⚠️Very important announcements to everyone: Please don’t forget to follow the generator safety tips when you use your portable generator. This is just a reminder to make sure. All generator safety rules need to be followed carefully whenever you use your portable generator. 1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards. 2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house. 3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules. 4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords. ua-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/v-deo.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators Hope this helps
Thanks for the comment! Great to hear you are so self-sufficient, and a generator is a key part of that! Be sure you keep to the service schedule, especially up to the 1st 500 hours, as this is when a new generator is settling in. Oil changes are essential to protect the engine from the metal shavings produced during this process. We have a video to show you servicing processes on Gas Generators: ua-cam.com/video/ioAgCqPhUfg/v-deo.html FYI... We also have online guides for fault-finding on www.generatorguru.com/need-help/ if you every have a breakdown or want to know about maintenance. If the answer you need is not there, we will connect you with a generator engineer. Keep an eye out on our channel and subscribe as we have more videos we are working on ATM which might help too. We are always happy to help. :) www.generatorguru.com
Thanks. Quick question - do I need to remove the battery terminals to the generator before charging the battery? Can I simply attach the charger clamps to the existing setup (battery installed)
We are aware many people do charge them while fitted, but we prefer to remove it. This gives me a chance to get the best connection from the charger and allows me to inspect the battery properly. :)
Good video. I have a new battery to install on my generator, along with a Battery Tender. Generator is never used, except in the chance of a Florida hurricane. Question: can the o ring cable on the tender be attached to the new battery when I install it? Should the tender be removed if the generator is in use?
We know many people use them, but... we must admit we feel they are over used by many people. For most of our careers people have just disconnected the battery when not in use, and then connected it up about every couple of months (minimum 2 or 3 times a year) to run the generator and top the battery up. This method also prevents the engine from seizing, gives you an opportunity to check all is running correctly, and will agitate the fuel and keep it fresh, so has other advantages too! If you want to use one, we suggest to follow the manufacturers instructions as they might vary. Hope this info helps! Kind regards The Generator Guru Team
Good video, thanks. I've just got a new generator and I have a blue cable to the right of the battery where I would expect to see a black one, is this still a neutral?
Please set up a support ticket via our website www.generatorguru.com, and our engineers will be happy to guide you. Please be sure to tell them the Brand and Model when you contact us. :)
While it is possible to charge it while it is still in situ with the engine turned off, it is far safer without a connection! To do this, remove the negative lead (this is the black one) before the positive (the red) one. This will break the circuit and make it safe for charging. Or.... If you are unable to disconnect the battery leads at the battery, you can always disconnect them by the other end of the wire. These often are easier to access on some generators such as super silent units, or built-in units. Hope this helps! If you need more advice, why not set up a ticket with our Engineers? They are always happy to help! generatorguru.zendesk.com/hc/ :)
My battery has about 12.1 volts on it. Although it starts and runs just fine when using the pull cord, the electric start function does not even turn over...nothing....not a glimmer. I've taken the control panel off, checked for loose wires and found nothing unusual. The gen sits for long periods and I've owned it for 10+ years. I do twice a year maintenance runs and the oil is fresh. Just this last time the electric start wouldn't start the engine.

I have a Generac GP7500E I bought in 2016. What would cause the voltage output to jump to 155 to 160 volts? Can this be fixed, if so how do I fix it? Thanks
Hi, I have a charging issue in my generator kindly help me to resolve i have a3 2.5kva generator and its have a 35AH lead acid battery battery is good but, Issue is when i put charged battery first time after generator self start its charging the battery but stops charging on 13.6v then after some days battery charging voltage goes down and end up the voltage on around 12.8 to 12.9 not going more than this so then i remove battery and charge it then place it again after that same thing happens again n again 1. why my generator didn't charge my battery upto 14v and why its going down charging end voltages day by day battery still good. Thanks
Hi! We need a bit more info about your generator to provide you the best advice. Please contact our engineering team and we will get the specialist on your generator to look into the issue for you. :) generatorguru.com/need-help/
Check your battery Charging Rectifier has an output. For full testing see our documentation here: generatorguru.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/10734046667548-Battery-Keeps-Losing-Charge
If you get into the circuit after the coil pack then youll get a good jolt of a few thousand volts.. like if you were holding a spark plug wire as the engine is cranking or running then youll feel it in your elbow... some of the older cars with an omnispark system could actually kill a person and has a bunch of times.. but the most youll get from any 12v battery is either acid or electrical burns.. those fuckers do explode now and again from hydrogen gas build up which will throw sulphuric acid all over you, which wont be too good for the eyes or skin..
Thanks for the video! We live off grid so learning about generators is important to us!

My duramaax generator needs a battery. 6DM7 is number. No details. is it 6 voly or 12 voly?
Sorry... They seemed to have stopped producing them. But we have a selection which will happily start your generator. :) generatorguru.com/batteries/

Hi I wonder if you can help me with my generator every thing works but I'm getting 28 dc volts at my battery cables
You need to change your battery charging rectifier. :)

Yes, you need to replace the AVR. Can be bought here: www.generatorguru.com/gp7500-gp7500e/
We can’t be electrocuted from 12 volts dc
Ok.. I agree that "shocked" might have been a better description. :)
Thank you she tried to scare me!
True that
Cute cat!
Yes, he was supervising.. like a cat should! lol

@@Generatorguruhello my gen
My battery died on my 4400 Gen. Im going to plug in trickle charger to generator while it’s running. Simple
Imagine my surprise, no power to batt leads through the generator. Why doesn’t it have one built in.., makes no sense, on purpose???
Check your battery Charging Rectifier has an output. For full testing see our documentation here: generatorguru.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/10734046667548-Battery-Keeps-Losing-Charge
Why would you say you could get electrocuted if you touched both battery terminals.?
You are correct, "Electric Shock" would have been a better description. Thanks for the shout out. :)
Nobody gets a shock on 12V same on 24V . 😂
@@Witschor I don't get shocked and most people don't either but my father claimed he did and I have talked with others that say they get shocked.
