This episode is so heartbreaking for me, I cried a lot when gambit died and rogue dialogue in the end is so good that makes me cry even harder and I do really feel the emotion but I know in the comics there is a part when he comeback as one of the apocalypses 4 horseman. I noticed the reference with Cyclops, Madelyn Pryor's psychic entanglement with Jean grey finding out, kinda like that whole drama with Cyclops, Jean, and Emma Frost from the comics. But this time, they switched it up with Madelyn instead of Emma. And Emma's knowing smirk? Total psychic power move, like she's got the inside scoop on everything
Hopefully not spoiling much, but Emma joins the X-Men like right after the genosha genocide in the comics. She survives because she develops a secondary mutation right at that moment.

This is such a tonal shift from last episode, but absolutely impactful stuff. I thought it was a good choice to have Scott lose control during the interview as it sets up the later events of the decimation of Genosha. Mutants have to try and appease humans time and time again, yet they are never truly accepted as an equal sapient being. It was honestly quite hard to watch the attack on Genosha as it felt like a real terrorist attack. So many feels and emotions. And I also loved the Scott/Madelyne storyline as they deal with the loss of Nathan. I completely understood the “mind cheating.” They both lost a son and Scott knows for sure that Madelyne was the one who carried Nathan in her womb for nine months. He has a lot of pain from when his father abandoned him, and being forced to do that with his own son was very traumatic for him. I think that psychic cheating with Madelyne made so much sense and is an example of a deviation from the source material that actually feels earned and opens up interesting possibilities. It feels so at home given this story. On another note, Wolverine showed a lot of maturity by telling Jean that she “just forgot the rules for a sec.” He didn’t take advantage of her at all. Good stuff. I’m not big on a lot of romance drama because it usually seems cheap, but I actually thought it was handled well here. Everyone made sense as to why they had such turbulent romantic feelings to the point where it felt earned. The X-Men is very soap operatic, so I get that it needs to be done. I thought they handled it well enough to not be annoying. Watching Rogue’s journey from lamenting not being able to touch Gambit to kissing Magneto and realizing that “some things are deeper than skin” to holding Gambit’s lifeless body in her arms was soul crushing 😭. She ended up losing both of her paramours. And Magneto speaking german to Leech as they were about to die 😭😭😭 This is some of the best work that Marvel has put out and hopefully the MCU can handle the X-Men like this. Can’t wait for the next episode.

@@Brook11223 yes that’s mystique, in the og show she never revealed her true form to rogue. Rogue only finds out in the end of S1 that mystique was actually her mother the whole
Not really a spoiler because it's very different at rhis point to the comics counterpart, but in the comics the destruction of Genosha (that killed 16 millions mutants) was not undone by time travel shenanigans.
What's more, "hab keine angst" were likely Erik's parents' last words. He said it just like them - knowing full well what would happen to him and very probably Leech. All the strife and work and he's brought to grief by genocidal monsters all over again. Damn. Just damn.
I remember when Dustin mentioned how Master Mold in episode 1 was so easy to defeat lmaooo 🤣 I guess Master Mold T-1000 was in episode 5 and was taking out everything!! Omega level threat included!! 🤣
If you watch closely it also connects to Iron Man TAS with characters Wanda Maximoff and James Rhodes showing up at the party in Genosha. Then the scene between Scott, Jean, and Madelyne is a comic book cover art with Jean finding out Scott having affair with Madelyne where she is furious and Madelyne showing that evil smile.
Cable is actuality being voiced by Gambit's voice actor from the original series. Gambit and Jubilee are voiced by new voice actors who do a great job of sounding like the original actors.
I will admit when I first watched this I saw the Watcher, but entirely forgot the one rule of seeing him. If the Watcher is looking, it's because something crazy is about to happen. Totally didn't see it coming. Broke my heart big time. Still get choked up watching people reacting.
X-MEN 97 is WAAAY BETTER than the original series. The upgraded 🎨 art and storytelling was true to the comics with the real life complexities and high stakes implemented. This episode tone was high drama and dead serious. Just EPIC. 😮😊 Really loved this show.
even though im abit late, but i do notice, in the future vision of Jean/Madelyne in e1, we hear the latin lines from Happy Nation, which was used at the dance, before the Kaiju Sentinel attack
The insight you both have is very good and seeing things I do not is awesome. It makes me watch thing’s multiple times. Dustin The House of M would be so good to see. Thank you both for your reviews.
Cable was in the original series, in their take on Days of Future Past (which is why I don't think they'll undo this in that way), so Jean has met him before, which is why Madelyne recognized Cable. But at that time, Nathan hadn't been born yet, so it isn't until this episode, after Nathan gets sent to the future, that anyone recognizes that Cable is their son.
The first time he made it since he was born. Cable already appeared in prior seasons, but he did not reveal that he was her son (who she had not had - or never will have if it was before Sinister switched them).
In the comic books the mass murder of mutants in ganocia is a fix point but the mutants who die isn't and just because someones dead doesn't mean they stay that way.
Even then the only reason the genosha mutants could be properly resurrected was a plam by scarlet witch 2 to 3 years into mutants having a go to death cheat code. So a bit more permanent.
The Watcher is all seeing and knowing but couldn't intervene. I feel Jeffrey Wright could voice him somewhere down the line. Also this looks like it will connect again to Lazarus rising from X-Men TAS during the battle with Apocolypse but introduce maybe another threat in the form of another mutant maybe Cassandra Nova. The way this augmented version of Master Mold was so indestructible says it can withstand Mutant attacks. Also Chris Potter now voices Cable instead of Gambit says he has dealt with this in his time.
I was noticing from many reactions that at a certain still frame people missed the coolest tie in the watcher was watching this all happen spot is when the fireworks hit the sky you see him
@@TheMovieCouple great reflex he has with the eyes I almost missed it myself with everything going on and we know X-Men will be part of season 3 of what if so this is even more crazy knowing that

That wasn’t azazel that was exodus, and azazel isn’t Kurt’s father, they’ve retconned it back to the original idea of mystique and destiny
@@Kimota95 okay. So the flashback with Rogue with her mother was that Mystique disguised as her human counterpart?
@@Brook11223 yes that’s mystique, in the og show she never revealed her true form to rogue. Rogue only finds out in the end of S1 that mystique was actually her mother the whole
@@Kimota95 I think Valerie Cooper could be Mystique in disguise.
@@Kimota95To be fair, the retcon does still include Azazel's DNA as part of the whole thing.
Not really a spoiler because it's very different at rhis point to the comics counterpart, but in the comics the destruction of Genosha (that killed 16 millions mutants) was not undone by time travel shenanigans.
Thank god. i hate time travel for those reasons. There is no high stakes when everything can be undone.
What's more, "hab keine angst" were likely Erik's parents' last words. He said it just like them - knowing full well what would happen to him and very probably Leech. All the strife and work and he's brought to grief by genocidal monsters all over again. Damn. Just damn.
I also found it really symbolic that Magneto protected his people using a train.
@@ShadowyFox_86 And did it by using the train like a whip, in a land where mutants had been forced to work under slave drivers.
Magneto looking like Khan Noonien Singh in that flashback.
It was utterly mind-blowing.
Never expected a Red Wedding ep from Disney Xmen. What an incredible episode
Maybe Genoshas destruction is a fix point but maybe they can still save some people
I remember when Dustin mentioned how Master Mold in episode 1 was so easy to defeat lmaooo 🤣 I guess Master Mold T-1000 was in episode 5 and was taking out everything!!
It’s Emma. Not Madelyne in the comics.
Cable is actuality being voiced by Gambit's voice actor from the original series. Gambit and Jubilee are voiced by new voice actors who do a great job of sounding like the original actors.
Cables VA in this episode is Chris Potter, who was Gambit in the original 90s show
As soon as the Godzilla sentinel turned up If you noticed when it fires it sounds like one of the aliens ships from War of the Worlds
Your reaction immediately after gambit goes out like a G, says it all. 😂😂😂😭😭😭 badass laughter celebration into a deep dark depression 😩😩😩
Don't think she's seen Cable before. I think she realizes that its Nathan grown up and he'd survived with Bishop until adulthood.
Jean saw Cable before, but neither her or Maddie knew he was Nathan.
They could've done it better....the moment Madelyn finds out Cable was Nathan.
I will admit when I first watched this I saw the Watcher, but entirely forgot the one rule of seeing him. If the Watcher is looking, it's because something crazy is about to happen. Totally didn't see it coming. Broke my heart big time. Still get choked up watching people reacting.
the scoundrel finally proved himself a true hero
I did not catch The Watcher and hadn't until you pointed it out. Thanks for that :)
Lenore Zann went CRAZY with her delivery of that last line. Unreal performance
I nearly choked on my drink when you both said "They're gonna end the episode right here!" 😅
Such a beauty episode. One of the best episodes of any I've watched. Wow...
This episode was insanely good! It was breathtaking, devastating and incredible! 🙏🏽
X-MEN 97 is WAAAY BETTER than the original series. The upgraded 🎨 art and storytelling was true to the comics with the real life complexities and high stakes implemented. This episode tone was high drama and dead serious. Just EPIC. 😮😊 Really loved this show.
My dude is 4 steps ahead in the stories even talking about house of m, I love it!
even though im abit late, but i do notice, in the future vision of Jean/Madelyne in e1, we hear the latin lines from Happy Nation, which was used at the dance, before the Kaiju Sentinel attack
The insight you both have is very good and seeing things I do not is awesome. It makes me watch thing’s multiple times. Dustin The House of M would be so good to see. Thank you both for your reviews.
Damn great spot of The Watcher outline such a cool detail.
If that's how gambit dies for real then he will go down as one of the most legendary cartoon/comic characters in my book.
Love Gambit and Rogue so much this hits the heart hard big time bro😢
The Watcher is all seeing and knowing but couldn't intervene. I feel Jeffrey Wright could voice him somewhere down the line. Also this looks like it will connect again to Lazarus rising from X-Men TAS during the battle with Apocolypse but introduce maybe another threat in the form of another mutant maybe Cassandra Nova. The way this augmented version of Master Mold was so indestructible says it can withstand Mutant attacks. Also Chris Potter now voices Cable instead of Gambit says he has dealt with this in his time.
Or Bastion considering Cable said HE and we did see a silhouette of Bastion with one the pic last episode
I was noticing from many reactions that at a certain still frame people missed the coolest tie in the watcher was watching this all happen spot is when the fireworks hit the sky you see him
Dustin caught it =)
@@TheMovieCouple great reflex he has with the eyes I almost missed it myself with everything going on and we know X-Men will be part of season 3 of what if so this is even more crazy knowing that
Yeah, Dustin caught it at first watch!! 💯 Impressive 🔥
22:38 i think will get a "what if cable stopped the genosha genocide" and it unleashes age of apocalypse in what if season 3
I laughed when you all said "They're going to end it right here." Little did you know.
I find it funny how Dustin waited for Wendy to finish talking about being excited to see part 2 of Storm's story before talking about how today's episode was a different story..ooops! LOL! This episode was awesome and heartbreaking all at the same time! I love it how each episode is focusing more on different characters.
First time Rogue gets to touch Remy, and he's dead... T_T
3:18 - "My King, we're home." (Black Panther)
That’s not wakanda that’s genosha
man i did not see the watcher thats so cool man glad i watched this video
This has been an episode that honestly. This is what you should essentially handle from comics to live action films. Dnadole on a scale of emotionality and super special drama. Its animation is still impressive and x-men 97 is considered my great series of all this year. ''MY NA IS GAMBIT I REMEMBER IT'' 😭💔😭
This was the Red Wedding for teenagers 😭
By teenagers you mean us sad millennial oldies right?😂
@@deemccoy1482 Hey we're not old we're just...aging gracefully!
Damn I thought these marvel shows/movies would not make me cry yet again!!!! Oh my goodness(that rogue line at the end reminded me of Wanda saying she could not feel vision in wandavision @themoviecouple. Wow to many heartbreaking scenes in this episode!! This show is toooo good.
Dude, they put the watcher in a way so subtle.
