I don't think he did the dish right . . . he still has his clothes on.
Sai exactly lmaoooooooo
Omg I forgot about that part lol. This comment made me die
Food Wars has made me neurotic about my cooking. Every time my girlfriend takes a bite, no amount of her telling me it's good will shake that feeling that it wasn't enough to make her boobs jiggle uncontrollably.
lmfao
Cannonfodder0617 lmafo btw I hate that dish can’t you mane one of the good one like idk the first fing episode
Please, please, PLEASE do more of the dishes from Food Wars!! They have so many things to try!
Don't worry, I got this.
This needs more upvotes!

Not bad, but can you cook 200 omelettes in under an hour?
I just whatch that episode
Half hour. Literally 30 minutes from start to plate no pre prep. Fucking madlad
Jon Doe he’s on steroids 😂
30 mins bro
YESSSS
Instructions unclear, clothes all came off while eating.
i was not aware i was in the presence of a nakiri
Nah, you did it just right if that happens
*Instructions clear
You did it perfectly then 👍
His clothes didn't explode when he ate the rice though...
true its not good enough
Also the lack of boobs is disturbing
Didn’t make it right I guess

i was hoping for a non weeb comment. Ty sir.
can you stop appearing wherever I look, I just want to enjoy cooking without thinking of yu gi oh
There's always that one serious tone guy with a super deep voice in anime, even in a cooking one 😭😭
Pdrew that would be Dios voice actor
Just so everyone knows, most of the recipes shown in the manga have their recipes on the back.
Cowboy Bebop. Space bounty hunting with a neo-noir tone. Featuring incredibly driving characters and some curious cooking at times (food is sometimes scarce in space). Hands down probably one of the greatest shows (not just animes) ever made.
Haha, maybe he could make the bell pepper and beef stir fry (sans beef).
YES!
Can I suggest Outlaw Star before he gets to Cowboy Bebop? It's made by the same studio, is only 26 episodes long, and was made before Bebop.
Scrolled down to say this
Geoff Barker and the soundtrack. Amirite?
Cowboy Bebop is a solid way for a dude like Babish to get into anime. It's one of those shows that every film buff will appreciate.
mugensamurai love cowbloop bee boy so much
Yes, Cowboy Bebop is a masterpiece!
Yep, then you can do a shiitake episode a la mushroom hunting 🍄🍄🍄
^^^^^
Was gonna suggest Cowboy Bebop as well.
To be quite honest just watch everything related to Studio Ghibli. Spirited Away and the moving castle were my favorite childhood movies
Eda Kivanc yussss my faves!! Ghibli is magical
Eda Kivanc minus the amazon original series, it might have the stamp of that studio but it lacks the soul that would make it accessible to all ages.
And he can recreate the food from Spirited Away.
metdrummer18 yes!! the food always made me hungry it's animated soooo deliciously tbh
Honestly with nothing else to go on with his tastes this is his best bet for enjoying anime before finding horror, adventure, fantasy shows or whatever he likes.
You must continue foodwars. It will give you tons of recipes to be recreated
Cowboy Bebop is an execellent place to start and a personal fav
If you want a sillier version that I believe is made by the same guys, go for Space Dandy
Oh my god. Please, do more recipes from Shokugeki no Soma. As whacky and... Oddly sexual as the show is, the food they make in it looks fucking tasty.
Asking the internet what our favorite anime is.... I hope you know what you got yourself into there.

Cowboy Bebop, 100%. Perfect entry to the genre.

Yes! Also I would like to see Binging with Babish: Bellpeppers and Beef
Yes! Best and only anime I've ever seen
not on cruncyroll thougt...
"Uh, Jet. You said bell peppers and beef. There's no beef in here. So you wouldn't really call it bell peppers and beef, now would you?"
YESSS I've been waiting for a food wars episode forever
Tam B same
been requesting this forever
Legitimately the worst anime I’ve ever watched.
There’s so many better food anime.
Ditto!! I even sent him a Patreon message, hahahaha
while not a tv show, Studio Ghibli has some very very famous movies that always have gorgeous food shots. The food offered in the food stalls in Spirited Away that turn Chihiro's parents into pigs would be a great thing to recreate
Imagine making this in a dorm or something and your roommates come home and ask why the heck you have a pineapple in the oven.
Can't go wrong with what others have said so far:
Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, My Hero Academia, One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100, Attack on Titan...
But it's probably easier to get into anime by watching Studio Ghibli movies:
Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro...
Nailed it, my friend!
Another great anime for food sources is Sweetness and Lightning! It's a food anime that warms the heart. And Restaurant to Another World is a very modern one that contains dishes from across the world
Don’t forget ‘Grave of the Fireflies’ by Studio Ghibli, which helps when getting into really emotional animes.
Grave of the Fireflies is the kind of movie that you watch once and never watch again. So depressing.
Future episodes of Studio Ghibli food... *confirmed*
caffeineadvocate fish pot pie from kiwis delivery service please :3
Dude the buffet foods from Spirited Away
I certainly hope so. The food always looks so good and I wish I knew how to cook it.
shelby ladra can't forget that bomb hot chocolate either!
I second the motion for the foods from spirited away. ANY show or movie by studio ghibli is amazing
"what are your suggestions?"

NO! NONONO! PLEASE! PLEASE NO GOD NONONONONO!
No, jojo is simply not for newcomers. You need to prepare yourself with the weirdness of normal anime before you can even think of jojo.
You don’t want them to turn down the show on the first episode do you?
I have been trying to get my wife to watch JOJO with me for 3 years and she can't get pass the tongue cherry scene
@@murstyle I can change her mind.
That feeling when he finally does Food Wars.
And you're severely allergic to the main ingredient.
Your Allergic to pineapple ?! thats very rare never heard that
Pfft.
I feel bad for laughing HAHA

Ahsan Siddiqui
My aunt is allergic to it as well
Wait the pineapple or the rice?
If you're into sci-fi, you can't go wrong with Cowboy Bebop. I feel like it's a pretty good, not too wacky series for someone who's just getting into anime.
this... YOU HAVE TO Watch this anime first.
Bebop's 20 years old this year and it's still probably the first one I'd recommend.
Hi Andrew, first time commenting to say cowboy bebop is definitely a great place to start. It is one of the rare times when the English dub is as great as the original voice acting so you don't need to worry about subtitles. The characters, the story, and the music are superlative. After bebop, you can't go wrong with Miyazaki movies.
shut the fuck up
Babish watch Cowboy Bebop. You may have heard of it, you may not have. It is a 26 episode and movie masterpiece that will leave you feeling like the show is a part of you.
It is indeed amazing!
WildWildWeston dub or sub?
Sub always, man!
No. Cowboy Bebop dub is fucking legendary. Sub only watchers are missing out on some truly unique performances.
I always prefer subs over dub man. Although Cowboy possibly has the/one of the best dubs out there.

I love seeing the little bowls of liquid slowly approach the edge of the cutting board.
"Yakitate!! Japan" Is a very long running (almost 70 episodes) cooking anime all about bread with increasingly absurd yet still somehow plausible baking techniques being used with increasingly over the top reactions tot he final dish (A classic trope of food anime). Also nigh-untranslatable bread puns. Highly episodic though, you can jump around without missing much.
"Sweetness and Lightning" is another cookign anime about a single father learning to cook for his daughter afte the death of his wife. The recipes are simple and varied between western and more traditional Japanese. A very laid back, heartwarming series. Like milk chocolate, just a hint of bitter brings out the sweetness in it all
Steve Bucsh
I stand behind these recommendations. Yakitake Japan has the added bonus of being hilarious. On the realm of anime comedy it's VERY out there so prepare for ridiculousness.
Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Made in Abyss
Hunter x Hunter
One Punch Man
Mob Psycho 100
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Tim Pryde All I habe to say about Made in Abyss: Mitty!!! 😭

Cowboy Bebop is a solid staple of anime.
In general, I am not an anime fan, but damn if Cowboy Beebop isn't great. Perfect place to start for the novice.
A perfect gateway anime

@@jc_8119 SWUIDS HAVE LEGS!?
yes
@@jolenemathews Kinda.
You should use old cooked rice that has been in the fridge on a sheet pan. The dryness gives you a lot more leeway to add tasty liquids. Also, the reason it's called "fried rice" is that in the cooking process, the rice crackles like it's being fried, and the grains should be lightly coated with a smoky caramelized sauce.
You are absolutely right
He also added the eggs too early and the rice too late. And aromatics go in first, in quick succession, followed by hard veg, then that gets pushed aside for the egg which should be quickly topped with rice. after a couple of tosses, add in softer veg and spices, soy sauce and other liquids, then finally any pre-cooked meats.
@Modern day PC you don't know that.
who tf cares, it still tastes good, let him make it how he wants

watch out for the edgy boys that will call 2003 better because of dark TONE
Saxon Anglo
Fma brotherhood is gem in my opinion one of the best shows I've ever watched few concluded with more gusto then came in only thing that comes as close to a satisfying ending is either the office or hunter x hunter but both those shows are longer neither have the momentum and character development fma has by which I mean brotherhood stick with it tho slow at points it never lacks charm
+Saxon Anglo , that is blasphemy.
Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and One Punch Man. All are short, great for beginners, and must watch
There are a sprinkling of good food scenes in Champloo as well, from what I remember at least.
THIS
I don't watch anime but samuari champloo was great
Champloo was my first exposure. Totally a great place for a newbie to start!
+1 Champloo
Can’t be that great he didn’t even bear his chest...

---COWBOW BEBOP--- bell peppers and beef.
Im telling you this is what we want!
YES!! Plus cowboy bebop is just a great starting point
But there's hardly any beef.
he also needs to drink a prairie oyster
John Carr McIlnay He said "what's ur favorite thing to show new comers to the genre." Cowboy bebop said "The work which becomes a new genre itself will be called cowboy bebop." THAT'S IT!!! BABISH HAS TO WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!
Dutch Wartooth yeah but knowing jet it was probably seasoned wonderfully! It would be super entertaining to see him get creative with to try and basically get beef flavor into a beef dominate food...without using beef
You have huge amount of material if you are brave enough to delve into the realm of anime food. Studio Ghibli movies always have amazing food in them, the spirited away feast is AMAZING !

The films Akira, Spirited Away and Paprika are the gateway anime I recommend Then its Cowboy Bebop and Code Geass for shows.
if he could re-create the spirited away banquet at the beginning that would be insane!
Nik B. Get a bit underground and watch Evangelion, get weird vibes with Serial Experimental and a spice of romance with Monogatari.
If you're talking anime movies, you *cannot* leave out Your Name. That shit is fire.
I agree with Cowboy Bebop, but Code Geass is not the best idea for a gateway anime series.
Poly Gyro Nah, nope sorry. Your Name is by far the weakest movie Shinkai has put out. Bland, cheesy and makes literally no sense plot wise. Go with 5 centimeters per second or Garden of Words for a better experience of Shinkai's work.

i always recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood its super good and easy to get into!great characters, cool story, and super funny while the action sequences are Awesome (also Spirited Away is definitely in my top 5 movies of all time so id definitely give it a go)

seconded, came down here to comment nearly exactly that 👍
Babish, I suggest Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, My Hero Academia, any Studio Ghibli movie, and One Punch Man.
literally commented Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood lol
I'd recommend all Ghibli movies for a good starting point when it comes to watching anime, I think the food in some of them is drawn looking really tasty.
Heart There's really a difference with watching a Ghibli movie and watching an anime tv show.
Yeah, anime movies are definitely a good starting point. Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Hosoda, Satoshi Kon, Makoto Shinkai, etc. I kind of see them as the gateway to anime if you don't know someone's preferences (not everyone going to like the mainstream shows like Naruto or Black Butler, for example)
The food from Spirited Away😍😍😍😍

Literally any food from any Studio Ghibli movie would be rad. Ramen in Ponyo. That Fish pie thing that looks SO GOOD from Kikis Delivery Service. Theres this stew/porridge stuff in Princess Mononoke. Theres a BUNCH of different foods in Spirited Away that all looks INCREDIBLE including what I THINK are soup dumplings.
yup can't go wrong with studio ghibli
Totally agree! I would love it if he did the whole spread of parents-to-pigs from Spirited Away, but Ramen with ham from Ponyo would be a little more reasonable :)
Liz Lorenzsonn I think he could do the pork. But then again, Miyazaki himself makes ramen.. but as a fan of food wars.. this was a weird start for Andrew.
Omg please do Studio Ghibli food!
Aran Reddington Naruto is my favorite studio Ghibli film. Completely underrated.
you should just make all the food from food wars. it will keep you going for 15 years

I knew crunchy roll would get to you. _I just didn’t think it would be so soon._

Cowboy Bebop is also one that will be suggested a lot for three reasons: 1. It's really popular with western audiences 2. It's a blend of japanese and western conventions and 3. It's fucking amazing.
Steven Broka no one cares weeb
Anything from studio Ghibli!
not a bad choice, those films are serious eye candy and they're well directed (:
He’s said before it’s very difficult to do because they are notorious copyright strikers and will likely take the video down

Cowboy Bebop is my favorite and a great one for newcomers. I find that it's very accessible because of its atmosphere that feels like a blend of American noir/French new wave/John Woo action/Scifi. Its soundtrack is also a lot of jazz and blues. Highly recommend it!
Cowboy Bebop has an episode where they only have Shitake Mushrooms and they make like 5 different dishes with it. You should watch/do that one!
The episode is called, "Mushroom Samba"
Also the beef and bell pepper stir fry without the beef. lol

This is the correct answer right here, Miyazaki's movies have DELICIOUS looking food.
the breakfast in howls moving castle always makes me hungry :)
Absolutely, I crave dumplings every time I watch Spirited Away :)
You have to do "Gotcha Pork" from Shokugeki No Souma. "Meat Juices!"
Start with Cowboy Bebop. A lot of anime has weird Japanese tropes in them but Cowboy Bebop had none of them. It's a space western about bounty hunters so it doesn't get any cooler than that.
James Pauliny I agree. He could make the parasite flubber thing.
Yea Cowboy Bebop is one of the less "animeish" anime there is, great for someone new to the medium. Plus, the recipe for bell peppers and beef is top tier.
lol there nothing wrong with the tropes unless your some conservative Christian. He can start anywhere I love cowboy bebop it’s actually the first anime I ever watched still I think it’s a bit overrated.
I agree, also death note. The overly gimmicky characters from any usual anime don't bother fans but they could deter newcomers.
Hard bolied eggs!
You gotta make one of the infamous JoJo Spaghetti, either the Black Squid ink from part 2 or the Alla Puttanesca from part 4.

Your a bebop man for sure. The jazz is just mental. I suggest the soundtrack after you watch it. I would also suggest samurai champloo. Also tons of recipes in it. grilled eel. Oh this and that. Also GREAT music. See the theme forming here. Also, NEVER miss Afro Samurai by Rza. Also, music. And to really get back to the classics, ninja scroll. Oldie but goodie!!! Really all those would be right up your alley. ENJOY!!! also, thanks!! Dope ass show you have here!!

Gotta be “Cowboy Bebop.” It’s the perfect anime for all newcomers. The dub is the superior version so you don’t have to overwhelm yourself with subtitles, it’s a short watch, and they do some cooking.
mtburr1089 hahahaha yes babish should absolutely make "bell peppers and beef" and anything from Mushroom Hunting
I love the episode where they have all the mushrooms "and SHITake on ice"
Oh my god so much this. Cowboy Bebop is sch a wonderful gateway anime and the music is spectacular. The whole thing feels like an American western in space set to Jazz.
From the Cowboy Bebpop wiki, (so take authenticity with a grain of salt.)
Bell peppers and beef is a staple meal across the Sol System and popular among the crew of the Bebop. The meal may be prepared with or without beef and is still known as Bell Peppers and Beef.
Recipe:
4 Bell peppers, 2 tbsp Olive oil, 1 lb Lean ground beef or whole beef cut into strips (optional), 1 tsp Butter, 1 Onion, 2 Cloves garlic (minced), 1 beef bouillon cube, Soy and Teriyaki Sauce, 1 cup Cooked white rice (optional), 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, Seasoning: Salt, pepper and paprika, Boiling water
Prep Time : 5 Min
Cook Time : 5 Min
Cowboy Bebop is classic
Shadowfractureflame i just re-watched the series this past week and was hankering for some Bell Peppas and Beef. Please do this, Babish! And/or the mushroom feast :o
Yakitate Japan is an anime all about competitive baking. It goes into the science of baking and you can tell it directly influence the creator of Food Wars. There are so many different breads and pastries featured in it that you could make, but among my favorites are the green turtle bread, japan # 44 made using a petalite stone in the oven, and the castella. Hope you decide to check it out and one of the breads interests you!
Doubt you'll read this, but figured I'd throw my thoughts into the ring on what anime you should watch. These are very good suggestions for newer watchers as they don't go into some really weird anime tropes / Japanese culture that might not be understandable to someone who doesn't follow the stuff heavily.
- Cowboy Bebop - Classic "Western in Space" that is great for newcomers as it doesn't go way overboard in Japanese weirdness.
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Very complex and interesting anime that delves into an interesting future. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Alter Carbon on Netflix.
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Great story with lots of ups and downs and interesting things going on.
- Death Note - Like a giant game of cat-and-mouse between two brilliant masterminds trying to figure out how to defeat the other in a battle of wits.
- Code Geass (either version) - Interesting story with some very fun characters.
- One Punch Man - Hilariously weird, awesome, and over the top at the same time.
- Parasyte - Tons of character development and some great fight scenes.
- Samurai Champloo - Rivalry between two completely different samurai who must work together to survive.
- Trigun - Western set in the future on a remote desert planet, it can get a little weird at times, but has very enjoyable characters.
- Psycho-Pass - Weird cyberpunk story with a few interesting twists.
There are quite a lot of great ones out there, but this is a good list to get you started. Not sure how much food is included in them though... but I'm sure you could find some stuff to make it work.
Stefan Lopuszanski -takes notes-
Stefan Lopuszanski you forgot Bleach. the best anime.
Sisonpyh M Convoluted story but nostalgic if you grew up on it. Wouldn't say it's even in the top 10 but the fight scenes and art are great.
Great list, have a like.
Stefan Lopuszanski and evangelion, classic mindfuck with giant, fighting robots and angst
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. Either the granny's stew or the hues family's apple pie from the show.
joshua ash He’s made apple pie a couple times before, so I doubt he’ll make another one. But the stew is a good way to go! I don’t think he’s ever made a stew before, and it’s a nice staple dish, so maybe we can persuade him!
Now that you dipped your toe into the anime pool, I suggest anything by Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli. Lots of food opportunities to give you inspiration.

The "Gotcha Pork Roast" from Food Wars needs to be done!

Cowboy Bebop is widely considered one of the finest of all time. It's a great starting point for short series.
FMA Brotherhood is a great starting point if you want to experience an amazing long-haul. It's incredibly popular and is considered to be one of the very few actually /very popular/ anime that has come out in recent years that is actually good.
Idk if it's the "finest" lol, it's certainly entertaining though.

I’m not a huge anime fan, but I think Cowboy Bebop is a must watch. Not just a great anime but and amazing show in general.
More of Food Wars please. PLEASE!!!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE DAY YOU WOULD DO A FOOD WARS RECIPE
@janna me too, he did a basic dish tho. i expected a way difficult one
ME TOO HE NEEDS TO DO MORE!!!
This video is four years old and I’m about to have to drop a comment because I am not seeing enough One Piece recommendations, greatest story ever told
Weebing With Babish
Every day we stray further from God's light
This is funny but I'm a weeb so I don't want to discourage him. To like or to dislike that is the question
why do I get the feeling if i check this comment tomorrow its going to have a long list of people yelling at each other.
Anime is trash and so am I
I was dying of cringe there.
I NEED MORE FROM "FOOD WARS" AKA SHOKUGEKI NO SOMA
You'll get a lot of anime classics thrown at you here (I've seen Cowboy Bebop come up a few times already and that's a great suggestion for an intro), but the thing to remember with anime is that it has an *incredibly* wide range of shows within it, far more than you'll find in american animation. There are shows to match pretty much every taste from cloyingly sweet & cute, to serious adult dramas, to giant robots & magic duking it out in bloody wars.
Don't make the mistake of assuming that all anime is alike or in some way created equal, much as you would any other show, your own tastes matter and pairing your anime choices with the genres & tropes that you tend to enjoy will greatly enhance your viewing experience. I hope you enjoy your foray into the style and if you'd like some more in-depth recommendations, feel free to leave a comment with some genres that you tend to enjoy and I will gladly do what I can to give you some shows to check out that will suit your tastes.
MoadDib Well said. The point you make about range of genre is one that's very important for people who are unfamiliar with anime to understand if they're looking to get into it.
MoadDib I agree with this comment. When I hear people say they don't like anime it's like hearing someone say they don't like movies.
Please do more food wars I’d love to see how that stuff would look and taste
Hayao Miyazaki has some of the best looking foods in any of his films. He also makes films that I would definitely suggest for non-anime lovers and anime lovers alike.
Silver Spoon! It's about a guy who goes to a farming school and it's awesome!
They do a take on Pizza that's interesting. Using Gouda cheese instead of Mozzarella
Watching with Weebish
UnPhayzable that would be funny
I think we have our winner.
Why do I see you everywhere
We need more food wars dishes. That show is a culinary goldmine. Make peanut butter dipped octopus tentacles!
Samurai Champloo.
Ugunti Itnugu he can literally make Seafood Champuroo as or just the Udon from the eating contest episode
By far one of the best soundtracks of any anime.
Since they are wanderers, they do talk a lot about food in the show lol
