Jacob slid for Cal when LITERALLY no one else would. Obviously Cal made a good amount of choices on his own, but at the end of the day it isn’t his fault his wife cheated on him and put them both in a shitty situation. A lot of people forget that.
I really hated how Cal was treated in this movie. His wife cheated, kicked him out, stole his friend, and then the wife gets mad at him for sleeping with other women after saying she doesn't love him anymore. There is such a double standard when it comes to cheating. It's bad whether the husband or wife does it.
Emily didn’t kick him out. Cal said “I’ll leave tonight, just stop talking about it”. She didn’t steal his friend. His friend’s wife said they had to choose sides. If anything, you should be giving Cal credit for doing what was best for himself in that moment. She also never said she didn’t love him anymore. Dude if you just don’t like women, you can just say that and be truthful, rather than creating your own version of events. In the end, it’s just a movie. Relax.
@@llorona7847 Where do you get "don't like women"? Who needs to relax? You think if Cal did what she did, he would get any slack? All I mean is there is a double standard with cheating and Cal's character was treated unfairly.
@@seangriffin2053 I don’t think he was treated unfairly at all. He left the house on his terms and he went on to do what he wanted. He went on his own journey. He’s the protagonist so he automatically gets the benefit of the doubt. He’s never looked upon as the bad guy.
@@llorona7847 she was never treated as the bad guy which is the problem. It was more so HE needed to do something to bring the spark back . Which wouldn’t be the case if roles switched
"He's alone at the bar. That's so sad, I could never do that". Dude, Gosling is alone at the bar as well. The only difference is he never leaves the bar alone.
I think if you rewatch the movie you can kinda see Jacob’s history based on his behavior, how he talks about how he loves his dad but his mom was always cheating on him and kinda be the opposite of Emily ( who cheated out of feeling out of love) while Jacob’s mom never loved or respected his dad which is why Jacob feels he must be guarded and on at all times
IMO, this is definitely in the top 10 best rom-coms. Where you draw the line between Rom-Com and other genres is a bit fuzzy, so some of the movies I'm about to list may not be considered rom-coms by some people. But here are some top contenders, IMO: When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Joe vs. the Volcano, Sleepless in Seattle, Annie Hall, Notting Hill, The Princess Bride, Groundhog Day, Moonstruck, Sideways, Midnight in Paris, The Wedding Singer, The 40-Year Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, Stranger Than Fiction, and Down with Love.
i love the insane backyard scene ahaha so many great actors in the same fight, it feels like a play Your faces were worth the wait until the moment gosling walks in 29:18 also: jane's face during marissa tomei's meltdown ahahaha 20:33
It's been a good long wait but so worth it, that was a wonderful watchalong with the two of you. And yeah, they don't make em like they used to and this was so well done. Others you might like, even if just on yer own time: A Good Year, Stranger Than Fiction, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Benjamin Button, Aloha...
Unfortunately it’s not Nancy Carell. It’s Beth Littleford. Her and Nancy look incredibly similar. I recognise Beth from being the mom in a few Disney movies/shows back in the 2000s.
The difference between elementary and middle school can vary here in the states. In some parts of the country, elementary school is kindergarden to 5th grade, and middle school is 6th grade to 8th grade. In other parts of the country, elementary school is kindergarden to 6th, and middle school is 7th and 8th grade. High school is always 9th to 12th grade.
I don't know if this classifies as a Rom-Com, I feel like it's too dynamic for that, but if so, it's definitely my favorite one...One of my favorite movies period, really. Great reaction guys. Didn't expect JV to breakdown towards the end there, but that scene with Cal and Jacob in the bar, after finding out about him and Hannah...yeah. But oddly, my biggest laugh came from Jane talking about "Does she think Gnomes do it?" 😂😂😂 That was hilarious.
I really love this film so much!! It truly is a heart felt feel good movie with a beautiful message for all generations now and forever more!!😆😅🤣😂😉😊😇😘🤩😍🥰❤😎👏🙌🙏👍🎉
Did y’all not recognize Marisa Tomei? The English teacher was aunt May in Tom Holland spider-man movies. Also Emma Stones nerdy boyfriend was singer Josh Groban..
Clueless is an odd one because the book it's based on is definitely a rom com but the movie is angled more as a teen comedy. It's both, I guess! Some all-time great rom coms: Four Weddings and a Funeral, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 10 Things I Hate About You, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Moonstruck, Palm Springs, Notting Hill, Bend It Like Beckham (kinda), Bridesmaids (kinda), and finally About Time is a rom com yes but also it will make you weep
14:10 no he doesn't ask them. Its not Do you want to get out of here?, he says Let's get out of here. Also in the US, middle school and Jr. High School are the same thing
To be fair, earlier on (and included in this reaction) he does say "wanna get out of here?", but the string in the montage prior to the Miyagi conversation is "let's".
I did go see it...and I loved it! Oh, fun fact: Marisa Tomei & Julianne Moore are good friends...and then they found out their families are distant relatives!
The first time the tried the run and jump thing from dirty dancing she found out that she couldn't do it. When she was 7 she was in a gymnastics class and was standing on the parallel bars and the teacher let go of her ankles and she fell with her hands across her chest and broke both of her arms. She let Ryan describe what happened and he said it must be like trying to catch a rabid raccoon that has fallen out of a tree. Then they had to stop so she could go watch movie and calm down. After that they used a stunt double for that scene.
If you all liked this you’ll love Date Night with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey. It’s a great rom com with some action as well and they have the best chemistry!
I'm gonna disagree if you're husband or wife cheat on you don't get back together to me that's basically telling you're kids it's okay to cheat on you're spouse because you'll get back together once a cheater always a cheater
at the end the older teen gives her nudes to the younger teen and you act like its a crime when he could just watch porn and do the same thing, and she was underage and about to send it to the father and you had nothing to say abt that.
This is a great movie. Ryan Gosling is such a hottie in it. I would highly recommend "When Harry Met Sally" it is a fantastic funny and romantic comedy.
Have you ever watched any reactions to Forrest Gump? People hate on Jenny all the time. Unnecessarily in my view. She's had a traumatic childhood and doesn't think she deserves love and is on a constant path of self destruction...she's not just schmoozing around on the game 😂 oh and then she dies of a disease. I have no issue with people acting like Ryan in this movie like they're all adults and I'm sure it was half a joke anyway he seems like a responsible man of that lifestyle 🤣🤣 but that's just.....a wild comparison of characters. I'm sure there's loads of other characters you could have thought of hahaha. Also let's not even talk about how generally it's wayyyy more socially acceptable for guys to be out with a different girl every night. They're branded as legends whereas women are branded as sl*ts.
You are valid there Jenny trauma is overridden because we are viewing the story from Forrest perspective. Forrest line about the father depicted the sick nature of her dad and the innocence of Forrest and him not fully grasping it which could have made Jenny feel more isolated and wanting to break free. However the wife in this film is horrible. This film illustrates how females can turn good dudes into dogs. He didn’t become one but her entire reason for cheating was happiness. Her happiness somehow dictated her loyalty to him that’s a big red flag. Why not communicate and help partner understand. They probably thought this was the only way to excuse him sleeping with other women later in the film.
Is it ever right to forgive a cheating piece of garbage? they are garbage but maybe sometimes its ok to forgive them if they truly are remorseful and admit they were completely in the wrong. I mean diverce and date and be upfront about it but cheating is pure piece of shit behaviour. She had kids and still cheated and acted on her worthless, selfish desires.
Elementary school? 😂😂 didn’t we literally just establish that he is graduating from middle school?? Therefore he is starting high school in the fall. Also, junior high and middle school are the same thing (jh is usually grades 7-8 maybe and middle school is just 6-8
I really dislike this movie, but this was a sweet rewatch by you two. I do love certain moments in this movie (pretty much everything with Gosling and Stone), but it's honestly got some really problematic elements. I hate the babysitter stuff -- the stalking stuff is seriously not okay or cute, and then she GIVES THE PICTURE to the child! That's just gross. Cal is a sweetheart of a character but his wife is awful (and a total hypocrite). Not a movie that ages well.
She's 17 and although older, she's not a legal adult and still a TEEN. So she's still a "child" as well and that's how I see her. He's also a TEEN. Just a younger teen.
Cal was so sweet too! The movie tried to convince us that he was an asshole for sleeping around when he was trying to moe on so desperately and his wife did nothing to mend their relationship. This was still one of my favorite romcoms because of Steve x Ryan and Ryan x Emma chemistry. It’s so fun but I always skip the babysitter stuff
