  • This is one I have wanted to do for a long time - the mad and wild looking TVR Sagaris. However, underneath that lunatic exterior, and behind those crazy side exit exhausts is reportedly the best, most accessible and finest assembled car TVR ever made. Is it so?

My mates boss is in a wheelchair because his TVR was T-boned by some ****t going the wrong way down a one way road. The chassis is made by aftermarket workshops I believe. It depends on design ownership law but this design would have passed copyright would be close to it. The TVR name is owned by the owners or a shared ownership with the ex owners.

Axel Reunis, steady-on! Ever seen a Miura or a 288 GTO?
The Cerbera looks amazing, the interior is stunning, the engine bay looks fabulous (especially the original V8 long induction pipes in TVR purple), and the exterior is very very cool indeed. Whilst it doesn’t have a bad angle, it’s a bit slab sided compared to some Italian exotica. Still, it’s aged extremely well and I often myself sitting in the garage just looking at it ;-)

Jay may be the only other person so knowledgeable of all Top Gear episodes as myself; several damn near complete Clarkson quotes here. That said, it was that episode that made me fall in love with this car because, as an American, TVR just doesn't exist here. A TVR always feels like a car made by car guys; the Sagaris is genuinely in my top 10, easy, yet I've never even seen one in person, which really is car guy logic.
    Either way, nice review Jay.

Agree 100% about the perception of TVR being totally skewed, but then there is a lot of nonsense talked about them by people who have never even sat in one. It’s hard not to love this car. Always loved them. I once met a guy who claimed he worked for TVR. He said: “You really must love TVR’s if you want Keep fixing them. Remember, you have to have a toolbox in the boot to fix them all the time” I assume TVR owners are not scared of unreliability. I was once in Spain on holidays and I saw 18 TVR’s going inside the ferry in Bilbao. And these were the ones I just saw going in because when I looked some were in already. Unreliable or not, people drive them anywhere. I would.

it was really nice watching all those TVR’s getting into the ferry while my wife and I were annoyed after waiting for hours trying to board the ferry. That was the year the Iceland vulcano erupted causing major issues in Europe. Many people like me had the idea of using the ferry to come back to UK which caused huge delays for the ferry staff members to deal with so many people boarding the ferry. That was a funny ride and an extra week on holidays trying to find how to get home as the airlines were cancelling flight after flight due to volcanic ashes in european skies.

The condition of the car after all those years is a testament to the owner. Looks like it’s in amazing condition.
Friend had a TVR about 25 years ago when I had a Porsche 944 turbo. Looked nice together on the driveway.

The 911 looked like a 74 RSR in signal orange, but t went past so quick 🤔

It is a 74 3 Litre RSR, you can sort of see the registration sprayed onto the oil cooler grille at the front- just & then the rear strategically hidden by the trade plate helps work it out. Nice to see such an expensive machine being driven in anger.

Everyone makes the axe murderer jokes but the sagaris and t350c are the most beautiful looking modern cars ever created in my opinion. The proportions are perfect and the paint jobs are something else.

Those things that people see as flaws show that the car is hand made and that is worth a lot to some people stuff is no longer made by hand everything mass produced this car is a hidden gem

Delicate is the word. I have two friends, both own(Ed) TVR’s - all I remember of their experience of being TVR owners as they spent a lot of time broken than they did not broken. One was a Griffith the other an old Chimera. The looked great though

9.48 -9:56 that’s the perfect example of TVR build quality. I love that he is saying for £50k you could do worse as he shows a shot of terrible build quality.

I had one - it was terrifying driven at 9/10s on B roads and yes there's a lot of engine inertia to overcome that you need to get 4500 on clock then it's really moving and the chassis becomes uber floaty - there's a road we used on magazine shoots B660/645 and I kid you not both of us swopping cars twice there and back, we found we could cover the 30 miles quicker in a humble 2004 3.0 Z3 than in the 2004 Sagaris - we also had a trackday business and nobody would go out in the Sagaris on track after they had driven it once such was it's utter unpredictability compared to say a M3 CSL, Ultima, Westfield, Aerial Atom or Caterham !!
