out if they can't come up with something themselves. It's all good in my book! Love it all!

I really enjoy this format. The video is longer which means we get more shots of you working and more raw content from you as a person. Watching and hearing you go through your thought process really puts your sculptures in to perspective in terms of time and creative effort. I really love the videos of you turning other peoples drawings into sculptures and your originals that also have some sort of challenge in the prompt even if it isn't a full randomized prompt (sometimes those turn out weird).

To answer your question in the video: I like your original pieces better than fan art; and in either format (OG or casual), I like when you explain your thought process. It's always good to hear from other people that they go through the same stages of not knowing how to get where you want with it, to its starting to come together, to "oh, it turned out really good!" or "I shouldn't have done it that way".

These are great! A tip on the mica powders: if you apply them, gently, to the unbaked clay, the powder will adhere to the clay during baking. Use a soft brush and gently burnish them onto the clay.
I haven't worked with poly clay for ages, but I did use various powders on the unbaked clay with no problems. It works very well for shading skin tones, which is what you were doing with these aliens. Try it out on a sample and see how it works for you

I like the thrift store transformation videos best. My all time favourite video you’ve made is when you sculpted yourself as a Tim Burton character because it’s a perfect balance between your original characters & your fanart. You can use Mr. SuperClear to seal mica powders on an object but be careful to wear a mask when spraying it because it’s toxic (but so are a lot of art supplies) & it doesn’t remain sticky at all

You are a great teacher and we’re all lucky to have you.
This year I’ve been blessed, my life long dream of teaching art came true!
I’m teaching kindergarten thru 3rd grade. We tried a little of everything, clay week was crazy with our COVID procedures but the kids had fun and I survived ceramics from a cart.
Thank you for all you inspiration and advice to just keep going to the finish!

Should use Mr. Super Clear sprays to finish them so the colors don't come off or fade. Lots of doll makers use it to keep pencil colors, powder colors and other kinds on the dolls without moving.

  • @VickiBowers

Way cool! I love this evolution in your work. I also love adding mica powders to polymer clay. You posed the question in the video, “how to remove mica powder if you feel you’ve gotten too much.” I keep a little supply of isopropyl alcohol in a little spray bottle, and some cotton swabs handy. For a project like this, I would spray a little puddle of alcohol on the tile or a piece of glass; dip the swab in the alcohol and use that to remove the powder from the area in question.
As to the mica powder rubbing off afterward, I might give it a light spray of an acrylic sealer topcoat, just to sort of tack it all down.
This was way fun to watch! Hope you do more of these!

I definitely enjoy your original sculpts. It's enjoyable to see various monsters etc translated into your unique style. That being said I also really enjoy when you do new styles and themes like this video. Sci-fi is a really cool genre and considering how it can also overlap a bit with horror I think it's a pretty easy one to branch into.
Mainly I find it enjoyable to watch an artist, such as yourself, grow and change over time. We live in unique times where we have that opportunity through videos like yours and it's fascinating to see and be able to come along for the ride. I think as long as you're enjoying yourself your videos will be fun to watch.
