That actually sums up my experience in medical school, studying alot and when I'm doing something else feeling guilty because I'm not studying.
Nicolas Vonder Putten that’s how I feel in nursing school right now 😂😂 I get it 100% it’s like there’s a little voice in ur head telling u u need to study
Pretty much same in Japan
same in Belgium dude
In medical school as a second year preparing for STEP1 now. Grinding very hard though I know it's nothing compared to residency hours. Looking forward to being in the hospital. You're an absolute inspiration Dr. Webb.
Good luck!
adeptsaxophonist hope you ace it. Good luck buddy 💪🏿
studying after a 14 hour shift? jeez how did you prevent burn out?
It is absolutely true that a lot of people struggle in the transition from school to study on your own. But as soon as you manage your own time efficiently you are much more efficient! Great video! And congrats on 100k!
Finishing necessary Pre Med classes and plan to go to med school around 2.5-3.5 years from now , thanks for all these videos , your 18 hour total study sessions you talked about got me going , whatever it takes! 🤙🏼
“Can be challenging” meaning 100% of the time
In regards to your actual video, I struggle with the exact same thing you do. I can never, ever, turn my brain off from work or work related things. I'm lucky that I have a significant other that supports me and doesn't hate me for it. I keep telling myself that it won't always be like this, but I don't think it's true. Motivated people are just on a different frequency.
soooo damn relatable bro I have the same problem and I’m only in college man 🤦🏽♂️ it helps to know that it’s not just me though. keep grinding bro 💯
I work at a major hospital in Boston, MA... I completely understand...
You described it perfectly. At school we were told exactly what we needed to know for the exam. Then we did practice papers, so we were fairly confident of what kind of grade we could achieve on a particular exam. At med school, there were no practice papers. Nobody told you exactly what to learn. So you went in to the exam not knowing whether you would pass or not.
Big up Doctor Webb from Jamaica
I totally agree! The challenge does lie in finding the time to study while You have work and other commitments!
As someone studying medicine in a foreign country, I can definitely say the hardest part so far has been trying to balance medical school with everything else. I'm originally from Florida, and I moved to Pakistan literally a few days before the beginning of my first year. It was just me. No family. No friends. So, without a shadow of a doubt, for me, it has been trying to balance school with living in a difficult environment and new culture. I often try to explain to people that it's almost like having 50% of your brain power available for school and 50% available for the other stuff.
Now, after 4 1/2 years, it's much easier to focus on the important things and do what need to be done... In a way I feel glad that I made the decision to come over cuz I've learned more things about myself at 22 than most other people my age.
One thing I can say definitely helped during the journey was meditation, and just thinking about my circumstances. I also study quite a bit of stoicism and tried to keep my faith which have helped tremendously...
love the videos, you’re so inspiring!
I might be loco but Dr Webb kinda look like Dak Prescott
He also looks like Kevin Durant...turns out they're cousins.
Jeremy Pople really?
@ driedupastrey 19......Yupp, thought the same!!!!.....Dak Prescott.
Very enlightening, Dr. Webb. Needless to say, going to medical school to become a doctor is not for money chasers; obviously you have to be extremely organized and dedicated to providing the best healthcare to patients - even at your own expense!
For me personally...Working and going school full-time while being married and raising our 18mths old son together.
Always feeling like you never having time to studying and/or not organized enough
The amount of years is shocking....but also reassuring.
Not in Medical school but staying on top of studying in putting the time. My college experience has been stretched out immensely because of this.
Well, I am only in college so I am yet to experience the full path.. and I'm going to be a dentist so the material is obviously pretty different. The most challenging part has been learning how to be a student after having not gone to school for 10 years and coming from being a high school drop out. I have all these challenging math classes that are not required for my dental school process and it REALLY pulls my attention away from the classes my school WILL care about. And he is totally right.. my grades are kind of all over the place right now and I really struggle to maintain my GPA. I think that I really need to study more. I do feel guilty when I am not studying. It is really hard to find the motivation to have to study for all these math classes when I just do not care about math. All I have wanted to learn about is teeth.. it is the ONLY reason I went to college. But I need to not just make it through this gauntlet of shit I don't care about but I have to do well enough that I am competitive to get a spot. To get into med school is like being in a class graded on a curve.. which is actually evil. A curve puts you in competition with your classmates. If you get a 92% and it is the lowest grade you essentially fail the test. There are only so many seats into dental school or medical school and so even if you did REALLY well and have all the prereqs to get in, the lower you are on this curve of students the less likely it is that you will get in... Which is a really hard to swallow pill when it is the entire reason you went to school and everything you have worked for. Then suddenly you are told, "sorry, better find a new career path." The amount of stress and pressure I feel is almost more than I can bear.. which is really what this whole process is about. To weed out the ones who can't cut it or think they are just going to float by college and still get into med school. Which is ultimately my problem.. trying to just float by these classes.. and I will need an excuse one day for all these low marks I get.
I wish it wasn’t so expensive to become a doctor
you get as much money for loans as you want because banks know you will pay it back. Nobody is paying for my medical school, and I'll be 300-500k in debt by the end of it all.
Alex good luck to you!
@@godhailmaple but how much do doctors get paid. monthly after tax average salary?
Thank You Dr. Web
Thank you so much for sharing this video.. As always your video is the helpful!
Can you talk about your training and experience as a medic in the air force?
Hardest part is what Dr. Webb said, second hardest is dealing with all the people in my life that don't or won't understand what Dr. Webb said. If you come away thinking that training is temporary and it will be "over before you know it" you just don't understand. The hours NEVER get easier and the responsibilities never get lighter. If you think this is a bad thing, consider doing something else with your life
Thank you for explaining that it takes time to nail down good study habits! This is something that I think students assume it just comes natural or it's something that they'll figure out within a week. It really takes time to learn how someone best studies and what routine works best.
I thought it was just me! It's my junior year of undergrad. I have a job, on a scholarship for my school 's choir, active in 2 organizations, and dealing with health issues. Plus life itself has been full of challenges but I remind myself of my mission daily.
Thank you sooo much. Love from England
Dr. Webb, do you allow shadowing opportunities?
Very insightful video
Hardest part for me right now doubting yourself or your ability or breaking point to make it.
i have a question do you have a video on OR disasters. complications or spinal surgery failures. oh and have you ever later discovered other root causes of spinal pain and nerve trauma. if i had one of my three wishes...id wish for a new skeleton , second wish...no nerves....3rd id want the blue pill...to go back in time before it all happened . Surgery does work and im a firm believer. ive and 3 majors and 2 emergency spinal. i severed my spinal cord got fixed by my one and only hero ...then i was innocent bysttander and was a no fault accident victem . im hurting bad...its the burning in the legs and pelvic area....i have no life...and my neck....noone is helping me.
Is it required to obtain a Bachelors in Biology or Chemistry as a premed degree? Also can you get grandfathered into med school through experience, by being a Paramedic with an Associates in EMS and having BSN etc.
Nicolas Navarro You will need to complete the prerequisites for your desired program and it is usually recommended to obtain a degree in microbiology, biochemistry, or biology. Prerequisites vary from program to program. Paramedics and nurses don’t get “grandfathered in”, however it does look good on most medical school applications to have experience in the medical field.
Can you do a comparison between an M.D & D.O?
doctor mike made a video about it
Yo they gotta nerf residency man who can work 80 hours then study more at home that’s wack. They should extend the residency and make less hours per week and increase the pay
sir I am a second year medical college student... I also want to be an orthopedic surgeon ... can you please tell me about any website/videos where can I find 3D tutorials of bones, viscera, ligaments, joints, attachment of bones ?
Hello I’m not a doctor but I go to a medical high school out in North Carolina. My teacher that used to be a doctor told us to use Orthobullets.com in order to study for anatomy tests and quizzes. They also have information for med 1 and 2 students on the sight. Hope this helps :-)

@@joshuaappah6843 bro can we contact through email/ facebook?
Complete Anatomy. It is an app and also website. I'm not sure if it is high yield anatomy, like you might need in med school but it's def useful
I have a 3rd degree grand theft to my record when I was 20 yrs old. I am now 33 with a 3.8 GPA in BSN, 515 MCAT. Is it legally possible to become a doctor? After several research, It has been said that any applicant with a record cannot prescribe medicine therefore the only medical specialist available would be pathologist. Any help and recommendation will help greatly. Thank you.
I wonder what can be done to ease the Doctor shortage? In Hawaii, with a population of just over a million we are short about 800-900 doctors.
Hi
Wish I could become a doctor. Too bad it's too late for me to. Man I'm jealous.
Sculpin don’t be jealous you can do it.
@@americanpriness1 ehh idk man I'm 27 and I have no money I can't afford it and I have useless criminology degree. I would get eaten alive. I don't have it anymore.
Sculpin still not too late bruh. Trust me I’ve seen older. Nowadays the average age in med school is also higher. And I’ve met physicians who started out later than you. And, with regards to money, almost everyone takes out a loan. The most important thing is that you have to make sure that this is what you really want. Like they say, those who say they can and those who say they can’t are both usually right... something like that.. you get the gist lol
@@user-nu3el2mo2w I guess your right. I'll have to look into it more. I don't even know how or where to start the journey. Thanks!
@@averagebloke4474 don't be so negative! I wholeheartedly believe that it's not too late for you. I'm trying to get into med school for 3 years now and I still haven't given up. Please don't give up either. Everyone walks a different path and what matters the most is what you want. If that's what you truly want, then go for it.
I thought this was a video about "being" a doctor.
I’ll just become a nurse
llExcusesll nursing school is no Sunday drive either 😂
