The wrench knock killed me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That was borderline mean what he did, LOL.
I just started a couple months ago at a Toyota as an entry level tech and it’s the best job I’ve ever had, working in a dealer and the people u meet is amazing. I’ve always watched you ever since I wanted to become a tech and hopefully I can be up to your level one day. Keep it up bro
That’s awesome bro!
What do I need to do to become a Toyota tech? I’m interested 💯
dawg I have a 2000 camry that has a popping noise seemingly coming from the steering column, it happens when i turn the wheel and hit about 80% of full lock under load, ive tried to grease up the ujoints because people have said thats what it could be but I have no idea, my steering also feels sloppy but also too heavy at times, please help, there's also a clicking when i brake and super low speeds
@@Jordanjuggin do you really think you're going to get an answer here?
@@Cornflakes691 This guy thinks he's going to get his car fixed in UA-cam comments lmao
That shop is so big!! Also I love how you explain the things you’re doing and how we need to be thorough and that it’s not always going to be a gas cap
As I semi- retired mechanic I enjoyed your video, just came across it as I was looking at while mechanic are leaving the shops, I subscribed because I interested in what’s your next move. I would suggest mechanic as a side hustle, while you follow your passion and dreams as the next chapter in your life, you can always do mechanic work, heck it’s Covid proof, I suggest by cars yourself and flip them. Best of life ahead
Love your videos Nick ! I work at Subaru as a Tech and watching a lot of your videos helped gain a lot of knowledge!
Yo! Hope the new place lets you record content, pays better and makes you happy. Auto industry is definitely hurting with these crazy warranty times and lack of appreciation for techs. Nonetheless, tool boxes got wheels for a reason! Good luck brotha!
Side note: that vacuum hose didn’t set a lean code because the leak was before the MAF sensor, so that air is actually being metered by the MAF. It would set the code if it was after the MAF though. 👍
I just wanna say this was definitely interesting to watch. I was considering working for a dealer before I got a job at Airpro diagnostics. Thank you for making this video though man, great content and great job explaining and what you did
First time here gotta say this video is awesome man! Thanks for giving us this small intro, goes a long ways. 👍
I remember when I started working for KIA, I started when I was 17 and I am 22 now! I never really thought I was smart, but when I started working with cars I realised that I was better at putting two and two together than I thought, so I started working really hard and I have been at it for a few years now, I really enjoy the job, the pay is not the best, but I find it very fun and sometimes challenging (in a good way).
As you grow throughout your tech journey the pay gets better you just gotta go after it, love seeing the younger guys enjoying the grind of turning wrenches man keep at it you sound like a great guy, I hope the best for you man!! #OneTechToAnother
Did u start as a lube tech? Are u on the line yet? With your certifications u will make more money.
Do you have any certifications or did you start out of high school ?
what’s a lube tech? Also for experienced technician’s, what if any were the reasons you guys quit the job? Payment wise or??
This is the realest day-in-life I saw on the internet! Bravo to your channel!
Such a good video and explanation of everything, love it man
The resurface break tool is so cool. Thanks for the video!
11 years mechanic from Africa and I still hate how these foremen and managers rush us I love taking my time to do the job and be extra sure
Why am I just now finding your channel. Keep it up man I love the content
Left Toyota dealership in October. Went to work for the city as a mechanic. Best move I ever made. Every holiday off . Major holidays I get the day before plus that day paid. No more working through lunch and staying late to catch up on work.
Love this kinda video bro! More of this bro thank you
Thanks brother nick for a day in a life as a toyota tech
Stumbled across your channel here. I am a Toyota master tech, but am located in Canada. Been there about 8 years and prior to that had 10 years at Ford and a couple years at independent shops.
Left my tech job, I’ll tell you what I don’t miss is the bullshit recalls and the checking frames for perforation and spraying them.
Hi Nick, i just love this whole thing you doing. I have loved it since childhood but circumstances made it difficult for me to pursue it. I really want to be one. I love this profession.
honest work! Need more like you!
I was just in the service center for the recall, nd here I thought Toyota removed and replaced the entire third brake light 🤣 ..awesome to see this vid !
As always....the minimum work possible
I fixed my third brake light myself literally like 2-3 weeks before the recall lol
Yoo started watching your vids recently, its really cool seeing the techs perspective. I started doing Dispatch at my local Toyota. Gotta deal with the techs and advisors and best of all... the gravy haha.
Thanks for this video I’m currently in school studying Automative and I’m checking out Automative videos and you just got my follow💯👍🏾 keep up the good work love it I could learn a lot from you lol
🤘
Just bought a 2010 Sequoi hope you have some vids on them,or plan to show some of the repairs they need.Love the channel bro
Just came acorss your videos. Waiting on my background check and everything to come back for toyota. Going from a quick lube shop to entry level tech at a toyota dealership. Your videos have been very insightful.
Welcome on in, Good luck man.
Cool video. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I love being an amateur mechanic (frustrating tho it may often be), but I could never do it professionally. I hate unnecessary time pressure.
Great video i like the layout first u explain symptoms then u show us fix
I just got hired as a lube tech at our Toyota dealership first day is in like 10 days and I’m pumped, I’m a Toyota guy but only work on 1st and 2nd gen 4Runner’s and pickups so its partially nerve racking jumping up to the newer years
When I worked at a Toyota dealership I always had to annotate the floor mats. That shit is just dangerous and seeing how other people are with their cars astonished me
I was a Harley-Davidson technician for four years and loved it! Got paid $10/hr but didn’t do it for the money….BUT…damn I could afford to buy even HarborFreight tools!
I start school Aug 23, 2022 at my local Technical college. Love the vid.
Great video! Makes me miss the shop life.
I’m leaving my auto tech career to go to college and get a physics degree. Being a tech for a decade completely and utterly killed my passion for cars, and I worked for Mercedes Benz and Ferrari. You’d think it would be great at the top…..you would think.
Hey man.
Great Video! I stayed the whole day!
And now do this 5/6 days a week for 40 or 50 years and you're all set..what fun !
You missed the part where you have to run time, print out a bunch of bullshit, document everything, do a ton of paperwork, and then write a dumb ass story for your warranty and recall work. Dealer warranty is seriously the worse.
Warranty tag, warranty stamp on Repair Order, return warranty parts, run enough flat time for warranty and recall work, perform HealthCheck, print out Diag Report, take photos, upload photos, print out photos, wait for approval, call TAS..... lol
Toyota documentation and time running is not that bad trust me BMW requires so much more when it comes to times and CCRs
@@LetsDriftMedia I'm an Infiniti tech and Nissan is in the toilet so they are going crazy with auditing the dealerships warranty stuff for any excuse not to pay the claims, so we have to cross all the t's and dot all the i's with every single thing they require and the requirements keep getting crazier and crazier bro. I hate the dealership game but they do pay
It’s really not that bad at all, lol.
thank you for making this video !
Just purchased a 2019 certified pre owned Tundra from a Toyota dealership in Lancaster, CA. Drove it back to AZ.
Thanks for doing another Toyota video
Was waiting for another day in the life of!
Digging these videos. Shows the problem and solution
Thanks. Wish Toyota let me film more when I was there.
I start at a Toyota dealership in 2 weeks, definitely exited
9:36 - I actually agree, that cover kit does look better. A quality change on a recall, whaddyaknow.
I bet people that dont know anything about this line of work and dont do this for a living are watching this and thinking "this stuff doesnt look that hard. Why did they need to go to school for it? Why all the training? Why does it take so long for my car to be finished if he works this quickly? Blah, blah, blah." From a tech, worst part of this job is people. I enjoy the job. I find it relaxing when left alone. Throw people and their feelings in the mix and it all turns to shit. Dont mind me, just a rant. Great video dude 👍
I think you made the right decision in switching over to trucking !
New to your channel. I really love the video contents since it involves Toyota vehicles.
Just started watching your videos............I used to live in Hesperia, I moved in 2019. I have a 2017 Tacoma and have been to the dealer in Victorville.
Smoke test on the evap leak is a savior
It's cool that the group is pretty chill. We went to coffee to get away from the dicks, but ya go to chill. It's hard to find a chill shop.
That wrench tapping was perfect timing with that motor lol
Yoooo. I just found your videos after the seeing the UTI upload. Crazy that you're in the High Desert!! I live there, and get my Tacoma's oil/filters from Valley High Toyota. Haha.
Maybe I'll see you around somewhere up here one day. 🤟
Hey man hope things go good for you. I worked for 13 years at a dealer and just got fed up with it for the same reasons you left. You get to that point where your at the top off on the shops pay scale and dealers don't want to pay. Also like you say dealers don't really offer benefits for your retirement. With a family you have to take all that Into account .
They don't have at least a 401k where they match at least 3% contribution?
Ay yo this premier is dope
Love these vids
I loved when your friend blowed air and smiled
Good luck at your new place man. I also recently got out of the dealership world. Best thing I could’ve done
really? why is that?
@@talhatariq6420 warranty work really sucks. You also just in general aren't paid as well for your skills.
@@Kazuma.- so what would you suggest doing instead?
Just to be clear to everyone this is an example of what not to do with an evap leak code. I mean $140an hour for diag and we touch the gas cap before doing a leak test which may fix the issue if it isn't sealing correctly. Then visually inspect hoses and not even all of them rather than smoke test. Like yikes man lol
90% of the time its a gas cap especially on vehicles that are not that old. Yes I agree that is not the proper way to go about it but being flat rate we are just trying to make hours.
Trust me I get trying to flag hours I totally do. This is why dealerships are not the place to work lol what you need to think about a the technician and human that just pencil whipped a 30$ fuel cap and 140$ for "diag" to a person trying to make ends meet and pass inspection just to have the light come back on so they can come back for another $140 "diag" you need need to tell the service manager you do diags correctly and you need paid for your time and knowledge. Screw them for charging $140 for 1 hr and letting you flag .3 hrs at some bs pay rate.
@@curtisette This is why I get a good extended warranty. I don't care what you charge or pencil whip as long as it ain't coming out of my pocket.
Of course this is what gives dealerships a bad name too.
@@curtisette yea I feel you. But if it were to come back. There is no diagnosis charge the 2nd time since it is considered a comeback. And the problem will get diagnosed for free. Unless the code is a completely different problem then the original Evap leak. But yea that’s the problem with dealership world. The customer wants the repair done for almost free. The dealer wants to make money any way they can. And the technicians are also just trying to make ends meet just like everyone else.
@@curtisette , @lets drift media, Please care explain this FLAT RATE world at dealerships to pay techs. I am a heavy duty diesel tech, cummins, maxxforce, detroit ,paccar & allison trained. I was hourly for the last 11yrs. I have a local diesel sprinter dealer that offered me an assignment although it is at flat rate and hourly is waaaaay lower , significant lower than my hourly doing heavy duty diesel. I am "burned" up for now, what is all with FLAT RATE ?
i make service appointments at toyota! 20ta02 and 21td03 on those recalls lol? enjoyed your video!!
Hi I see all your videos love them !!! Great work.... With Few honest Mechanics Like you and CARE CARE NUT GUY us normal guys can diagnose our vehicle problems even before taking it to a mechanic...
Thanks for all the Wisdom you share...
I have a question sorry to put it in comments I don't know if it'll get to you..
I have lexus IS 350 AWD since winter started here in DUBAI I'm getting poorer gas mileage from 29.1 to 27 mostly highway driving 51miles to and back form work..
Normal for fuel mileage to go down in winter time, it’s due to the blend that’s used for the gas. I don’t know how weather is in Dubai. But when it’s colder everything is harder on your car. So it’s normal for fuel mileage to go down in the winter
I love this video!
Hey Nick I'm taking a course on auto shop at my community College. I am a violin teacher for children. I just got covid-19 today, I got free classes so that's cool. I just wanted to learn not even go into the trade though. Thank you for all your advice on here. God bless you!
Thats awesome man, Even if you are not turning this into a profession automotive knowledge is a good skill to learn for personal use.
@@LetsDriftMedia it is pretty cool. They said they need people so bad in this type of work the school was willing to pay for the classes for me. I guess because they lose a lot of money from there contracts with the dealers in town. Plus my cousin is the general manager of Audi and Lexus in my city. I don't think he would ever hire me but maybe in the future if I wanted to try it.
It’s good to know for your projects cars 👀
I'm at uni and work part time in a supermarket to fund my cars and life, but one of the van technicians is ex toyota, ex ford etc. and he said in the early 00s he left toyota because he got too bored as they were too reliable and all he was doing all day was doing oil changes and routine maintenance 😂 id imagine the story was quite different in ford....
Dude I love the wrench knocking 😹😹😹
you got me with the engine knock hahaha
Similar days to yours especially with the Sienna low beam issue. Except with me, the customers usually forget to turn it to "Auto" or turn it on in general. At that point I laugh because I ask myself "do I charge? or not?" I still do because you're dammed if you do and dammed if you don't so just do it.
Those rotors are going to do the same thing in a little while. Once the metal has different hardnesses, machining them flat again isn't going to last long. Could have replaced them faster than cutting them and been done before lunch.
Yeah but would the customer pay the price difference? Probably
They looked warped at the end of the time lapse.
Yea but what customer is going to want to pay 2 hours of labor plus cost of rotors vs just 2hrs labor to get by.
@@LetsDriftMedia We charge 1.5 for rotors at my Toyota, 2 if we're replacing the pads as well
Nissan is 1 hour for discs and pads , customer can buy a brake service which is also a hour , we don't use that machine we just change the parts
Good diagnostic on the defective bulb sir
Yea this made me wanna push towards a auto tech
I'm actually a toyota tech and sometimes it's boring as hell. One day I did 10 gas pump recalls on those corolla. Next week it was on the camry model. Then the highlander.... the worst was the tacoma and 4runner some are different but doing the same job over and over....
I love the thinkdiag code reader I bought for my 2012 Corolla s
How has that been working out? I like that tool but my little pocket tool pulls codes much faster is all.
@@LetsDriftMedia it takes a while because of the wifi and Bluetooth, but it's good. What is the one you have now? Send me the link. Does it pull tpms codes? Lmk.
Love your day in the life video s.. what do you use to run the evaporator test? TechStream? Can you do a video on that?
No joke thats the cleanest shop floor i have ever seen.
You shoulda seen BMWs floor
I have a tacoma just like that it’s a sr5 though and a 5spd. It’s got over 220k on it solid pickups even by todays standards.
Watching this on my day off is making feel like I’m at work lmao
That warranty game on those lower control arms. Classic. Lol. Must of learned it from the OGs.
Same thing I thought. All good until warranty calls you parts back for inspection
excited!!
love the job
I like this dude👍
Really dope content my guy! Any chance you can incorporate what typical going rates or charges are for some of the jobs? Keep up the hustle!
I don’t he is gonna be able to do that ! Specially since it’s not a personal shop ! He would probably get fired if he did
I did do that in my original day in the life but realized it was a bad idea, since customers can see these videos and are going to start questioning why they are paying 2 hrs labor for a brake job when we can complete it in 30 mins. Also I quit Toyota so wont be making anymore of these videos there.
@@LetsDriftMedia revealing the scam that stealerships do to customers? Oops. 🤣
@@webguy943 not really a scam but hey I don’t make the rules
@@webguy943 not a scam , just like a foot race can’t get mad at the guy next to you because he finished quicker even though the couch says everyone needs to finish in a set time to pass. Every job has a set wrench time if you get good at it you can complete it faster. Not a scam it’s called skill/ experience and lots of money in great tools to get it done faster.
I'm going to pursue diploma in automotive service technician & operations and watching this video making me more interested
I recomend NiteEye fanless LED bulbs.
Dang the shirts you guys wear almost look like the ones we get as Toyota forklift technicians 👍
Cool video bro. Oh the sweet dealer life. Quick question…I just did a 3” lift on my tundra stage 5 icon. Any problems that you know may arise from it. I wonder if I need to re-gear. My mpg dropped to like 10.5 and I can feel those heavy 35” tires during acceleration. I’m a dealer tech too but not Toyota.
Work as a tech at Toyota here in Australia and not under the pump as you much as you are but not flat rate tech so abit different
No wonder you wanted a change
Good luck in your new job
Have you worked on the GT 86?
Specifically regarding the clink noise when turning the wheel all the way left or right.
Had my warrantied twice (left and right)
Wow that camry fuel pump engineers actually helping mechanics for once
Question for a Toyota Technician. Is it ok to add fuel additive like TECHRON in Toyota PRIUS?
Great Video
You gotta start making more videos men best I ever seen
Do you think the 2013 tundra and up are the best trucks. Or think there’s many issues like the cam tower leak and so fourth
“that guy that drives into someone’s toolbox” shit LOL!!!
Was there air conditioner at the toyota shop you worked at
And do technicians wear their regular prescription glasses when theyre working. Or do they get work glasses and put in the corrected lenses
Bro the wrench prank just made me piss myself 😂😂😂
What kind of pocket meter do you use and where did you get it and do you think it’s good for a Toyota 4runner
it's like sound "rod knock" 😁
Young man your video is fun
I have a problem with my 2012 lexus es350 high beam not working all parts are working fuses ok wiring on no power to high beam do you have any idea what is the issue.
Man I wish you were the tech at my dealer. 😂 They're giving me a hard time for warranty work because I want to a 275/60/20 instead of OEM 275/55/20. They warrantied the rear end but now won't look at the truck as it has a slight issue still in the drive line. And a idler pulley is loud AF and they told me serp belt has moisture. 18' tundra limited 40k miles, things junk. I miss 90/early 00's Toyota quality.
Yoooo I have the same spider in my drivers side tail light!
