- Today's thing is .... The Sonos PlayBase!!! moderndad.com/p...
It's easy to look at the Sonos PlayBase and try to squeeze more out of it than is needed. In fact, you can sum it up thusly: It's a Sonos speaker that fits underneath (and connects to) your TV. It's REALLY good. ... And pretty darn expensive.

Whoa I haven't been on Android Central in forever. So surprised I'm seeing you here. You look way healthy! Congrats! Anyways great review Phil. I'll be watching more often.
Thanks! Be sure to sub and tell your friends!
I just saw one of these on a local Marketplace for 250 this thing is really old at this point but would it be worth it in 2023? I don't see too many people making this form factor for speakers
Your channel was recommended by Michael Fisher of MrMobile, I've been considering the Sonos system for quite a while. You're right. It is expensive. Your opinion will help me narrow my choices.
Dude son, have you considered how good a sonos connect amp would sound with non-sonos speakers?
I was looking through wireless sound for my apartment and I'm nowhere near an audiophile to justify spending money on Sonos speakers. I ended up with the Visio Smartcast bar and an interesting device called the Castdock X2. For what it is, they work flawlessly and I'd definitely recommend them to people married to the Google Cast system.
Hunh ... That's a cute little trick. ... Don't tell anyone, but I actually have a Chromecast Audio plugged into my Sonos 5 in the living room. Best of both worlds. =D
I have a playbase but am considering 2 ones or a sub. Can’t do both. Which would you prioritise. I like my base but the playbase isn’t lacking it. It might benefit by more from a sub but I think the surround is probably the better move. What do you think?
I never sprung for the sub but am continuously impressed by the Sonos One.
@@Moderndad Thanks - I went for two one's but I will change that to a one and a one SL, seems pointless having two ones as surrounds. I'm happy. I feel like the sub would be a benefit, but I'm unsure on the value for money.
On a side note, one's a fantastic as stand alone, I don't know why you would buy 3's or 5', unless you had this in a bar, games room or commercial environment
There are 2 kinds of people out there: Sonos and soundbar
Your mention on what type of TV you own should decide which to get either the playbar or playbase is misleading. Both are different products and as such sound different. The playbase has a sub built in, the playbar doesn't. Given the recent release of the playbase, I am assuming Sonos used updated materials probably not found in the playbar. Thanks for the review though.
You're right: The hardware isn't 1:1 (Both sound GREAT though.) ... But the point really was about the pedestal.
Great review! Coming from a person who never makes it through a whole UA-cam video.
Thanks so much!
Hi, do you have to turn down the tv volume when using the Playbase? Or are both volumes operating at same time?
Not sure what you mean by both volumes ...
The tv volume and the playbase volume, are they on simultaneously or do these units work with volume only coming from the playbase. i hope this makes sense
Ah ... You set the TV to output audio via an external source, so the internal speakers shut off.
I understand that this fits a different use and/or demographic of users...but for $700, go buy a nice receiver ($400) and a good surround system ($300) for a similar experience.
That's what I'm sayin! You lose the excellent wireless experience though.
ModernDad True, though most mid-range receivers have BT capability these days.
Or you just plug in a Chromecast Audio, and hey presto!
to bad the tv solutions are so bulky. I would like to use play1 left and right to support my TV, wireless :D
SONOS AMP and two speakers of your choosing... I can recommend the Zensor 1s by DALI, or sone QAcoustices.
He’s like the guy from modern family
2:04-2:11 anyone knows what plays on the TV?
13 reaons why on netflix
Gabriel Fung Thank you!
Truplay tuning works on Android
It does? When did they add that?
You know what you are right. lol I had a iphone when I initially set up my sonos. So truplay is in fact missing in the Android version of the app. I forgot I tried a iphone SE for a couple months.
I'd rather spend my money on proper surround sound instead.
If room dimensions are a consideration, this is worth considering
For those who want the best they are willing to pay for it. This has always been true of AV tech.
And, ya know, all products in general. :)

Seriously? 13 reasons why? WHY?
Heh ... Haven't actually watched it. ... Don't intend on it either.
Is Sonos as artificial sounding as Bose?
