yes I used to positively hate him and his foppish hair, but now, wow he has transformed into a god in my favourite genre. Following Nick Cage down the dark path
@Tyrgermanic That's actually a scary thing IMO. LOL, that's scarier then a scary movie. It's getting to the point I could see in years to come most movies will use Deepfake.
Having gone on a Mormon mission myself as a sister missionary (I don't practice the religion anymore), I will admit there were times that I had fears something like this would happen because we were in the bible belt and in at least one town we were in all the churches in the area were actively against us, it was kinda scary, we were just 2 young girls far away from family and friends with basically no contact with the regular world, that in itself was already scary, add on legitimately hostile locals, ugh, no way, never again. So, even if you don't agree with them, those missionaries are literally children, youngest are 18, it's usually there first time away from home, you don't have to let them teach you anything, I would actually say don't let them teach you anything, it's all propaganda anyways, but be nice to them, give them water if they are outside in the heat, or a snack bar or something,
That was my parents, one time mormans came at our doorstep and my parents felt bad and let them in. A few days later we invited them for dinner and it was a great time.
Reminds me a little bit of when I used to be a delivery driver for a hot wing restaurant. Found myself in a few neighborhoods I wouldn't have gone to on purpose otherwise.
Hugh Grant is amazing but man, i'm so happy to see Sophie Thatcher in a new movie. I absolutely adore her work in Yellowjackets so i'm definitely excited to see what else she does besides doing that series
and now we have to open a new window, google the movie and look it up. not thats it hard, but its just annoying when they could simply put on there "coming December 20" or whatever date
Here in Indonesia where it's a very religious country, I'm sure movies like this will be underrated & slept by people. Few people will probably ever watch such daring & risky film, let alone to deeply understand the messages of the film. I truly admire the filmmaker for being courageous enough to make a bold, non cookie-cutter movie like this! Finally, a high-quality movie that can be discussed deeply & makes people think.
I had the opportunity to watch this movie beforehand, and I won't spoil it, but damn, Hugh Grant is pretty great in this one. He has so much to work with, he has many monologues, and each one is better than the last one; the girls are great too.
at 0:22 there is a diagram of what appears to be Dante's inferno. Really really cool prop but I'm going slightly insane trying to figure out why the diagram has twelve lines in the malebolge and not ten. This is such a minor detail but the diagram is otherwise so intricate that I think I must be missing something
In the heretic’s head, a storm does swell, A call to hear, from heaven’s well. “I am ready,” the voice does cry, “To hear the plan from on high.” Come, little ladies, step inside, Where shadows and secrets choose to hide. Beyond this door, truth waits to see, The plan your Father gave to me. Enter, dare you, into this night, Where the sacred whispers ignite. A world unveiled, dark and grand- Come, and know the Father’s hand.
I can't be the only Latter Day Saint that want's that Book of Mormon. I've never seen anything so cool and cryptic, and I want to see the notes on the inside.
I was actually wondering if the notes were real or if he just stuck sticky notes in random places. LOL. Glad I wasn't the only one thinking about that!
BRAVO to this! This was amazing. A24 rarely disappoints. They are redefining the horror genre with films that make you think. There is a time and a place for ax wielding maniacs, and then there is intellectual horror. These A24 films are never as literal as their trailers. This movie keeps you guessing and was very suspenseful. The first half is a little slow because you’re expecting it to be paced differently due to horror generally moves faster…BUT they are setting up the story and every detail and every piece of dialogue matters later. This gets in your head and in a good way. It challenges people to THINK. The two lead actresses were amazing and I've never cared for Hugh Grant movies, but he is deliciously evil in this. Very well written and highly recommended.
Don't miss your chance of watching this, the movie is so thrilling. I also would like to mention their dialogues, something new. I love everything about this movie.
Actually looks intriguing! No need for the lame, cliche “make fun of Mormons” garbage; Just taking 2 individuals that believe in Christ their way, but into a daunting & twisted situation Absolutely want to see this. Not “expecting” anything though Saw Longlegs w/no “expectations” & the film was fantastic I understand if you were looking for “another Se7en” or “Silence of the Lambs” but I knew “expecting” that or really anything; that can ruin *any* film -anyway again, looks pretty damn good, hope it is
They probably went with that term so that general audiences are more likely to gauge the meaning as many people (myself included) aren't all that familiar with Mormon terminology
Plan to watch this next week. Bring on the non-Catholic Christian psychological thriller 😁 Well known established romcom actors who enter the villain roles are bringing about the scariest performances AND I AM HERE FOR IT!!!

It's nice to see Hugh Grant putting in an effort again. He admitted in an interview that he had this slog of films he made for the paycheck, and you can tell in the performances. But lately he's been back to actual performance and not just being there and going through the motions.
Hugh Grant is in that age category when he is most fitting for the roles of (grand)father, older politician and maniac. Good for him.
