@@devon8438 In most cases I would agree with you. Filmmakers tend to tweak their films so they'll appeal to a mass audience; after all, they need the revenue, and the only way to make money is to create a movie that people will want to watch. Nevertheless, given the popularity of the character created by Robert E. Howard, I don't think Conan's "original personality" would have been an issue at all on the big screen. Robert E. Howard's character has a certain psyche, charisma, and magnetism that intrigues and fascinates. This is why the original Conan stories were so popular; and because of their popularity, this is also why there are "Conan" comic books, and "Conan" movies. Unfortunately, the "Conan" character depicted in the comics and the films is a far cry from Robert E. Howard's creation. Fortunately for the filmmakers, "Conan the Barbarian" was a well-liked, successful movie. Even though the "Conan" in the movie scarcely resembles Robert E. Howard's character, the creators of the film somehow managed to pull off their reinvention. I, for one, despised the movie; I thought it sucked. Then again, I'm an ardent Robert E. Howard fan, and a Conan purist. I believe if the filmmakers kept with the original stories and perfectly mimicked the original Conan, the film might have been phenomenal. What burns my ass the most is this: when most people think of Conan the barbarian, they think of this fugging movie. The filmmakers eschewed Howard's Conan, and invented their own lame version of the character, a version in which most people are familiar. That's just wrong.
The film is pure class from beginning to end and the music in it is sensational . It is one of those rare films that you don't want to end , that's how good it is!
The first person who showed love to him since he was a boy. These 2 had great chemistry. They did not bump and grind, having sex, they became lovers and showed their love. She was capable of taking care of herself, to be respected, she deserved it and she gave that to him. A beautiful, smart, capable woman she is, absent is the need to brow beat or dominate him. That is lost on the moronic films of now.
Valeria is like the vision of partnership, companionship, bravery, unconditional love and sacrifice. She's depicted almost like Athena towards the end, that's what she represents to Conan
Not only that but sex scene aren’t even necessary in movies. Never have been. I always wondered if directors HAVE to include it or something.. like in the fine print. That to me cheapens and movie, and caters to low IQ individuals who only think about one thing.
While Seth is a common spelling today, I believe that in the Conanverse, Set is usually the name of the god there (though I do believe it's not exclusively used)

Valaria was a bad ass 👍
Yep you read my mind here every straight dude needs a woman like her in there lives.
The movie is underestimated because of Schwarzenegger but this movie is a master piece, epic among epic movies.
This moment was so perfect..."you" brought tears to my eyes.
She was a Valkyrie.
she was a believable badass chic no forced sjw woke shit
Valeria is like the vision of partnership, companionship, bravery, unconditional love and sacrifice. She's depicted almost like Athena towards the end, that's what she represents to Conan
Ever since I first saw this movie I have looked for a Valeria. I have always been disappointed….
Not only that but sex scene aren’t even necessary in movies. Never have been. I always wondered if directors HAVE to include it or something.. like in the fine print. That to me cheapens and movie, and caters to low IQ individuals who only think about one thing.
That fucking glint of the necklace when Valeria squares up against those guards at the end is sick
Both Conan movies are the biggest love of my cinematic life, and one massive reason for that is Basil Poledouris, RIP.
While Seth is a common spelling today, I believe that in the Conanverse, Set is usually the name of the god there (though I do believe it's not exclusively used)
@@qwertyui622 You are correct. It is written Set without the "h". My apologies to the editor of this clip.
Those 2 opponents were iconic, just as strong & tough as Conan, esp. Thorgrim with his giant hammer, I love the brutality, as well as the humour when he doesn't believe he knocked off the pillar.
Amazing movie, and the music is truly epic.
"You...!" is such a simple yet badass line.
Nowadays, the line would be "Hey....it's that same guy as before, remember?" Then there'd be a flashback to remind the audience.
That's not _badass._ A badass line would be closer to "You came here for the king's daughter. But I came here for a meal. You'll do."
Exactly
No, it's just simple; they didn't want to give the "actors" in this crappy movie too many lines. Simple minds enjoy simple lines, I reckon.
And brilliantly delivered with such venom.
I love how the gem flashes on Valeria when she's tapping her sword at the two guys...
This movie IS a masterpiece.i Saw it when i was eight years old.been a Conan fan since.
Utterly outrageous fun. Bet the cast had a blast making this. My heart belongs to Valeria
"HUGE" fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I gotta' say that whether Arnold, the plethora of actors, cast and crews, writers, extras, stand in's, producers, directors, etc's, etc's, whether these ppl know it or not, Conan The Barbarian, IS a masterful piece of filmwork. Plot, settings, music. Legendary.
💯Kudos. Job, WELL DONE💯
This is less than 5 minutes and it's better than all the marvel movies.
I want to like this comment 10k times. I'm so glad this movie is getting the recognition it deserves
Fuck yeah
Love the score. Rivals anything put out over the past half century, easily.
The whole set looks straight out of a Frank Frazetta painting.
For all we know, Dino delarantis may have had Frank Frazetta as a consultant.
Milius was a Frazetta fan - he mentions it in the Conan documentary.
Golden Axe in film form too
Back when they weren’t afraid to show kids a little blood. One of my childhood faves👍
Technically you weren't supposed to be seeing it. It was rated R.
But the same applies to me, so... ;)
Thats because this movie is rated R to start with and for good reason, the 80s was a crazy time but i miss those things you are talkign about!!
Hello from India 🇮🇳.
The film will Never get old. It is always as Fresh as it used to be...despite lack of modern technology, it is Captivating...
This whole sequence imprinted on me as a kid. I don't know how many times we re-enacted this scene as kids.
1:15 Valeria kicking ass
1:26 Subotai going full ninja
1:44 Conan gratuitous weapon brandish "I finally get to use this move!"
"Shut it, bitch!" 2:00
And my favorite, 4:10 Valeria covering the retreat.
*tap* *tap* *tap* at 4:30
Conan the barbarian, Robocop, Blade Runner, Angel Heart, The wild bunch, Midnight Express, Apocalypse Now, Cruising, The silence of the lambs, Apocalypto, Predator, Se7en, Shining... JUST MASTERPIECES!
Even today with all the CGI-infested flicks, i still always come back to the 80 and 90s for such movies with practical effects and so much heart.
Loved this movie when it came out, had the biggest crush on Sandahl Bergman.
Yeah she is pretty hot in this movie.
Better than any other comic book movie. Not even a close second.
You ever thought to read the original books by the writer who created Conan in the 1930's? No? I didn't thinks so; because if you did, you would despise this fugging movie.
@@Eadbhard 2 different beasts. You can't do a 1 to 1 book to film. Safe to say this adaptation is high art and captures everything that we love about this universe. I grew up on the comics from the 70s/80s. The movie was 10-fold the impact of the comics and the comics are legend.
People complaining about Conan being MK1, then you watch the movie and realize Conan and his friends fit perfectly into the game. Conan could quite literally 1v1 anyone in the game, even Shao, and hold his own. This movie is legendary, Conan is legendary.
This movie is more d&d than d&d itself
The score in this movie is as great as it gets.. 👌
Seriously the music is brilliant in a underated good movie
One of the best movie scenes of all time.
Subotai going ham at 2:32, he is so smooth with them cuts.
Que escena más poderosa.. esto no se puede igualar y menos mejorar.
Es una genialidad..
“Big Ben” Davidson had two lines in this whole movie and they’re in this one scene:
1) “Get Them!”
2) “You.”
More than that. Third is when he says "Kill them" when Conan and company steal eye of the serpent from the temple. Possibly a fourth, he sounds like the one who says "Infidel!" when Conan is captured, but it's off screen so this is less than certain.
The lack of dialogue with some of the main characters is definitely both bizarre for a modern action movie and a brilliant choice film making choice, all things considered.
Villains have no need for words......
He speaks during the raid on Conan's village. "Kill that one!" and "Thorgrim, crush him!"
@@funnnelweb1 and before that he mumbles something as he swings his sword just before we see Conan's dad killing some fuckers
@@pcarlisi yes, you are right. He did say “Kill Them!” When the eye of the serpent was stolen.
"You"
Nothing else needs to be said to make this entire scene fvkn amazing!!
With the music playing as Conan stretches his muscles out with his sword in hand…Epic scene💪🏻
Greatest soundtrack of all time.
Greatest Fantasy Action Set Piece of All Time!!!
This is an awesome movie. Very well done. The music perfectly fits this movie. The actors, especially Arnold, James Earl Jones was also great in this movie.
The way he holds the sword after Rexor says “you “, the way he breaths… it’s like he is saying “ I am back and now I will crush you”! What a scene…!!!
Valeria IS the ONLY Woman Warrior that could stand by her man Conan the Barbarian lovers to the end and beyond .... Thanks dad for taking me to see this great movie .
I agree. I didn’t want her to die😢🪽
Just glorious. Carnage. Brutality. Minimal but meaningful dialogue - “you!” And my favorite score of all time. Just utter perfection. Chef’s kiss!
When godly actors were still kicking...and no CGI. 💯
This movie is a masterpiece because there is simplicity to it- nothing is overdone. No bad special effect magic.
Big outdoor locations (including some BIG set pieces) an epic Basil Poledouris soundtrack, and the minimum dialogue to keep the story moving. A better adaptation of the Robert E.
Howard character than one would have thought the 1980s capable of
What are you talking about? That era had the best movies. They can't make movies like that anymore
What a great movie! No CGI effects needed!
14 yr old me watching this movie... Sandahl Bergman crawling on the floor had my hormones raging.
I loved the costume Valérie Quennessen is wearing in this scene. Great shots of her reclining on the pillows as Thulsa Doom turns into a snake.
4:30. Best part was that subtle sparkle. She was perfect.
Always had a chortle at master thief Valeria being all sneaky-sneaky, kicking the chains, not flinching at her terrible mistake, and nobody noticing.
Good thing they play the music in the temple so loud.
Valeria is hot and Conan is big, but Thorgrim really brings down the house.
Thorgrim knocks down that pillar, then stands there for a moment in amazement, thinking:"Man! Did I really just do that"?!?
😂🤣
And Arnie kill him again on Predator ( the Russian advisor to the guerrilla ).
@@THECDG999 Arnold and Sven are such good friends that Arnie usually arranged some part in his movies for Sven. I think they are in over a dozen movies together!
if Conan would be real then He can call me anytime..
The bad assery of this movie is still unmatched.
If you don't fall in love with Valeria right there at the end of the clip, you are not a man
Valeria. Now there is a WOMAN!
Agreed 100%!
and they complain there were no strong female players... sandahl bergman was the hottest!!!
Oh Valeria such a badass.
Totally agreed
O melhor casamento entre cena de ação e trilha sonora de todos os tempos... simplesmente iconeco.
2:37 -2:45 Most fricking awesome scene with a sword...EVER
2:20 Arnold's most epic push press
I won a costume contest dressed up like homeboy back in 83 Halloween. I started to hit the weights even harder when Conan The Barbarian came out. I did my best painting myself and with a wig and all that, teenage memories. I was 15.
I know Ben Davidson wasn't an actor, or even close to it (unless you count kicking ass on the Raiders) but that "YOU!" he delivered was perfection.
The fight from 2:50 👌👌 It just lives on forever..
Yep you said it here bro.
One of the best movies that came out the year I graduated high school. RIP James Earl Jones. 😢😢
The Conan 2 v 1 is the Most realistic fight. How a fight really would go...down and dirty. no fancy moves just pure thuggery
the gore and blood in these movies were so satisfying
It so was! It was 1982 dude! A sword slash makes a spray of blood? Cool! I wonder if John Milius was inspired by samurai pics. At the time, the film was attacked for having "gratuitous violence". Which became the term used in ratings soon after. Hey, Conan makes a mark on film history? ;p
@@theGhoulman aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaqq

野村剛 I agree
One of the few films where the camera actually keeps death in frame. You can see the agony those goons go through as they bleed. It does a lot to ground the scenario.
I gotta love the scene where she’s patting her hand with the blade…SO EFFIN EPIC…
The way he shoves the slave out of the way in 1:15 makes me lol everytime
Took 8 men to carry that cauldron from the kitchen, and Conan dumps it over all by himself. So much badassery in this movie.
Look closer. Subotai is to his left giving him a hand.
@@TI4438 good eye!
Rip Tulsa Doom, aka James earl Jones. May he rest in peace 😢
Greatest film ever made.
That Grand Sweeping Orchestra Score does It For Me...... I See A Majestc Waltz!!!!
