Soundbases are an interesting concept. But it's hard to think of any scenario where a dual speaker setup wouldn't be a better solution, unless you really like the soundbase....
I have a Playbar, Sub and 2 x Play 5 Gen 2 in my lounge room and a Play 3 in my kitchen, also a Play 5 Gen 1 in my bedroom. I started purchasing my system almost 4 years ago and have added to it since. I just love, love, love it. Thanks for the explanation of what a Playbase actually does. I was wondering about that, but no more.
I love Sonos products currently have the bar sub and 2 play 1's the sound and range these speakers can produce is just incredible, they aren't overly bass heavy like Bose and have a great range of audio without distortion unlike lg's music flow offering. The app is simple quick and easy to use by far the best app out of any of the wireless speaker systems as well. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone it's easy to use with an incredible sound and a great price point for what you get :)
Andru Edwards absolutely cranked up to the max it delivers such an incredible tone it's just ridiculous, I can't wait to see what happens when they refresh the play 1 and 3 with the new design and hopefully some new more powerful speakers!
I purchased the Playbase without even hearing it, based off of all the amazing reviews. My wife likes the minimalistic look. IMO I believe that it's PERFECT for watching television shows but for music and movies, I wish that there was just a little bit more bottom end. I do agree with others that have said that the room can affect the sound. For instance, my living room has high vaulted ceilings and tile throughout, so it may not sound as warm as it might in a smaller room with more sound deadening. I have grown to love the flexibility of this speaker. I can be watching a show, then switch to music and back to the television programs audio. I love how I can use Alexa commands to play music, and turn the music up/down hands free. I've considered swapping it out for another soundbar system but there are very very few that have wi-fi that are Alexa compatible and from what I understand, music sounds better via wi-fi vs Bluetooth.
You can control the level through the EQ in the settings. I honestly haven't found it to be intrusive when listening to TV. I set it for music and have been loving it while watching tv as well. You can also use night mode that helps mitigate some of the deep base and loud sounds in the event someone is sleeping in the house. So quick answer, with some looking around in the app you can find ways to adjust to your liking.
I have a paybar set (with sub and play 1 x 2) and I love it. I agree that there's a bit of "sonos magic" to the device that makes watching tv or streaming audio a more pleasurable experience. That being said, I really enjoy listening to music over my playbar surround set. I wonder how the playbase differs (if at all) for streaming music?
Looks awesome and it's actually a great idea making it a base, I think they are right. most people don't have the TV mounted in a wall. This one isn't for me, too pricey for this mortal :P
Hi I'm a BIG fan of sonos I've had it since launch when it started with play 5 and play 3 . I have 1 play 5 2 play 3 , 2 play1 and play bar and the sub
just bought one and it's awesome. owned a bose sound bar 300 and it was awful by comparison. the playbase is in my view the best sounding bar/stage out there. just get your electronics store to put the two next to each other and you'll see what I mean. the sound image is wide and if set up correctly you can hear the virtual rears in the room and with pin sharp accuracy. if you own the bose you have been short changed on sound. Please listen to one before you criticise my views.
I don't care about voice control, but no ARC, and especially no DTS, is a huge dealbreaker for me. Buit then again, let's be fair, it's a soundbase. You can't have real surround sound from a product like this (unless you'd use it as a center speaker, but that's not what it's configged for). Even for serious music this device is not suitable. It's just a solution to have better output from your TV than the internal speakers. Also, Sonos is mostly closed off, so no support for protocols like DLNA and Chromecast audio. I know this is better with Sony's SRS-ZR-solutions. That doesn't use a soundbase though. Another limitation that basically all soundbases have is that you can't put it on a shelve in a tv cabinet. It has to sit on top, because the audio has to be able to spread around the room and the signature is adjusted for that scenario. And most people don't hang their TV on the wall, so the TV has to stand on top of the playbase which looks ugly. So it really depends on the room if a playbase looks good.
Do you use it mostly for TV audio or do you play music through it too? Would you say it can replace music speakers in the room? Sorry for sounding snide.

A totally different product. Really depends on what you are using it for. If you want surround, go for the Yamaha, if you don't care about that, then the Sonos. But also consider two standers combined with a decent receiver.
I just purchased a Playbase with 2 play 1s and a sub running on my LG Oled 65" The system packs a great punch, The downfall the only option is Optical, if i purchase a Optical coverter to HDMi and converted Optical to HDMi threw my ARC will that enhance the sound quality?
*Hey **#TechSquad**! What do you think of the new **#Sonos** **#Playbase**? Would you pick up something like this?*

Just got it yesterday and it sounds great now I ordered sub and thinking about play ones. Nice review.

+micgamer16 that Sonos Sub is legit!

sonos sound bar
Need to edit the title, remove the comparison. "Playbase vs Playbar"

I just got one on last Friday with the sub and 2 play 1's for surround. Get the sub!!! It is an awesome combination!!!
Jason Croghan Thanks for the recommendation. I plan on it. Can you turn it off when watching TV?

by the way, I don't have vaulted ceilings. Mine are 12' with wood floor but it is a very big open space with kitchen and so on.
I own sonos... but I think they should consider other televisions that may not have the optical out with that being said I do love my Sonos

Thanks for the vid. Can I stream via AirPlay 2 to the PlayBase and how would that differ from Optical in your opinion?
great review..I didn't know those things exsisted for your TV. I got a 42in LG but prefer to use outside speakers
This guy is like a less aggressive version of Dwayne Johnson

Sonos sound good, but lacks a lot of basic features that many other less expensive sound bars or speaker systems have.
The question not answered here is...Does the Playbase decode DTS & Dolby as the playbar does..or is it simply a 2.1 speaker?
It does decode it, similar to Playbar!

Review usually means you got one and tried it. This is not a review.
+arainla I got one weeks before release, used it, and own it. Thanks for chiming in with your definition though! 👍🏽

Agreed! This was a total clickbait tittle. Sad to see a cat with over 100k subs doing this nonsense, but you can't hate on the hustle ;)
So what exactly are the differences between the playable n playbar
So for the playbar to work you need a tv? Can you stream off of your phone to hear music or watch videos?
Listen to Music yes
Watching video no
should i buy Yamaha Yht-2910 5.1 system or this?

What’s the big deal of having DTS
Where is the VS playbar content?
I took the blue pill
what is DTS?
It's an audio codec much like Dolby Digital
thanks for the info.
+BB EVERY it's an alternate sound technology that competes with Dolby Digital and which many think sounds superior.
thanks. :-)
Still no HDMI?!? Come on Sonos
+Funny Guy right! 😡
It's cool but... I'm poor :(
Agree with sonos, don't care about dts!
