I actually met this man when he came to speak to my high school class as part of a worksafe bc program. He has had a lot of progression in his recovery and he had much more mobility when I met him. His recovery was really inspiring and his speech and experience are part of the reason so many of my classmates got out of unsafe situations that could have seriously harmed them. Young people are taken advantage of so much in the work industry
actually a lady from worksafe came to our school and told us that, this guy was so determined to get out of the wheelchair, he managed to teach himself to walk again, but because they werent expecting him to ever walk again when they treated hime they just used like one piece of metal or something in his ankle so now when he walks, he can easily break his ankle just my rolling it because he doesnt have any joints there anymore
That really sucks. But I could think of worse things that could happen, being blinded, brain damaged or dealing with 3rd degree burns over 90% of the body are a few that come to mind.
"In British Columbia, one young worker is injured every hour." Once you've actually had to go through all the WorkSafeBC shit after getting hurt, it sickens you that suddenly you're part of the statistic.
no... he leans back and with his back muscles slides his hips forward which pushes his legs forward. Since his feet are planted they anchor the lower legs and his knees spread naturally. Get in a chair and reenact that move, you'll see. Make sure your feet are planted.
Some of them, yeah actually. My mom worked at Kaiser and she would tell me stories (gripes) of the stuff that happens there, DAILY! There would be nurses that leave elderly/disabled patients in their own shit just because they didn't want to treat them. They would be too "busy" to see to them and wouldn't you know it, their shift is over. Oh well. I guess it's up to the next nurse to not give a shit and DO THE EXACT SAME THING. My mom was one of the few people that gave a damn about others and she would end up treating people that weren't on her round if she had time, which was rarely the case as 99% of the time every nurse/nurse's assistant had 3x as many patients on their rounds as regulations say a single nurse is supposed to have because when everything is said and done Kaiser is a business, and profit/productivity are all that matters to a business at the end of the day.
of course hes bitter, take away something youve takin for granted, that you never gave a second thought about, but did osha or ansi and niosh for that matter help?no freakin way,its just knowing right and wrong with a roll of the dice involved, yes some accidents can be avoided but not all
hey who made fun of wheelchairs i know how it feels to be in a wheelchair it sucks because i almost got my leg amputated and thus i coud,nt walk for a month so i woud,nt be talking gegan250
Okay - I'm sure it super sucks to be in a wheelchair but dude should really adopt a positive attitude because the negative one he has is not going to help him. And secondly - DUDE WAS MOVING HIS LEGS! wtf?

You must always treat a fork lift like a truck filled with dynamite. They may look innocent, but they can be deadly.
