I’m not a ford man… that being said most of the ford guys I know don’t really rate the old cobra all the highly… however, I have abit of a soft spot for the thing. That was the best 1:58:22 I spent for ages. Loved every minute Howard, so please don't apologise for going over. There's no such thing mate. Make them as long as you need to. I'd still watch it even if it's 3 hours ! Amazing build. Truly magnificent. Thanks for taking the time to put this together and give a big thank you to Louise too, who I assume is still editing these videos. 👌👍
Absolutely awesome Howard. I have a xm coupe that my wife and I love. Had it when I was 17. Lost it for awhile. I'm now almost 60 and slowly bringing it back. You are most certainly a inspiration.. Cheers Paul and jill
the detail and time taken to bring this back to original is absolutely amazing. your detail and workmanship on car builds regardless of custom or authentic is on another level well beyond most.

Keep up the great work, I look forward to this coming Friday for the next one.
Another awesome video guys. Absolutely love it. One day I hope I’m in position to track down my Dads number 136. I still remember crying in my room as the new owner drove off in it and me yelling out, chop my legs off Dad, I’ll fit in the back then!
No problem with the length of the video, I just watched it in two parts. That part about the window switches was very helpful for a build I'm helping a mate out with. Cheers.
Another great build Howard I'm going to miss thursday,s when you finish with the build series what I find hard to believe is that you never did panel work as a trade outstanding talent I will meet you one day cheers
Great video and insight into the work involved in this kind of resto. I fell that you’ve saved more than one car here! By that, I mean you’ve encouraged blokes who don’t know what’s involved, to leave their cars in one piece. If you’ve got a project and you really don’t have the skills or time, sell it to someone who does and go buy something that you can enjoy straight out of the box.
Good job boys enjoy these build series . Good to see 2 older blokes talking sence, having a bit of a laugh on the way and respecting these older classics.
Just watched the 400 Cobra build and loved it. Just starting my own little restoration/ project car shop in Barick Heights and you are an inspiration to me and so many others. Take care and hope to catch up one day for a chat. Johnno from John’s iron works
I'm loving the build series videos. A very fitting finish to the last of the last XC Cobras. As a kid, I returned from living in the UK to see the Cobras racing at Bathurst. Something I'll never forget. Howard, yet again you've done an amazing job finishing #400 as it should have been done.
A few points, the videos could never be too long, thank you, I absolutely love watching them. When I see the cars go into epoxy primer it’s so satisfying. I wonder how difficult it was to get the blue sticky stripe to bend around the front wheel guard. Thank again to everyone who puts these together.
Stunning video. I own Cobra 349 It 90% original. I have kept the original parts I have replaced. All hardtop owners are horders. I went to school with the production manager at ford in the 80’s and 90’s When Ford announced the end of Hardtop production. The NSW police department ordered 200 XC 351 Hardtops. They were built after the Cobras. He said the only time the complete production line had the same specification car from start to finish.
Someone has probably already mentioned it below, but a correction. There were 400 all up, 200 351's and 200 302's. I had #181 which was 351 auto, all electrics and aircon. Love to know where it is now, last I heard it was in Ballarat Vic. I sold it in 1992. Thanks for doing this. An interesting watch that induces many happy memories.
The fact that it’s number 400 does it for me, in my eyes way more significant than number 1… what we’re looking at here is LITERALLY fords final fairwell to the golden age of Aussie muscle cars… the very last of its vintage
re the door SIBs (Side Intrusion Beam/Bar). I had an early XA ute which didn't have any. A later XA van which had the same SIB as an XB (thin and bonded to the skin) and a late XB ute which also had the same thick SIB as the XC's. I'm assuming that they are are a result of the build dates meshing with the ADR's covering SIB's which came about early to Mid 70's..The SIBs in the XC's were monsters compared to the ones found in late XA's and early XB's
Hi Howard, thank you for the time and effort you put in for these videos! I'm a Ford freak and love all Aussie Ford's. There is a lot more to these cobras that I first thought. Lots of info on GT's but the Cobras a little overlooked, thanks again for sharing all your knowledge. Well done and keep up the awesome work you do 👍

Another awesome episode guys 🙌 but the reality that this was the second last video of the build videos set in as I finished watching 😥 hurry up with the van videos Howard 😆
It’s interesting looking back on things and times gone by, around 1995 a red 351 manual XC GXL square headlight 4 door sedan turned up at my workshop for a new blue slip reregistration inspection, he had bought it for $50, it was straight and clean, but closer inspection revealed a need for 4 shock absorbers, complete exhaust replacement, front brake o’haul, brake master cylinder, new tyres and a few other odd jobs, he couldn’t afford all that. So I disregarded all the account owed to that point, and gave him $100 dollars for it. After fixing all those things I registered and used it for six months, then sold it for $1,000, that was an excellent profit back then, but it didn’t sell easily, the V8 was out of favour in those days. Another one I wish I’d kept till now.
@@AstillDesign The only reason I was interested, it was a 351 GXL Fairmont and manual, possibly only a few dozen of them were manual, it would have been a very rare order I would think.
