Thulsa Doom hypnotized Conan mother before killing her. He tried to do the same here with Conan, but failed... Nice beginning and nice ending... Anyone noticed this?
@@Konrad_Wallenrod Doom was wrong and always was, which is why he lost his head. Conan would go on to more adventures, meeting more companions and getting his own kingdom.

It's brilliant the way Conan hesitates because the words of Thulsa. Yeah, you can think is magic or something but there is a much simpler explanation. Thulsa is right in his words, Conan went to that point thanks to him, killing his parents and destroying his culture made him the person he is now and after breaking his father sword (the riddle of steel for Conan's father) he has nothing left to belive now. So he is tempted to belive in Thulsa. And in the most important day of his existence in which he can finally choose, he kills the second fake riddle of steel: religion. Loosing the fear to nothingness.
Bas. Poledouris'(1945‐2006), soundtrack is one of the best, 25-30 years, after the golden era of the great Hollywood 'symphonists', like Miklós Rosza & E. W. Korngold. A magnificent score of epic proportions, which deserved,in my opinion an academy award. The combined use of symph.orchestra & choruses, gives the music almost the character of a cantata. I dare to compare it to Sergei Prokofiev's "Alexander Nyevsky",(1938), which was initially composed as a movie score!
This scene is magnificent. Conan kills the leader of cult and proves steel is still powerful, and all those cult followers are weak, individually and in mass. Conan is ubermensch who makes his own rules and bows to no one, not like those cult sheep heard. Conan even says to Crom to go to hell. He confronts fearlessly all of them, humans and deities, and is not afraid. How many real life humans can fearlessly confront majority and millenniums old beliefs? Not many. And that is why I love the philosophical undertone of Milius' master work. Basil Poledouris is musical collaborator you could only dream about, he gives to 100% great film additional 100% quality and epicness. I love both Milius and Poledouris.

Fun fact: John Milius initially wrote this scene as the ending for Apocalypse Now where Martin Sheen kills Marlon Brando, but Coppola didn't like it, so he used it for Conan.
The Apocalypse Now script I remember reading had Brando's character dying after a last major battle with the North Vietnamese. But as Brando was so completely out of shape they couldn't pass him off as the "ultimate warrior" they went with "ultimate decadent" who Sheen's character kills.
This a great scene. I love how it calls back the scene in the beginning where Doom killed Conan's mother after putting her under a thrall, and shows how Cocan overcame that.
Right hand: steel is strong (...this you can trust) Left hand: flesh is strong ( what is steel compared to the hand that wields it?) Both end up in the floor. (Crom forgets the riddle of steel in the battlefield) THE HERO is stronger. THE HERO has become GOD.
As a history buff, this film is more accurate to the spirit of ancient history than 99% of so called historical films. This is what the environment of the old world was like before the rise of "ordered" Western Civilization. Whilst in the east this was civilization.
At least we finally got the full version on DVD. It has to be said that the removal of the princess from the final scenes was not a good move and the way they did it was a bit clunky. Also I wonder why they did it, was it because of her blatent "I`m yours, do whatever you want with me" attitude. Except of course Conan, who is still morning for Valeria isn`t interested and just takes her home to dad. (Though I think that he`s been murdered by that point, though perhaps that`s another scene they cut?)
Having him take the Princess would explain his Kingship. I'm pretty sure that was part of the original intention, that and that both of them are the "Orphans of Doom." Lots of symbology here. Unfortunately, they cut her out completely. Some have mentioned that it feels a little off to them thematically (if you read the other posts in this thread).
I am old enough that I saw this in the theater as a kid, and I still remember when Conan threw James Earl Jones' head down the stairs somebody in the back of the theater yelled out "gutterball!'
You know I never thought about it before, but at the end Conan has achieved everything he said at the start was best in life, has crushed his enemies, he saw them driven before him when Thulsa Doom ran after his warriors were butchered and now at the end as he kills doom he hears the lamentations of the women (and men for that matter) as his followers wail... and it's hollow, nothing he burns the temple and leaves, what was really best in life Valeria, Subotai, the crazy old wizard, kinship, comradery, love... without it what really is victory? I guess it really is about the friends we make along the way.
Have you seen the scene that was deleted from the theatrical release? The one where he speaks to Subotai, after Valeria's cremation, and before the battle with Thulsa's goons? When the warlord asked Conan what was best in life, Conan was not free, and he answered based on what his life was... pitiless combat. When Conan spoke to Subotai, he remembered picking blueberries in the forest with his father. He was no longer interested in fighting just for the sake of combat. He fought when he had to, to avenge what was taken, and also, it prevented Thulsa Doom robbing any more young boys of their childhoods.
Conan proved Thulsa Doom and his father wrong solving the riddle of steel, its neither the strength of steel nor flesh that is needed but the willpower to overcome these obstacles. Conan demonstrates the proof of this by taking Dooms head.

I read in the trivia section in IMDB that some people consider this movie as racist because a Germanic actor kills a black guy playing a villain.
I really hope that’s not true and no one is stupid enough to think that.
I love how Conan just holds up the head to the group, showing that Doom was human. Then he tosses the sword. He says nothing, just letting his deeds speak for themselves
DANKE LIEBER GOTT 🌳
This is NOT the ending i saw in the theatre. Nor was it on my VHS tape later on.
What did you see then?
2019 anyone
Conan The Avenger
Revenge is really so sweet 😁👍
Esse filme deveria ter virada uma franquia igual a star wars!😪
I love how manipulative thulsa Doom was when he said "...who gave you the will to live?".
Old movie are the best, no theology,
