  • REPLACING the WHOLE ENGINE CRADLE in my 2020 C8 Corvette!
Ladies and gentlemen, today starts the rebuild process of my 2020 C8 Corvette. As many of you know, I hit a concrete pylon on the highway and it completely wrecked the underside of my C8. Classic Collision finally received all the parts to fix the damages, so they are starting today.

I feel so bad for you that your C8 received that much damage. I hit a rabbit an did a little damage up front and felt terrible. Good luck and you are having a great attitude in a not so great time.

Good luck with the repair. Have you seen the engine that Lingenfelter came up for the C8? Maybe someone will put that into a car and then compare it to the Z06.

maybe if the C8 had better frontward visibility like the C7 you may have been able to steer around the piece of debris you hit, one of the main reasons i bought a first gen NSX was the incredible amount of road you could see in front of you, i could avoid potholes or road objects because i could see them early and well and steer around them even at speed

Love ya and your channel but is it rude to ask someone to “ like” your video before watching it? Would you tell the chef at your restaurant that you like your meal before eating it? Just saying! In my opinion I think you should say . If you like this video then please give it a big thumbs up 👍

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  2 роки тому +2

Thanks man, but I don’t feel it is rude, and I’ll explain why. UA-cam is bias towards big channels. Us small guys have a rough time getting into their algorithms. Anyone who enjoys my channel will most likely enjoy all my videos. Hitting the thumbs up button as soon as you click on the video helps my video get pushed into the algorithm. The faster the video has lots of thumbs up, the better it will do. This is my communities way of showing me support and helping my channel to actually be successful. I’ve busted my butt on UA-cam now for almost 4 years and have learned a lot. Thumbs up and comments help videos keep growing in views. If you don’t like the video after you watch it, you could always click the thumbs down or just unlike it, but if you love my channel, I would hope that you would want to help me anyway you could, especially since it’s free. Plus, people get distracted easily and forget to hit it later on in the video, it’s just easier for them to hit it right off the bat and not have to worry about it anymore. I hope this helps you understand why ask at the beginning.

The damage would likely have been averted had you not hit that RR crossing at 138 mph. And although you did so in order to 'beat' the oncoming train, which I admit was impressive, I still felt bad due to the punishment the car had to endure. ;)

Great video on an extensive amount of work. My only complaint would be that the techs are repeatedly leaning on the cars unprotected bodywork to work in engine bay area. This is unacceptable in any shop IMO. We learned this in high school motor mech.

I think anyone who reads the Carfax and then has the opportunity to see this video will realize that the car is ok. It wasn’t struck in any of the corners, no panel damage, no bent frame, etc. The complexity of the car required that new engine cradle be installed as a whole piece - and watching the video, I would be comfortable with buying it. Just my opinion….

I wanted to see the damage on the cradle when it was out. IF that’ small part with the 4 bolts that GM said “don’t touch replace the whole cradle ” was the only damage. I as owner would have demanded that small part fixed instead of tearing everything apart like that. GM says Don’t touch those bolts, lol! No self interest there ( new part 7,500 plus labour) vs what 75? Everyone’s Vet insurance just went up.

I was watching your video and it really hit home! I recently had my oil change back in Oct and the DTC filer was back ordered. I took it back to the dealer for the DCT filter in December. I had some damage done but I did not have any proof of where and when. I ordered the rear deflector under the C8 and replaced it myself. It was cracked in the center with a round mashed in area. I installed the deflector the day before I took it in for the DCT filter service. Had it serviced, took the C8 home and parked on my lift. I noticed once up in the air the same deflector piece was damaged again, same place. I removed the deflector and the center of the engine cradle was smashed in again too. Your center piece has a small damage dent compared to my smashed in piece. I was going to have the Chevy dealer replace the center frame piece until I watched your video. Now they want to see my C8 to inspect the damage after Christmas and it looks like I can bring it in perhaps this coming Wednesday or Thursday due to our Ohio weather. I will fill in the Corvette family once the dealer inspects my car next week. I have mentioned your video as a reference to my damage. Do you have contact information of Classic Collision Center? Might need the guy's name and contact number who was in your video showing you the engine cradle.
Thank you, Bill in Brook Park, OH

No they didnt keep the same design as a C7. In fact, the tunnel is there for a major reason of rigidity and future use of electricity. The C8 is not a C7 retrofitted for a mid engine design. That notion is beyond silly.

Good to see you're going to be back on the road again and they do look very professional. One thing I noticed was the guy working on the driver side at the end there didn't have any kind of pad over the rear quarter while the guy on the other side had what appeared to be a very thick covering. The empty void running down the center of the car is where they're going to put the battery for the E-ray.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS! ☃️

unfortunately the car will always have a declaration for damage that exceeded $5k that would need to be disclosed to future owners. it sucks to cross the line that insurance companies make you declare high dollar damage but it protects future owners from buying a car that may have excessive damage. even if a Ferrari had slight damage it could easily exceed 5k and would need to be declared to future owners. it's a black eye for the car but not always a major factor in determining resale value.

All the plumbing underneath the C8 reminds me of the DeTomaso and how that was setup. I hope they give you the Frunk's storage bin. Hi Mike. So sorry to hear you had to deal with covid. Man that’s nothing to mess with. Hope your well on the road to recovery with no long term symptoms. Holy smokes they did a ton of work to your car. Nice you have a dealership that’s familiar with the c8. Bothered me that they didn’t put a fender cover on till quite late. Hopefully there were no belt buckles. 12k seems like a deal for what they did, or is that just parts. Looking good my man. Be safe.

The Lingenfelter engine I was talking about puts out 1000+ HP. It is designed to fit in the C8.

haha put that in the car and see what happens... GM is having issues with the aluminum frame twisting on the future e-versions of the car and breaking windows and such, the frame may have a hp/torque limit without substantial reinforcing of sections of the car. keep your eye on what GM is doing with those versions because they are doing it for a reason they don't want future high hp corvettes to turn out like the C7 Z06 which was a nightmare for them (and the owners)

@@puny-tinsucks5102 Actually I know 2 people that are currently doing it. They are doing it on their new C8's. Also, GM trusts Lingenfelter; GM continues to honor their warranties even after Lingenfelter mods the cars. What does that tell you?

That's great. Your car will be back soon. Thank you for another time lapse video. Once they got the parts, it was quick. Good job to them and great update on the repair.
