I really liked that we get to play as military in Call of Pripyat. It does a lot to humanize them, when in the previous games they were solely enemies and all character had to come from documents and whatnot.
I think it may have been due to the cuts. Otherwise there is no real reason to make special models for military officers, as well as make outposts so detailed
years ago i read that the military's stance towards stalkers in soc & cs was because of irl ukraine's political condition, including their irl military at that time, so stalker was a satire/critics from the developers (look how they make the military as corrupt and annoying for the players, especially after you're exiting swamp). but everything changed since cop. idk what really happened in irl ukraine during cop's development, i have little interest in foreign politics. and take this information with grain of salt as idk if the source was reliable (because i even forgot where i read that). but i think the military has changed more in stalker 2 since the russian invasion, especially since one of the cs dev (or maybe more) was killed near bakhmut in dec 2022 (rip loki, from anarchist to joined military for actual freedom). i need to wait to play or at least watched the full walkthrough to understand the story instead of just watching the trailers.

Okay, let’s take a look at the accomplishments of the Ukrainian military in the zone: Failed basically every single operation they ever conducted Failed all rescue attempts except one Says they want to stop the stalking phenomenon, but they’re the reason why it’s still growing Indirectly created duty. CS: Failed to gun down a merc in clear sky armor with a PKM Leaves a squad to die in their own warehouses Gets their asses kicked in middle of Limansk and loses a helicopter SoC: Wiped out small loner faction in the cordon Sets up a base in Agroprom. Tries to kick out a group of loners near the second building in agroprom(failed) They get their base wiped out by the marked one who was armed with a modified AK-76 and a regular sunrise suit Raids X-18 to get the documents, again failed Gets their documents stolen in their checkpoint Tries to take over radar after the brain scorcher was shut down, failed Once again assaults the CNPP in Operation Monolith, once again get completely wiped out by a mega-emission CoP: Launches Operation Fairway, do I even need to say what happened here? Survivors of the operation get holed up in a laundromat in Pripyat They are then saved by Major Degtyarev and takes strelok with them and a gauss rifle too And that’s it for now until stalker 2 releases I know I have missed a couple of things but in conclusion: This is probably the most incompetent military in any video game ever.
One has to wonder what might change in Stalker 2, particularly if the devs decide to move the timeline far enough forward that they might be able to make reference to...certain events that had happened in Ukraine from 2014 onwards, which led to a still-ongoing overhaul of the Ukrainian military.
I always think that the military is the counterpart of the mercs, they want to uncover the zone's secrets, they are organized and disciplined, they are distrusted by nearly everyone in the zone, their gear are more advanced than any other faction (on par with monolith) and they don't know much about the zone, with only their superior training keeping them alive instead of becoming worm food. While every faction has their own reason for assaulting CNPP after Strelok disabled the brain scorcher, most of the reason is about reaching the wish granter, but I doubt the military is interested in the zone's myth like that, instead, the reasoning behind military's assault on CNPP could be to uncover the monolith's secrets (maybe for revenge for their soldiers that got massacred in Yantar?) and potentially, another underground labs beneath the CNPP after their encounter with monolith These guys are probably the most annoying to fight, especially during early game, second only to high profile mutants or elite monoliths. They used advanced weapons that hurts a lot, their armor is far better than your bog-standard bandits and they have a tendency to use grenades more often than anyone. About the only saving grace is that they are not as spread out in the zone as other factions and the loot you get after killing them is substantially better than looting bandits
"Disciplined" is being generous to the Army. They're stated outright in the games to be corrupt and have terrible morale, or at least the rank and file are. Spetsnaz personnel like Degtyarev are another matter.
Well they're lucky because in stalker call of pripyat at the end of the game they found someone called strelok the guy who went to the center of the zone
I don’t think they want to “uncover” anything, that’s more of Freedom’s mission. Theirs is to keep it all a secret (or at least minimise the leaks), because people might rebel if they knew what kind of fuckery was allowed in Chernobyl. They’re soldiers of the government, after all, don’t forget.

I kind of wanted to start writing a story about Stalker using existing lore but also adding my own ideas.. One of those ideas was that the military is partially responsible for stalker population in the zone. Sidirovich and the military are cooperating in that regard where Sid gets the military to turn the blind eye on a novice getting smuggled in the zone (rookie village) for a fee which Sid then gets back triple full by tasking those same novices to do tasks for him.
I just want to add that "Military" as defined in the game is a confusing term. All of the patches and mentions actually are not about army, but about two different structures. Army (military) is Ministry of Defense. SBU (Sluzhba Bezpeky Ukrayiny, СБУ) aka SSU (State Service of Ukraine) is a structure on it's own and is under authority of the President of Ukraine. Another structure which is labeled as "military" in the game is Ministry of Internal Affairs (you can see МВС on patches - Міністерство Внутрішніх Справ). To understand what this ministry is, one of the biggest structures under Ministry of Internal Affairs is what is nowadays a national police (it was militsiya back in 2006). Both SSU and police can be and are militarized when needed, and have their own special forces (spetznas - term from USSR, in russian - specyalnogo naznacheniya, translated as "special purpose [forces]"), but they are not army.
The Military really serve as the enemies the player first encounter in SoC and CS. They are indeed a tough faction to deal with and the whole story behind is quite interesting. GJ man!
Great work! Threre aren't many good stalker lore videos, especially in English. I swear i could listen to you for hours, talking about faction's equipment is also a nice touch. Thanks for your work, you got me hyped to play stalker again.
The reason as to why they're so corrupt and suck at their job is because it's a security service, not a National guard or active duty service, they're more of a counter-terrorism/civil unrest fotce than a military, they get poor pay and funding, and most of the equipment they're sent from ghe military is pretty terrible or in already bad condition except maybe the T64s which are all but abandoned since the REAL military pulled out. Only thing going for them is the units such as spetsnaz and the helicopters/vehicles from outside of the zone, personally I think Berkut (State Security Servicr of Ukraine) is gonna be disbanded and replaced with fhe Ukrainian national guard like they do irl, or the real military.
Really digging your lore videos. Hope your channel blows up (not literally) someday. I'm so hyped about Stalker 2, been waiting for over a decade now. Are you going to make Stalker 2 videos once it comes out and you managed to gather lore about it?
Another amazong video. Your breakdown of the military operations is on poimt and very detailed, there were some details I wasn't aware off. I'm hoping this channel is going to br big with all the stalker fans and the release of the sequel people are only going to be more Interested in the secrets of Th Zone. Awesome editing and very discriptive and detailed explanations of the events to gomalong woth it. This is by far the best Stalker related channel on UA-cam.
I would not be surprised if the military were the ones who also hire the mercenaries. Since they can deploy undercover agents. It is also funny that with their resources and connections they still struggle with the zone. There are supposedly vehicles able to operate in the anomalous areas inside the zone, modofied by the stalkers such as Cardan, it is revealed in the outro. But who's the final enemy if the c-conciousness was destroyed.
My current playthrough of Anomaly is a Ukrainian Spetsnaz operator; but since there’s no IWI Tavor 21 nor an IWI Tavor X95, I had to convert a HK SA80A2 to 5.45x39mm Soviet to be close enough to a replica of the licensed Fort-221 carbine
in soc, most of the time i killed the whole guards under the bridge or passing them through the broken fences (near space anomaly if it's in cs). but surprised when i actually can bribe them with only 500 rubles lol. and idk if it's true or not but if you pass the bridge with bribe, sometimes later you'll find the rookie village was wiped out by the military, so in the end i always choose to shoot them (at least you can sell their loots and 74u is always a better choice than bandit mp5). 74u changed my early gameplay before i can get strelok's fast ak.
Great video, very interesting, The military is one of my favourite factions next to the Ecology, and Mercs. Playing the Alife Warfare mod for Anomaly as Military (With tweaked values) and controlling the entire zone felt somewhat very immersive, as though it was their final push. With Dynamic Relations, they teamed up with the Mercs, and even Freedom for a bit before I ultimately had to cut ties with Duty, then relations failed with the Mercs and Freedom. In the end It was just myself, and the Ecology, and I regretfully had to Order 66 them, personally assassinating the scientists to ensure the knowledge never leaves the Zone. I gunned down the final scientist as he fled while I was listening to Firelake to really embrace that feeling of emptiness and "I'm only following orders, I'm sorry."
I think a big step for the military in the right direction would be establishing some sort of intelligence network inside the zone. Informants, spying on communications, or working closer with ecologists. Many of their downfalls come from a lack of information about the zone. If they had a better understanding they could approach the zone with some tact instead of just slamming their troops into it and hoping to come out victorious. Unfortunately the only time they seem to adapt is after a catastrophic failure. We'll see what their plans are in STALKER 2
Yes, I believe you are right. Maybe the authorities will allow more contacts with stalkers aimed at learning the Zone, especially after the success of Major Degtyarev. Hiring Strelok as a consultant was also a step in that direction. Anyway, hope to see new videos from you soon!
Just slapped the army base close to newbie base in SoC - am I the only one who got a shot with sawn off from like 50-60 feet, I thought I was a hacker hahaha
12:16 i see what you did there... There is rumor that some individual helped the Ukrainian authorities to obtain such maps... He had strange nickname like Eagle or Sapsan or something like that
@anomalousdugout9557 yeah bra that's why even in the video they mention the dealings between Duty and military. Their philosophies are aligned in that they are both opposed to the zone
Duty was founded by ex-military who got left behind during the first military containment expeditions of the mid-2000s, they are on friendly terms @@anomalousdugout9557
The military is like the second mercenary faction, only that this time, they kill every single faction other than Duty and the Ecologists, since they want to find information in documents, conclude experiments in the zone, et cetera.
Interestingly (for me, anyway), the State Security Service of Ukraine, usually referred to by the Ukrainian initialize SBU, is not quite the military. It’s more of a successor to the Soviet era KGB.
Military realistically would steamroll everyone, ik the Ukrainian army in 2012 was substandard and kinda outdated, but they still had powerful firepower.
One thing that always confused me was why a lot of regular Army grunts are seen with AKS-74U's. Now sure, rare weapons are relatively well represented in the Stalker franchise, but considering these are regular soldiers from a real military force that actually exists, how many of them carry AKS-74U's is quite strange, considering it's a Spetsnaz and second-line weapon for tank crews and truck drivers and the like and most of the soldiers should be carrying the full length rifle version.
Ohh I Loved in SoC etc fucking over the jar heads. Took some save scums but taking out the whole damn checkpoint at cordon was epic every-time. Sidrovich sweating as you sold him your 4th batch of AKs and mil spec gear. I found it near an over turn truck idk what you're thinking.
@@anomalousdugout9557 You lucky bastard. I tried many times to acquire it in the Army Warehouses but never succeeded. Did you side with a faction or were you just a mercenary?
I know the military are strong but they semmed to get destroyed or barely scaped the factions in the STALKER games, heck one of the most dangerous factions are the ones who pray to a rock.
In my opinion, the army was most screwed over by the Zone itself, not so much by the factions (at least when it comes to special forces and military stalkers). Mutants, anomalies, blowouts and psi-emissions got the better of them. If not for such phenomenons, the military would have defeated the Monolith and captured the CNPP at the end of Shadow of Chernobyl.
If the zone was a thing thing would Ukraine collaborate with Russia or the US? Maybe both? There's no way they would have enough resources to do everything they want to in the zone. The US is always eager to use its #1 military in the world for something and Russia would likely be interested too. What do you think, would the US try everything it could to get into the zone? On a side note, I hope Stalker 2 will show us how the world reacted to the zone
I do believe that Ukraine has some sort of collaboration with Russia. This would explain how they get modern russian weapons. However, I'm not sure about the US. As we saw in the last video, it is possible that the western countries are operating in the Zone through the Mercenary faction. I think this is more likely than an American/Ukrainian military collaboration, but I could be wrong.
Well, in Clear Sky UN troops are mentioned, but they are probably at outer perimeters of the zone , while in game we only see a part of the inner perimeter (Cordon). Ukraine probably gets a tons of money founds from UN, US, Nato and Russia (probably Russia also gives equipment) in universe. Also the Ukrainian goverment probably tries to keep critical infromations about the zone for themself, so letting international and foreign troops inside the zone would probably a bad idea for them.
@@anomalousdugout9557 Maybe not in the timeline of the released games, but in our own timeline, a revolution in 2014 led to the replacement of that government with a pro-NATO one. If that still ends up happening in STALKER's timeline, that might change.
I wanna see ukraine cut in half like in rl. Russian army on one side and ukrainians with american gear and advisors on the other with everyone else caught between. Unisg and army are fun in anomaly. Ukraine is gonna get smoked by russian in RL so maybe the zone keeps the russians at bay?
I remember seeing in Soc and it said get your documents out so i put my gun away and go up to them and they start shooting. Now I know why they shoot stalkers
In anomaly I used to see and hear the helicopters sometimes but I am playing Gamma now and after a lot of hours I have not seen one or heard one. Maybe they took them out in gamma or maybe I am not far enough along since I haven't went past the barrier yet
Is there any chanse i can join scientist's faction? I have seen your previous video about you talking for freedom and duty but you havent talk about scientists mercenarys and other
Sounds like assinment to the Zone is a alteritve to military Prison or a penal detachment for the grunts, they are given whatever the quartermaster find at the bottom of the store bunkers with key points given actual armemrments of weight, Supprised there not more Mosin-Nagants or SKS's about. Or those higher officers are put there to stop there incompidance from effecting other matters of state
yea i once did see a millitary guy and started yelling STALKER! and i was like yea he did see me and then another one started yelling stalker too and started shooting at the millitary guy i was just watching
Hey can you please do a video of hidden location and how to get to them. For example that bed location in radar where there a metal door that has a password and broken ladder or that use anomaly to transport you to different place
There are not much secret locations like this. Besides, I showed how to unlocked the doors in Radar in a previous video: ua-cam.com/video/aFfxTXlKzes/v-deo.html
Another indicator of the genius of the developers, the military in the game is shown to be corrupt and the army unable to carry out even the simplest tasks. Allusion and direct caricature of post-soviet, old generals who wiped their pants in offices and stole the budget instead of rearmament
The military needs to mount some kind of quick firing bolt throwing device on the front of their helicopters to safely navigate the air above the zone

Именно. У них написано на нашивках МВС. А это никак не может быть военными. «Министерство внутришних справ» что-то такое.
"They're only following orders..." I think I've heard that one before
Great video as usual! I love watching your vids man. There's something special about your voicing that gets me into listening :d
Alright thanks!
Really digging your lore videos.
Hope your channel blows up (not literally) someday.
I'm so hyped about Stalker 2, been waiting for over a decade now.
Are you going to make Stalker 2 videos once it comes out and you managed to gather lore about it?
Thanks stalker. I can't tell if I will make videos about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 just yet, we'll have to wait and see.
Another amazong video. Your breakdown of the military operations is on poimt and very detailed, there were some details I wasn't aware off. I'm hoping this channel is going to br big with all the stalker fans and the release of the sequel people are only going to be more
Interested in the secrets of Th Zone. Awesome editing and very discriptive and detailed explanations of the events to gomalong woth it. This is by far the best Stalker related channel on UA-cam.
Glad to read that, thank you stalker!
Top tier content as usual... Love ur videos
Thank you stalker.
"they are only following orders"
i said the same during the trail but they still pluged me guilty

Duty : STALKERS JOIN DOOTY PROTECT THE INNOCENTS
The military has such a depth, certainly one of the most important and interesting factions.
Btw armymen are kind of stalkers themselves, at least in SoC when killed they can give coordinates of stashes, which sometimes contain artifacts.
Hopefuly major (colonel after CoP) Degtyarev could fix some problem within the military in the zone
Very nice video once again! Keep it up bro!
Thank you stalker!
@@anomalousdugout9557 I'm working on it, I've just been wicked busy D:
@@zoneoperator Alright, take your time.
Eeee yay! My favorite faction, awesome video! ^_^
Even if they are secondary antagonists, and fail a decent bit, I like them.
Great then!
Just slapped the army base close to newbie base in SoC - am I the only one who got a shot with sawn off from like 50-60 feet, I thought I was a hacker hahaha
I just love your stuff dude! How you do that with your funny voice just Awesome!!!
glad you covered this faction my man.
I'm glad as well.
12:16 i see what you did there... There is rumor that some individual helped the Ukrainian authorities to obtain such maps... He had strange nickname like Eagle or Sapsan or something like that
I heard such rumors, and stories about antennas...
Great video as always. I play monolith and military as main, best factions
Underrated video and underrated channel.
Thanks.

Great job man. I love the military 😎👍
Alright, thanks.
What if you, wanted to cross the cordon, but the military gunner said: haha machine gun goes bbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Indeed.
The military get along with Duty but not Freedom
Do they though?
@anomalousdugout9557 yeah bra that's why even in the video they mention the dealings between Duty and military. Their philosophies are aligned in that they are both opposed to the zone
@@l9ino170 Put a soldier and a dutyer face to face and guns will talk.

How do you get the shots of the military deployed and waiting to move? All the cutscenes you do are really good! Great camera work!
The military is like the second mercenary faction, only that this time, they kill every single faction other than Duty and the Ecologists, since they want to find information in documents, conclude experiments in the zone, et cetera.
I guess that's correct.
Great content!
Thanks.
I just wanna say that I love the Beryl military armor drip
Appreciate the videos man
Great then!
3:09 "Beacuse of this poor protection..." you say it exactly when a soldier tanks almost entire mag of AK into the chest XDDD
Yes, that's the power of editing.
Ye know when you have to leave the Swamps for Cordon? Yeah, I call that "Reverse Normandy"
It's not that hard if you know the tactics. I actually made a video about that a while back.
Seems like every faction was supposed to hunt for the documents of the x labs.
Thanks for the info. Did you cover all factions?
I only did the factions that were interesting, that is Renegades, Mercenaries and Military.
@@anomalousdugout9557 thank you but I'd like to learn more about duty and freedom
@@sirfanatical8763 Play the games and you will learn pretty much everything there is to know.
Interestingly (for me, anyway), the State Security Service of Ukraine, usually referred to by the Ukrainian initialize SBU, is not quite the military. It’s more of a successor to the Soviet era KGB.
not wright!
Military realistically would steamroll everyone, ik the Ukrainian army in 2012 was substandard and kinda outdated, but they still had powerful firepower.
finally the millitary video.thx stalker
Yes it's here!
9:29 Did you get this gun as a reward from bandits or by completing side missions for stalkers in Army Warehouses?
I think side missions in the Army Warehouses.
@@anomalousdugout9557 You lucky bastard. I tried many times to acquire it in the Army Warehouses but never succeeded. Did you side with a faction or were you just a mercenary?
@@jackturner-bogdanzivojinov1385 According to my save, I was just a mercenary.
I used to think the Military were absolute clowns till I played Call of Pripyat. That game gave them a human side.
Yes, I understand.
I died many times during this part lol 00:00 - 00.11
btw nice video :)
Yeah I think we all did.
If only the military knew the secret to avoiding emissions.. stand on top of the NPP.. :(
Ahah yes!
@@Anton-xz4qg Yes, I think you are right.
The name of PKM soldier is Volodymyr Vist
Very interesting video
Thanks.
thank you this is a good faction!
I remember seeing in Soc and it said get your documents out so i put my gun away and go up to them and they start shooting. Now I know why they shoot stalkers
Mybe in Stalker 2 they will be actually strong...
So they would be an actual threat.
Or, potentially, an ally, depending on the choices you make.
Yeah, maybe.
In anomaly I used to see and hear the helicopters sometimes but I am playing Gamma now and after a lot of hours I have not seen one or heard one. Maybe they took them out in gamma or maybe I am not far enough along since I haven't went past the barrier yet
I realy like your videos
Great, thanks.
Their helicopters are probably the most powerful element they use
Yeah, they are strong machines to deal with.

Or those higher officers are put there to stop there incompidance from effecting other matters of state
Yes, that could definitely be the case.

Military has a weird relation with emissions haha
i wonder how the grunts on the ground feel about being posted to the zone they must have pissed in some1 coffy to get sent here
Yeah that must be the worst place to be.
I mean they are high-risk ammo and gear source everytime i boot my stalker games lol
