John Smith yeah but when you work in automotive places That’s the only time the customer so happens to find new found damage lmao so it’s not only for the customer
auxmike actually you’re wrong. Everything we techs recommend is coming straight from the owners manual. It’s just cheap people like you who don’t take care of their cars who think we are trying to up sell them.
To all the people in the comments complaining that inspections take too long and are a waste of time. Not doing an inspection could cause someone to die! Bald tires or metal on metal brakes MUST be brought to a customers attention! They are a major safety hazard!
Then they need to pay for that inspection, not expect it for free. If you go to a restaurant you dont expect free desert because you bought an appetizer. average multi point inspection should cost around 90 dollars and actually be thorough. Very thorough. Problem is we work in an industry where everyone expects the tech to tell them everything about their car because they bought an oil change. In addition that tech only makes 0.3 of an hour on an oil change. That's about $6. It takes 30 minutes to do a proper inspection (by the way most places want pictures and videos) about 15 minutrs to do an oil change, about 15 to deal with the service advisor, and 10 minutes waiting on parts from parts experst who font know 5w-20 from 0w-20. Which means the tech make about $5.80 an hour if they do there job right. Nobody is going to do that, so shortcuts are encouraged or you get people who don't know much about anything.
My mechanic class told me that we have to do inspections to avoid getting sued. For example if a customer asks for only a oil change but you notice something else wrong you have to inform the customer about it and take a note of what you saw so if they come back a week later saying that part you mentioned broke your notes will cover your butt because your notes will say that you told the customer about the issue during inspection but they did not want it to get fixed
Don't like them pressure you into buying anything unless you want to if all you want is an oil change. They should only recommend something if you really need it and if you dont get it it's on you if something breaks simple as that
It funny because Jiffy lube gets a bad rap yet they do everything these guys do in 10 to 15 min. While most dealerships have about an hour to get it done.
well most delarships have at least a dozen cars ahead of yours because of the ''leave it here and pick it up at 3-5 pm'' thing that most dealerships have.
Also, yes some oil change places and some dealerships will recommend things you don't need, however, if they're recommending that you do something and they're honest and showing you why they're recommending it then it's not just to keep you there or spend your money, it's preventative maintenance normally. Had a customer get mad at us just a few days for recommending a timing belt and water pump replacement at 150k miles the other day. What they don't realize is they'll spend much more if that timing belt or water pump fails. Their car is getting more miles on it and they've had it serviced there since new and they think we are just trying to get them to spend more money unnecessarily when we are really just trying to keep their car on the road reliably.
This car look too good to be old probably very new and they did the oil change after the break in period witch was probably at 1000 miles would explain why the oil still looked good
Ryan Scherbluk dude that oil ha snap browning whatsoever , the oil literally has no miles. Even if the car gets driven a little the oil instantly goes brown because of the heat That’s weird lmao

I would say that by listening to that motor there that the amateor sprocket is causing interference which in turn causes the combustion line to interfere with the flow in the dynaflow."
65 in Texas lol, now I start as a tech tomorrow, hopefully helps pay my way through flight school and business school. Beats working at a restaurant lol.
One of the worst jobs I’ve ever had, I was payed 10 an hour and they expected everyone to work like a nascar pit crew and mind you that everyone working there is fresh out of high school and have hardly if any actual hands on training.
OG Krillin eh. I don’t mind it. Maybe you worked at a shitty shop? Only making like $9 an hour though I’m just getting experience so I can move on up
Ti ko I didn’t work at a mom and pop shop, i worked at a Toyota dealership here in Houston. And good luck on moving up, they require you to be working there for at least several years before they decide to do anything with you and that’s just the norm at dealerships
FBI average at these lube places is like 10 hours a day. But they’ll send ya ass home if it’s a slow day. I’m no longer a lube tech with JL anymore, I’m working as a mechanic for a local shop :)
evidently you were NOT factory trained!!
Sounds like Wal-Mart auto lube
As a jiffy lube employee, i noticed a few things in the video were done incorrectly or not done at all........
lmao, I know. We do all the things these pricks do in like 15 min... Most dealerships have around an hour. Not to mention, most dealerships pay better than Jiffy.
rsx123 i mean im the only employee out of several locations where i live that is ACE certified
What's ACE Certified? Is that something new we haven't heard of out here on the West Coast? Lol
Ace Performance Automotive ASE is what i meant lol
@@kindmara Then why are you working at a Jiffy Lube? Get something better bruh.
Used to work at GM and one technician there used an impact to tighten the drain plug, and used a ratchet to tighter the filter!!
Gotta get the ugga duggas
Thank you for a thorough video
So do lube techs change brake pads and rotors to?
Maybe a bit late but usually no, but id imagine alot of places upsell things that the customer doesnt really need, like pads, rotors, suspension conponents, fluids. And anything they can to get more money out of the customer
Oh ok because i was thinking about working as a lube tech and was just wondering did a lube tech do more than just changing oil
@@vulgardisplayoftruth2060 Thank you sir hope it goes well for me
Not usually
I do the ones on my truck. But at my location they want you to have ASEs to do brakes.
How much does this job pay
@@vulgardisplayoftruth2060 It is, however, a way to get your foot in the door at a dealership.
Do u need a high school diploma to join Toyota’s lube technician crew?
I started working at Valvoline today. I came home with oil on my hands and arms. There was even a small grease stain on my forehead. Is this normal? I can’t understand why I would be required to get oil on me from working at an oil change shop.
Hope its not too late but i would advise you to see a doctor
If I become auto mechanic training.. I can work 8 am to 3 pm week
Good luck getting an oil change done properly at any dealership or Quick Lube place. They both hire the same types of people.
Dealerships should have REAL mechanics, not teenagers off the street like these places. They dont let non mechanics touch cars mechanically at a real dealer (not a buy here pay here place, carmax, or jd byrider)
Not all shops
@@jdigitalseven7 I was hired as a technician for a toyota dealership. They had me working oil change for 3 days before I started my job in repair. Those guys were getting paid $11 a hour working 10.5 hour shift with no breaks but 30 min lunch. The second day they had me down in the pit. It was flooded down there with 7 inches of water on the floor you had to walk in. started doing oil changes and noticed live extension cords under the water plugged into outlets. I had the next guy that came down unplug them. Seen a few more things. I didnt show back up there today. Decided I didnt want any part of that place.
after what I seen in the little time I was there I was suggest doing your oil change yourself or have a friend or family member to pay to do it. I seen the guy that was over the oil change stations take the air filter out of a truck and the airbox was full of leaves and stuff. Just sat the box down started it and drove out and parked it and went to get a new air filter. That truck ate them leaves. I asked one guy if they ever had a car pull out without oil he said happens all the time. The sensor would shut the car down and let them know it has no oil. they would push it back and fill it with oil before anyone would notice.
@@jdigitalseven7 oil changes pay crap for flat rate
Also make sure you don't put oil back in the engine that's just optional
Do you guys do up seal, and if so when do you check for history. And when do you give Ro to service advisor?
I work at valvoline as of now and must say it’s a good job tbh u don’t even have to know about cars and u can move up with them
Alberto Sanchez yep
How do you get the damn filters so tight
@@lucaswalker104 theyre taught to tighten them down with tools because people manage to somehow not tighten them enough by hand. So to avoid a blown engine theyre taught to tighten with a tool.
@@Constipatedoverlord a oil filter doesn't need to be torque to a 100 ft pounds is all I'm saying lmao
@@lucaswalker104 technical spec is usually 3/4 turn past contact.
Either that was brand new oil coming out or that’s an extremely clean burning engine.
Is this a lube and tire technician?
It bothers me that the techs didnt shake down the front & rear end to check for any loose suspension components.
My service manager wants the front and rear bounced before even racking the vehicle... He will flip his lid if he sees someone not doing this. Even though you are right you should notice leaking struts/stocks and such from a visual inspection.
He showed me the video in this link during orientation, and said if he catches anyone not doing the "process" EXACTLY how it is done in this video, they can find a new job. ua-cam.com/video/RFQLo7wlrgo/v-deo.html
Nice work
When they made this video,it'd been a good idea if they used a vehicle that actually needed an oil change service.
they waste good oil
IvanPlayStation4LiFe They recommend weekly oil changes maybe
It’s the same either way
Why is your oil running clean
Try doing this with 40 oil change waiters while having to work on the vehicle alone at the same time service writer is nagging you to get it all done in under 10 mins so it can go wait to be washed for another 10 to 15 then god forbid its has a rotation with air filter or cabin filter change then having to go wait for parts while still being nagged by the service writer and the customer getting mad why its taking so long. You yell at the service writer to give some of the ROs to the techs who should help out but some of them are too good to do oil changes. Then when you have to use the bathroom oh man get ready for being yelled at some more. Oh how i dont miss working at dealerships. Oh dont forget your under pressure to "find" something wrong with the vehicle so the service manager looks good for making customer pay profits if not they will do false warranty claims to bring in (steal) money from corporate. If a tech isnt profitable to the shop you be fired. Even if you have a car that has a bunch of things wrong and the customer says no its not the service writers fault for not upselling they blame the tech.
Damn I love working at valvoline, that sounds awful.
Man, I start a new job tomorrow as a lube and oil guy.
A different direction in my life but I've worked on my cars before.
Anyway, it's a family-owned new/used car dealership and my buddy who co-owns it with his father and brothers talked about upselling.
Plus I've heard they aren't worker-friendly but I need a job close by.
Your comment makes me nervous but also gives me info on what to expect.
@@SSArt98how did it go
@@PlumbCarton5607 Well, I'm 17 months into the job. Spent nearly $5,000 on tools now, done close to 2K oil changes/tires rotations.
It's gone good so far, some glitches such as the used car I bought off a mechanic there.
I get to work on many high end vehicles, which is kind of cool.
~
The fellows comment I replied to above, he's on SPOT!
I've had to deal with my Service writer forgetting my RO's many times and, then I get blamed for the extra time it took me.
The Parts dept, basically another business within a business, makes me mad on the mark ups but there's nothing I can do.
I've had a cable break on my lift that nearly hit/slashed me in the face, had diesel oil/fuel all over me, spiders, stinky cars (BO).
Lots of cool and a few bad things have happened.
~~
Anyway, I'm up getting ready to ride to work on my bicycle again. 11 months after I bought the new/used car, the timing chain broke on my way to see family 52 miles away from home! ($300 tow fee!)
I've got $7400 in the car now and it's just sitting in the dealership lot now, not sure what I can do or afford, it took 6 months of pay to get that car and replace a few things.
It's raining, going to drop 40 degrees by Thursday, so riding my bike sucks! (Especially being I'm 57 years old and I work at a new/used car dealership!
(I've got a few shorts of a few high end or cool cars I've worked on, check them out.

Thanks for asking!
Have a great day!

Great video would have loved to see a full service but I understand. Trans flush, rear diff transfer case etc...
Don’t think lube techs do those anyways. Just oil changes and tire rotations.
Draining clean oil? coolant looks full? Its a new car.. looks like an easy inspection. Look at an average car or old car to see how well you can do.
Seriously I am asking because I don't and don't wanna call jiffy lube but how much is a oil change now?
They never changed tires were I worked they just add air or not
Helpful!
I have been working in this profession for ten years, and I know all oils and all cars
Interesting "lift-creeper" setup. Never seen that before.
What about safety glasses?
Ur mom
Same Work field working in Saudi Arabia as Lubetech for 5yrs.
I love mechanical job.
Toyota shirts ??
in this video i heard the word rear tail lights are they in the front as well ?
Gotta do this to my car now!

Make sure to upsale and overcharge everyone equally lol
Don't go local, got to Valvoline, the price is worth the fact that they literally have never fucked up my car like any other shit hold local place has with their cheaper prices which end up costing me more in damages lol. Or do it yourself and stop crying.
😮5:06 "once the oil is thoroughly drained..." Replace the oil drain plug. Did anyone else notice there was still a bunch of oil coming out?? That's why I change my own oil.
I am a complete oil changer can i work in your company. Please
Why is that lube mechanic wearing those dirty grooves and handling the steering wheel???cleanliness is part of the motor trade GUYS..
Make sure your oil is actually used before replacing it....
FourDollaRacing idiot
It was for demo purposes.
Oof this is way different than how we do it st my store
This tutorial is only for Toyotas, Any luxury car would take to long to access half of the things he checked.
Appreciate Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Setackson Dumbstruck Scheme (do a google search)? It is a great one off guide for understanding how to give women amazing orgasims minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my coo-worker at very last got great results with it.
I was wondering how much do lube techs get paid? Does it vary on the location?
$8.00 - $18.00/Hr
Joshua Warner thanks!
Joshua Warner what? $8.00?
For us in CA its between $11.50 - $15.00
Kinda late..but 12.50 entry level here in Texas
NEVER GO TO A JIFFY LUBE ! THEY COST ME NOT 1 BUT 2 OIL PANS.
BY STRIPPING THE BOLT. ONCE ON MY CAR THEN ON MY SON'S CAR.
THEY WANTED TO DO A FULE INJECTION CLEANING ON ONE OF MY VEHICLES THAT HAD A CARBURETOR ! WHEN I SHOWED THIS TO THE TECH, HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE SAME THING !
THAT WAS MY LAST VISIT.
Places like this are famous for crushing filters/drain plugs on and fucking anything else possible up. Rookies 😂
What about this is quick??? You only check all these things to upcharge
So what you’re saying is that you don’t want to know what services/items are needed for your vehicle at that time?
Zach Attack nope, i know exactly what my truck needs and when because im a responsible owner
Ciampa Customs lol you’d be the first to complain if for example you had a brake light out and we didn’t inform you and then you got pulled over.
No, they are checked because customers want their car to be perfect when it leaves.
Bro why not do the damn inspection and tire rotation while the oil is draining 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
First of these technicians are not wearing safety glasses nor steel toe boots and for some weird reason there gloves don't get dirty while doing oil changes?
I don't even like wearing glasses
Hardly anybodu wears steel toe boots, really just need slip resistant shoes. And if youre good, you can do an oil change without getting dirty
You don’t really need steel toe boots on the quick service.
I personally do all of my mechanical work at home. I know my vehicle better than someone that looks at it for 20 minutes while trying to find every little thing to charge you money for.
dealership bad reeeeeeeeee
i can hardly hear this video. thanks
The spill tho lol
spin on oil filter should be put on by hand only no tools hand tight this is why when i get cars that have been at quick lube places I cannot remove the filters by hand and i need a tool to remove it
Rarely will you get one you can crack loose without pliers/strap They're usually crushed on because people are dumb. I've ripped filters apart because they were so tight and put on dry.
nobody does SOH on batteries unless they come in with a concern sayin to do so
Honest question: What do you guys do when you get a seized on filter cap? Or one that's rounded? Do you charge the customer for a new one and the labor to break it off? Or do you just eat the cost because of Toyota's crap design?
At chevy here where I work in Pasadena TX, I'm a nice guy and get a new plug for free except to hunt that fucker down is a bitch which adds more time to service and customers bitch also netball techs do lube jobs some dealers have specific lube centers
Depends on if the car is under warranty. If it’s out of warranty and rounded off by someone else then you will be paying for a new one.
that shits your property at that point lol
You forgot the Part were Firestone Steals out of the vehicle....
...
The oil wasn't even completely drained and the technician put the drain plug back on... even if it's for illustration purposes, that's not setting a good example since this is a training video. One more reason to change your own oil...
Have any vacancy i am car electrician
Whatttttt 5000 miles ? That’s a lot. My car always tells me to get an oil change every 2000
Or just check ur own damn oil once in a while until u need it changed
FTWQuiiXeR 2Krpm CC lol
Did he seriously just put Toyota red long life coolant in a corolla that uses super long life pink coolant? WTF are you guys thinking? That will literally destroy your cooling system and end up killing the water pump seals. Since 2004 Toyota has been using Super Long life Coolant. Out of all places a dealership should know this. Some people may argue it is OK, but Toyotas are known to have water pump seal issues, and you must do everything possible to avoid issues. You are literally showing a video of a "Toyota Trained Technician" doing exactly what Toyota recommends against in training material for new techs. This needs to get fixed.
Those lifts they got are not good for pavement princesses asking for a oil change and TIRE ROTATION.
you dont tighten oil filter with a wrench . now i know i will never visit a quick change location , thanks for saving me
Now thats some High Tech stuff, I guess that's why the say on the Commercials,
HIGHLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS
SO the training is like 1.25 hrs Max. ?
🤣
That oil was clean 😂😂🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Where are your grates? Anyone can fall in
“If you want anything done right you’ve got to do it yourself”, never take your car to the stealership
Good to see you go to alot of effort to try and do things correctly, but forget to clean the old service sticker sticky stuff off the windscreen and just put a new one over the top. 🤣🤣🤣
Don't forget, up sale, up sale, and up sale !
You don't reset any data until the job is completed.
And then the tech forgets and gets yelled at because the customer complains. Smart thinking.
