I feel like she spoke to me also!!! I'm going to also look into this field! I've always been told I would have to give up being a wife and mother and being Nigerian American & nontrad premed I've had my share of discouraging moment (especially with our chem dept professor) but now after seeing this I'm not giving up!! Thank you so much Dr. Webb and Dr.Khan!!
She is making upwards of $700k! I know it’s not about the money, but that makes it better 😬🤗. She seems so nice and cool! Would love to shadow under her!
I have a pacemaker/defibrillator and have had a septal ablation for HCM, and I hope to become a physician myself in part to reciprocate the care that I have received from my cardiologists growing up. As I will begin medical school later this year, my public health education has me leaning toward pursuing primary care, but I owe my appreciation for medicine and my ability to pursue medicine to cardiologists and cardiac electrophysiologists. It is a tough but very rewarding specialty.
I loveeee her already! Makes me want to study harder and finish my Medical laboratory scientist as an undergraduate and be a licenced ASCP then med school after in the future
For all that training, I'm glad they're getting well compensated. I also didn't know this was a subspecialty of cardiology. I just assumed general cardiologists did these procedures. Thank you Dr. Webb for bringing this to our attention. I love Dr. Khan for the encouragement at the end. Great guest. Thank you Dr. Webb and thank you Dr. Khan for the message. Can I make a request for a medical oncologist or adult heme/onc doctor?
I am a 30 something mom almost done with medical school. I have been thinking I cannot do what I want bc of my gender and family life. This wonderful doctor has really changed my mind. I wish I could really pick her mind about how she balanced her personal life.
I don’t think people truly understand what comes with the work of being a doctor! They believe that there is not a lot of work done in regards to studying. Just focusing on the money... which is why half the people will look at this video. This is because the doctors have studied the hard stuff and come into our rooms telling us about our problems in a dumber format. That’s sooo many years of school, I could barely handle 4 and have 2 more to go. I love that you were able to interview doctors that are not recognized in the media as much. Also, please remember that a lot of paperwork is done behind the scenes.. I interned for a doctor and goodness gracious... it was a lot to handle
I love this video. I have recently wanted to become a cardiologist, but after finding this video I will be a Cardiologist-Cardiac Electrophysiologist. After dropping out of community college for three consecutive semesters, I have decided to go back and it's go big or go home. A few reasons I have decided to take the doctor route is because I recently found a UA-camr by the name of Violin MD, fantastic channel and would recommend you binge her videos, but I also want to get into this field because my family has a serious history with heart problems. My great-grandmother died in 2009 from heart complications, my great uncle had a heart attack and then a stroke within a short period of time, my uncle has cardiomyopathy, and my grandfather recently had a heart attack a year ago. I feel this field is where I will shine the most. I only regret not coming to this realization sooner, but everything happens for a reason and I believe that hitting my lowest point will help me to stay determined and fight for what I want. I needed that break to get mentally well and I'm glad that I'm now in a better place to pursue my dreams.
Yeah I get your points but I’m just saying doctors in other countries don’t earn as much despite just as much training or even longer in some places like the UK!
eduardo santos Its only 4 years EXTRA of school (medical school) what are you guys talking about. You start geting paid 50-60k a year averagely during residency. Which starts right after you complete medical school.
This interview was beautifully conducted. I like her encouraging words for minority women. I am a new grad nurse about to start in the ER...I will look into the cardiac catheter lab and the electrophysiology specialty. If I like it, that’s where I will stick.
Y’all are really mad that she’s making a lot of money? But you don’t dare say this about basketball players, kardashians, or any celebrities, or hedge founders or CEOs. Wtf are they doing for anyone?! And you come for this woman? I am in NP school now and this infuriated me. I was a pharmacy technician for almost 6 years and it’s insurance companies that are the real blame. Try calling an insurance company and asking them to explain why a patient has a donut hole, or why a 75 yr old on Eliquis can not afford his copay...they can’t even explain it in normal terms. Family practice does not make a lot of money because their field is saturated...the same goes for FNPs. The more specialized the more training the more income. Shame on all of you!
I loved this! Everything she said about representation is so true. And she seems so supportive and reassuring. Exactly the kind of content that I love. This kind of encouragement is what keeps premeds going. Thanks for this!
I’m becoming an EKG monitor technician and I love learning about the sa node/pacemaker and the electrical impulses within the heart. Someone told me to look into this. I’m 24 years old and I would love to see myself becoming this in my life.
Electrophysiology and the study of the electrical system of the heart is truly amazing! This is exactly the specialty I want to go into. Thanks for sharing Dr. Webb! ❤️👍
I also would like to become Cardiologist along with Cardiac Electrophysiologist. Dr. Khan, you are one of the great women who influences all around the world.
Once again are. Webb, you have outdone yourself. I was initially hesitant to even watch this segment because I assumed I had no interest in this specialty. However, after listening to Dr. Khan, anesthesia may have some competition. Dr. Khan is extremely personable and very encouraging. I can tell she has excellent bedside manner and is a joy to work with in the OR. She has definitely inspired me and shown me that it is possible to have a rewarding career in medicine and have a family. Dream BIG. That’s exactly what I’ll do Doctor. Thank you! This was solid GOLD!
One of the things that people may overlook because she seems so simple and down to earth. These people are amongst the most intelligent on earth. She makes it sound very doable. I remember talking to my cardiologist one day. He described a day where he was starting his electrophysiology residency. When the new residents introduced themselves... every single one of them was the valedictorian of their high school class! That is not uncommon for the subspecialties that earn around a million dollars a year. Its genius level work. Doesnt mean whoever is reading this is shut out... just be realistic about who you will be learning with.. and keeping up with.
This was truly inspiring! Thank you for sharing. Wish I had this type of speaking in high school I wouldve jumped at the opportunity. High Schools need this type of dialogue with people who reflect and look just like them. Thank you 💕
Wow thanks so much for sharing this video! I used to watch T.L.C. allll day when I could to watch surgeries of all kinds and knew i LOVED human hearts and wanted to be a Cardiologist ✨ this was my sign to keep going. I’ve become a mom so I felt like my dream was unrealistic. This was just the push I needed. It’s crazy how total “strangers” can give the much needed support that relatives can’t/don’t/wont. Thanks❤️
Thank you. I wanted to be a electrophysiologist from when I was young. Your words have made me think that the career I am choosing is going to be the best.
I'm filipina and I'm 13 yrs old. I also want to be a cardiologist but i think it's too hard. But I'm always praying that i will be a succesful cardiologist soon.
My Uncle is an Electrophysiologist and I just understood now the hardship he went through to be where he is. I hope I could be a successful doctor someday.
Hey if possible can you please tell me how many years did it took him to become Electrophysiology After medical school would you get paid when doing specialities etc ? And is it worth it ?
This video is very interesting. This is one field I was doing research on pursuing. She is very well spoken and explain her career in detail plus the salary I didn’t expect to be that high.... thanks doc... more video on sub specialties in cardiology
Thank you very much for this precious interview ❤️ I was so puzzled trying to decide on which specialty to pick and his video convinced me that Cardio shall be the right one for me 😊❤️
Wow that is awesome based off reading online about cardiac electrophysiologists I never saw anyone mention they perform procedures/surgery, that is amazing
3.5 to 4 years for MD/General Surgeon. Depending on where you go for specialty Cardiologist could be 1.5 to 3 years and Electrophysiology could be 1 to 2 years or a combination training with general surgery for a total of 5 to 6 years with 2 to 3 years paid. Dream Big!!! You can do it, just not with poverty stricken and hustlers. Your knowledge is your wealth.
Wow!! I really loved this video!! Thank you doctor Khan👩🏻⚕️!! You inspired me a lot 😍🙌🏻 Dream big!! I am from Perú and my dream is to become a cardiologist❤️
Dr Hafisa it is a honor to follow you at Clubhouse . You are an example and inspiration to all women Cardiologists around the globe . Thank you ! Thank you very much !!! Mônica
I born to be a cardiologist and not just that the same fellowship that you choose. Love this interview god bless you and keep encouraging people to make true their dreams. I hope I can meet you in person.
Dr. Khan's one of my favorite instragram docs. Always so insightful and open to help! Thank you Dr. Webb for making this video! Both of ya'll are great inspirations!
i know i want to be a doctor, either a dermatologist or orthopedic surgeon... but this is interesting to me. i don’t really care about how much i make, i just want to help people
eduardo santos but if you think about it it’s sooooo worth it. Imagine going to school for 12 more years than you would for a 50k a year job and making 700k 😂
But I mean what else do we have to do? Go into the work force and struggle for the next 16 years without a light at the end of the tunnel? I think I would much rather know that when I am done, I am done with an awesome prize of purpose and compensation.
Dr.Webb, I know your channel is based on the life of doctors because of your profession. Would it be possible if you did an interview with a nurse practitioner?
I love her voice. It’s so soothing. I imagine her patience must feel reassured every time she talks! Go women!!!!
Thanks Blandine!
I was thinking the same thing, it’s like a beautiful ASMR
I might just become a Cardiac- Electrophysiologist I feel like she’s speaking to me. Representation everywhere!
You got it! 💪🏾
@Roy_Thousand okay but she didn't mention money anywhere??
I feel like she spoke to me also!!! I'm going to also look into this field! She so down to earth and humble!
I noticed the same thing speaking to her! Such a kind hearted woman
She is making upwards of $700k! I know it’s not about the money, but that makes it better 😬🤗. She seems so nice and cool! Would love to shadow under her!
Thanks Jenny!
For real nobody would go through 10+ years of rigorous school just for the fun of it
Aldo Ruiz 16 yrs*
@@aldoruiz5683 They would for a 700k and guaranteed employment for life.
Jenny Steward honestly I feel like its still too much because that means the patients pays more for something that should not this insanely expensive.
She’s amazing, I love how she encourages others!
Thanks Jerome!

“... if you don’t see yourself represented, you don’t know that that’s possible for you...”
My Shero.
bruh she did her fellowship in harvard and masters in MIT
I love what she says about family medicine deserving of more recognition

The higher you go in specialization, the narrower the amount that you have to know...that's an amazing point, never thought about that.
I love this video. I have recently wanted to become a cardiologist, but after finding this video I will be a Cardiologist-Cardiac Electrophysiologist.

Awesome! You can do it! ❤️
She could be a therapist. So soothing and is such a mom. 👍🏼
Cardiac electrophysiologists are really out here earning $700,000-750,000??? Doctors are balling in the US for real lol.
I mean they work hard for it
It's intellectually demanding
Ghanaboy. PharmD And also the average medical school graduate has over $230k in student loans to pay for.
For 16 years of school I don’t blame her making 700k
Yeah I get your points but I’m just saying doctors in other countries don’t earn as much despite just as much training or even longer in some places like the UK!

She is amazing and well spoken. This is great video, thank you for making it .

I’ve always wanted to become a Thoracic Surgeon... until I spent 23hrs in the OR, I was like nope. I am now pursing GI. I love it!
She definitely one of the most humble doctors I know or I've seen
“If you don’t see yourself represented, you don’t know if that’s possible for you.” Great quote!
I agree!
Indeed!
Minority here pursuing cardiology.
She’s such an inspiration.
