Great pod! Rays video looks more punchy and less overexposed, or at least matches Des' video better. Looks great! Looking forward to Ray's Vision Pro video. 😂
The Zwift expansion discussion is very interesting. It strikes me that Zwift gradient control finally came to fruition with the upcoming Wahoo Treadmill and not to Technogym. It seems like the path to a larger user base would be through exposure at commercial gyms where folks hop on Technogym treadmills and run on a nice virtual route in Zwift. I understand nothing is so simple but it seems like a longer term path to potential new users/customers compared to Wahoo. That said, I will likely be enjoying the Zwift hills on a Wahoo treadmill this summer. Anyway, great topics today. Enjoyed it!
Ray, Des, You two really need to address the Garmin Connect App Beta roll-out. Over a month since your posts and it seems that many folks are still waiting for it. My “wash, rinse, repeat,” post. thanks
Great Video!.. I have a question.. since now you only need a frame and one front chainring.. would it be profitable for someone to step in and make just that.. a frame with one front chainring.. you don't even need a front wheel for it.. I'm seriously thinking of converting one of my favorite old aluminum bikes to use as my trainer bike now.. lol.
A future topic maybe, what happened to “snap to grid?” If I recall there was a brand/watch that you could load your course and the GPS snapped to it if you were fairly close. This is useful in big city races or places maybe like the Grand Canyon. Is this patented that no one else can do it? Is the thought with multi-band it’s just not worth it as it’s pretty close already?
Zwifts pathway is super obvious - partner with Stages SB20 or Schwinn to offer a quality family-friendly fixed bike with solid power recording and virtual 50-100 gear shifting, and allow for either DIY tablet or fixed display options.. Then - partner with Les Mills for their spin class library (RPM) - arguably the best catalogue of classes there is . Boom - spin for some and Zwift for others.
Surely for under $1000 Zwift and Wahoo could work together to weld half of a $200 bike onto a Kickr core (ideally using a belt instead of a cog) and add some discord like features to group workout? Everything Bluetooth and user just connect your tablet of choice. Sounds like that’s the market to be going for.
Love the show! Quick question, what app or software do you use to record the video and audio? I am trying to figure out how to record me and my two friends during a video call and not just the speaker for a podcast
We're using our usual setups for recording and then send the files for one person to edit. For me (Des), I use Premiere Pro with the AutoPod extension for quick multi-cam editing although I'm not sure of how useful that extension is in my workflow. Thanks!
Potential topics for next podcast episode: When are we going to see the next substantial updates to smart bike trainers? When will they get integrated motion features and the ability to swap from drop bar to mountain bike handlebars, etc?
I had a cyclops Phantom that had shifting built in through the app. I think is shifted through the app to the bike and I could use it on Zwift independently or shift through Rovy in the virtual world. I can’t believe it has taken so long for this to become main stream but still so restrictive.
As another commenter said the Vision Pro would be cool for Zwift! Or like, a future version of Zwift with better graphics, and a future lighter less sweaty version of Vision Pro
Can you address what Zwift's support for its Hub and Hub One trainers will be from both a software and hardware perspective? Ray has said two yearsish, which literally just gets it out of the warranty period in the UK.
They've committed to two years from Feb 7th (or, last date or purchase from Zwift/Wahoo). That's the minimum date they commited to for feature/bug fixes. They may well go beyond it (I suspect so, if it benefits them, like some new accessory support or something). At the same time, Wahoo aside, we don't really tend to see firmware updates for older trainers very often from really any company. Largely because they don't tend to need it. The standards are robust enough that after any initial teething bugs, it tends to be a case of 'it is what it is' (for good or bad). Cheers! (Ray)
@@thefitfile I hope you are right about them supporting beyond the 2 year mark but the pessimist in me is feeling like they are going to drop all support once all the units are out of their warranty period.
Hi from Lausanne, Switzerland ! I had a question about, conveniently, the FIT format. Are there some limits to this specific format and what do you think can be done by the industry to protect the universality of such a file format ? Keep it up with the podcast, it's greatly enjoyable :)
That's a good one to bring in some experts at the file side of things, but to the extent of my knowledge, one of the cool things is custom data fields within it (developer fields) that let companies extend it for added data as required, in a way that's easily understood by apps if needed. I'm sure there are quirks that developers/companies hate, but I rarely hear of them. Cheers! (Ray)
How hard could it be for an application to develop for the zwift click? I figure the device just sends two signals, one for up and one for down, right? All the math after the app receives the signal is done within the app itself i would think. Choose a number of gears to have, and each one is a different multiple of the resistance and speed, right? Obviously im not an application developer, just a SQL databse guy...
Thanks. Great video. High tech in America is laying off thousands and I think these mass layoffs are "contagious", meaning when the big companies do it, the smaller ones follow and gives them cover to improve their bottom line. It also makes their shareholders or funders happy.
How amazing if Zwift connects to Apple Vision Pro!!!!!!!!!!! Think of the immersion and also the potential for social interaction!! Riding in a group on Zwift with friends wow
So you have a 4 person household and want to watch a video…. You pay $14k for your family to watch together?! Stupid!! I get this is just a means to an end but WTF is Apple charging so much for this? Should just be innovation budget investment dollars out of Apple’s pocket. People are just idiots for spending this kind of money!!!
I’m not sure people using it together in the same room is the intention with this device, more for use when you don’t have the opportunity for real interaction. (Des)
Great video 👍
🍏👀. I’m going to use the *Apple Vision Pro* to display a version of the Tour de France POV where I can hold Wout van Aert’s wheel. 😂
Great pod!

The Apple Vision Pro will be just like your phone down the road. When it gets smaller, not so pricey, and more developers are on board.

I've used direct drives from Wahoo and Zwift. But I kept going back to my Kinetic fluid trainer with a power meter. So much smoother and less complex.
I love my computrainer too /s

Used my Vision Pro with Fulgaz and it was awesome. If Fulgaz was 3D and if I had a sweat solution (3rd party) it would be ridiculously cool.

These are so good, and I don't even bike.
Beer moves mountains!

Still no virtual shifting for v6 and move 😢
I think Ray is broken. He is not wearing a watch or two or three?!
Still he has a ring
May have borrowed someone else’s arms?

...hang tight! :)
I encountered Wahoo staff recently at a trade show- they denied this product existed…even though they’ve already announced it… not impressed.
Screw Elite. My Direto is already behaving like junk after two years in use. No quality. Hope they go under.
I do worry that Zwift will not survive the next 5 years...
I don’t understand Zwift as a company at all. Weirdest of the bunch!

So let's isolate people even more! Perfect!!@@thefitfile
isnt the swift layoff just swift business going from swift is a rising star to swift is now a cash cow?
Or…they saw what Elon did with Twitter, and realized they could still operate with a fraction of the staff? Perhaps they were really bloated?
