    Looks like our good friend oil pressure drops doesn't seem to be showing up much as he used to. Btw, that microphone setup sounds good.

      Thanks for the microphone comment. I’m dialing in the setup and post workflow for my new dual mic setup. I like that there is essentially no buffeting.
      Yeah oil pressure looks pretty consistent with what we’ve been seeing. There was room for a little more oil to get to 1L over too. But I’m still a bit off the pace at BW so too early to make conclusions there.

    Dear 900BRZ I'm assuming the delay in getting the improved sump to market is IP protection... Hope it comes together soon, I really want one!!! BTW just collected my BRZ after HARROP fitted the SUPERCHARGER: 300hp at the wheels certainly changes the character of the car... goes from love to smitten!

    • @900BRZ

      I don't really think it's IP protection. I know Verus has had a lot of other things going on including Pikes Peak. Harrop SC looks like an amazing product. Hope Verus is able to bring this to market soon!

    Looking good out there! Also glad to see some of your data from a track I frequent the most. Really wish I was able to be there this weekend. I am curious if the setup changes or the tires led to the car looking so unstable? It looked like the car was ready to slide out at almost any opportunity.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому +1

      I think the setup changed the balance for sure and I got used to driving a more understeery car. So I was compensating with more abrupt inputs. I need to smooth those out now that the car is more neutral or oversteer biased. Potentially also BW exacerbated that with all the direction changes. Will be taking it to Thunderhill West and that’s where I’ll really be able to feel the before/after since I’m more familiar with that track.

    Great video/Lap as always :) Quick question for you... Did you find much benefit switching to the Ap racing BBk on a stock power car ? I been toying with the idea of upgrading myself but I am not sure I am at the limit of the stock brakes. Going to temp the calipers at my next track day to see what's what. Thanks

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому +1

      Definitely recommend measuring your temps and also seeing what your pad life looks like. Thunderhill West and Laguna are hard on brakes. West has 1 short straight, so there is very little opportunity for cooling and Laguna has big braking zones. I decided to upgrade after I went through R8s after about 2 track days. My friend had recommended I try a softer compound because the SX2s don't like super abrupt braking, but they couldn't handle the heat. Now I'm running DS1.11 in front with the BBK and XP12 in the rear. The AP kit definitely has a lot better cooling.

      @spareroomracing3168 5 місяців тому

      @@900BRZ Thanks that was very helpful! I guess I didn't think about how high speed some of the tracks are you drive.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому +1

      @@spareroomracing3168 No problem. There are a couple people in our 86 Challenge group who are still on the stock kit and go to the same tracks btw. They tend to use higher temp-rated pads and will do a cooldown lap occasionally. So the other reason that BBK might make sense is if you want to be able to send it for a whole session.

    • @spareroomracing3168
      @spareroomracing3168 5 місяців тому

      @@900BRZ Yeah I am on CL Brake RC6s myself and since my track days are open pits I only tend to do a handful of laps at a time. Maybe I just want an excuse to buy a BBK LOL.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому +1

      @@spareroomracing3168 Haha yeah, if you do want to upgrade, you can go with the Performance Pack Brembos for relatively cheap and the best part is the rotors are inexpensive. The rotor rings for the AP kit last a long time but they are $400 each. Basically everyone I know has ruined a set of rotors by holding the brakes when hot at some point, so it would be nice for that not to be an $800 mistake.
      I did it during a red flag on track where I had to stop on an incline. A better alternative might have been shutting the engine off and leaving it in gear, but then you're going from hot engine temps to off with no cool down. With PP Brembos, that would only be a $150 mistake, so now I recommend that to people upgrading to a BBK for the first time.
      Luckily my rotor-ruining experience was on my factory rotors immediately before I did the upgrade.

      Buttonwillow is a very bumpy track. Additionally, SX2s generate the most grip when they slide a bit, which is what makes them a great tire to learn car control.

    Wow I'm amazed how much it slides, does it have stock toe settings or did you changed the aligment of the car?

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm actually not exactly sure what the stock alignment is but I have a very small amount of toe in. I also haven't got an alignment since last year, so I probably should do that. I think part of the oversteer is due to the setup changes (thicker rear bar, spoiler delete) but also I need to adjust my driving from the previous (understeer-biased) setup. I'm used to making abrupt steering inputs to intentionally induce rotation.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому +2

      I’m off the pace at BW since I have less experience here and I’m adjusting to a new setup. Also grip decreased a lot from the first session and this lap was in the third session. Will need to go back but also my friend Kevin will be the real test here. Overall I’m pretty happy with the pressures I saw though and still could have added more oil to get to 1L over. This was probably around 2/3 L over.

    What's your take on the throttle sensitivity in the first 30% of travel or so? Seems like blending into the power coming out of corners and going over a rise and/or dropoffs was upsetting the car a bit... Although since yours is a BRZ your throttle pedal should be pretty linear. I personally can't understand why Toyota set up the throttle so over sensitive like it is. By far the most annoying thing about the car to me and is really frustrating that I need to pay for a tune and potentially void my warranty just to make the throttle linear so it reacts like one would expect from a naturally aspirated sports car.
    What are your thoughts with your rear tire wear and grip? Seems like the rear is a bit nervous although it's hard to tell from just video whether that's not enough rear toe-in, the sway bar rate increase, or something else like hitting the bump stops or too much compression damping? Would be curious what you think could be refined there so that you don't have to saw away so abruptly at the wheel to counteract the rear nervousness. Haven't had my GR86 on track yet but been thinking about maybe doing a few track days here and there. Thanks.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  5 місяців тому

      Yeah thankfully the BRZ has pretty linear throttle mapping. I posted a visualization of this in this article: 900brz.com/posts/gr86-vs-brz#tuning
      I really dislike that decision in the GR86.
      I think part of the oversteer is due to the setup changes (thicker rear bar, spoiler delete) but also I need to adjust my driving from the previous (understeer-biased) setup. I'm used to making abrupt steering inputs to intentionally induce rotation. So for now I'm going to keep my setup and work on driver mod.

    When you say you run Mobil 1 0W40 FS is that "European formula" oil?
    It seems that European blend relates to some details like lower ash content to comply with European certifications, but it was weird to me and I'm wondering if they also sell a more normal 0w40
