Fire spinner is one of the best plants I have on my property. I started with three small plants, and I have it all over my property. It spreads so quickly. I've tried to grow other ice plants, but I haven't had as much luck with them as I've had with Fire spinner. It literally glows when it's in bloom. I love it.

Is Aptenia Cordifolia (baby sun rose ) edible? If so, is it nutritious? I can't find any information on it's nutritional value.

Nice! I'm hoping to plant some "Fire Spinner" in my little rock garden this year. :)

Mr. Kelaidis says that these are easy plants to grow. If it were only true. I've tried many times, several varieties, and the only one that I've had success with is the original hardy yellow. The others lasted for the season, and never returned. I don't think my yard gets enough sun but even in the same location as the yellow, I couldn't get anything else going. The spectacular colors keep making me want to try, though. In the situations where I've seen them doing well they definitely like rock garden like settings, which my garden is not.

+erikehlert- They do best in full sun (at least 6 hours) and in well-drained soils, especially in winter. The newest one, Alan's Apricot, might do well for you. It seems to tolerate part shade and blooms most of the summer. Still needs the drainage, though.
