I was their age in 1999 and I can confirm that we did in fact walk around singing Chumbawamba's 'I get knocked down' at every opportunity. How we ever survived as a generation I will never know.
@@BirchTainer It kinda would've though if they hadn't fixed most systems. All our money systems, telecommunications systems and utilities would've gone down worldwide all at once. I worked at Qwest back then as a 411 operator, and they never got around to fixing one of the scrolling announcement boards we had over the entrance door. When 1999 flipped over to 2000, it just started spitting out random numbers, letters and symbols, some that would flash and change mid-scroll. I guess the cost of removing it was too much too since they left it there for a few years. Eeriest way to enter work lol.
I was 14 at that time and I thought it was stupid, but all the adults were serious like "You wont understand because you're just 14 and dont understand electronics". This is a direct quote from a teacher, here is the fucked up part, he was our computer teacher. To me it made no sense like why would shit stop work? yeah I wouldn't understand I was told.. @@NickoSupra I'm guessing your computer teacher was all rude to you like that because he didn't know why 😂 The problem was that it _wasn't_ gonna flip from 1999 to 2000. It was gonna flip from 1999 to 1900. Back when computers and programs were first being built in the 50s and 60s, they didn't use a 4 digit year - they used 19__. Little did anyone imagine that those initial computers and networks would become the backbone of society in fifty years time, so it didn't become clear this was gonna be an issue until the early 90s. Having dates go in order is such a basic function of even hardware that trying to tell any computer system that the past is now the future makes it either glitch horrifically or just shut down. Hence the panic. Everything had to be updated everywhere to stop that from happening - NASDAQ, banks, phone companies, utility companies, TV companies, satellites, government, the military, universities, the burgeoning consumer internet, home computers, etc. It took thousands upon thousands of computer engineers and techs a few years to do, but since they succeeded, everyone thought it was a whole lotta hype over nothing. However, it was only nothing because of them.

Why does everyone hate her
@notoriouswonder9113 It's her crappy attitude people are disgusted with the most 😒.
I was just telling my daughter about the paranoia around New years eve 1999 and she found it hilarious!
I remember being most concerned I'd be called into work to help fix pc issues!
No enya and drew ? pass
This bombed at the box office, but it still looks better than Snow White 2025.
casting zegler here probably killed the movie :P
I can't see this movie doing well. Weird Weird.
😂❤
Don’t give me hope.
How hard would it have been to NOT shoot this on digital? Seriously, the movie would have actual value if it was shot on 2000s era film and converted to digital after the fact for the theaters sake.
I was excited to see a A24 movie trailer... then I saw Rachel Zegler. No thanks.
Hahahaha these people are crying so hard 😂 No one is forcing you 😂
@@tayloralisonswift9544you know they’re in the business of making money right? Lol
This movie looks cool except for one major flaw : Rachel Zegler
I can't believe it took them this long to remake Maximum Overdrive.
I was pumped for this movie till I seen Rachel Zegler was in it
Rachel Zegler is very irritating. Def won't be watching this.
Took the words out of my mouth. She is a gross unbearable woman and shitty actor. Sucks she has to ruin more movies. Jonah screwed up hiring her
I'd love to watch this, too bad Zegler is here.
I was their age in 1999 and I can confirm that we did in fact walk around singing Chumbawamba's 'I get knocked down' at every opportunity. How we ever survived as a generation I will never know.
We getting a kid Laroi cameo 😂
Thats why I came here
@@skillz1299I feel sorry for you.
@@skillz1299hope they find a cure
Wait where?
@@jnnxsorry for what?
The only reason this kinda works is because the actual Y2k fears were just as stupid.
Yeah but they only turned out to be stupid because of the thousands of engineers who spent 2+ years fixing all the computer systems.
@@lunacouer At lot of people thought it would have caused the apocalypse but it would have been more like the crowdstrike thing.
There were absolutely no logical reason as to why stuff would stop working just because it turned from 1999 to 2000.
but hey even when it was proven to be a myth people went dumb af again the last day of 2011.
@@NickoSupra I'm guessing your computer teacher was all rude to you like that because he didn't know why 😂
The problem was that it _wasn't_ gonna flip from 1999 to 2000.

Yes!!!
Rachel Zegler? No! Thank you... I'll pass
