the problem with Apple, Samsung and Google are that they're stuck in the pre 2020 HDR era, where sensors were smaller and computational photography was needed. Their pictures looks way over processed now, digital, while pictures from Chinese phones are organic, have soul, and look like they were taken with professional cameras.

I would recommend including some more challenging scenarios when reviewing phones. There are some Russian reviers that do an excellent job at showing portraits in low light or photos with strong LED lights in the background and even simple zoom shots in difficult and harsh light. I have a friend who has an iPhone 15 Pro Max and when I compare it to my VIVO x100Pro in this kind of scenarios, it completely falls apart. My friend is fuming and cannot understand why his pictures are so bad. I tried to explain what a 1inch sensor is and other things, but he still defends Apple.
yeah these weren't crazy challenging situations, only a few where you can say, a big difference between shadow and a bright background, but it honestly isn't that hard for a lot of phones.... Yet here... Apple fails hard.
Apple reduced the black crush slightly on the 16s. They've generally taken "flat" photos for a while. I'm not a fan of the over processing on the iPhone's and Samsung's.
Seeing this while knowing how my wife's 13 pro max performs, I'm not surprised at all. I actually called the 13 pro max the WORST smartphone camera system I have ever seen/used and my wife agrees as well, she barely uses the cameras for photos, only for videos. I was hoping the 16 pro max will improve things as she plans to upgrade to it, but it just looks like the same old overprocessed and oversharpened crap like they always do
I am suprised! I always see everyone blowing the iPhones up and saying how amazing the camera is, but so far... yikes!!! I feel like if I want to get really good shots that can even remotly get close to what a Xiaomi or vivo do easily is by editing and REALLY helping it out with the pro mode for instance, because auto is just very poor!
I personally have never ever had a jittery zoom on iphone and dont think any brand in the world does better and i have owned many of them. I think youre being a bit harsh in this review but good video. Also portraits are amazing with really good edge detection. And the 24mp default is definitely better than the 12mp of the competition. But ofcourse everyone has their own opinion and i understand you from a photographers standpoint.👍🏻
The last good iphone was the one build by the dutch company aka asml. they were far better in cameras quality and zoom than the ones today. i mean the 11 and 12 were the peak
@@ThroughJermainesLens I'm saying this because that's my company xD. If you compare 11 to 16 zoom and quality photo, the 11 and 12 beat anything above the 12 and even more the 16
Yup as expected, just like s24 ultra there's no feel into it.. Xiaomi and Vivo, their cameras have that style inside them that make the photos feel like they're taken from a professional camera. the iPhone and Samsung.. look like just a regular over sharpened phone photos. Good phone photos.. but phone photos.
Hi! Now can you make a comparison video between xperia 1 VI and iphone 16 pro? I have an xperia 1 VI and an iphone 15 pro max and I really want a comparison between them and the ability to take photos and video! At the moment, there are no updates on the new iPhone either, usually the camera gets a little better after the updates, so we'll see when the updates come. My 15 pro max doesn't take such overexposed pictures or videos, maybe the 16 pro cameras haven't been properly updated yet. Thank you for this video!
I will see what i can do comparing it to the Sony, i am a bit slammed with comparisons I have to make hahaha 🤣 and they normally are around 30 minutes so a lot of editing and looking at the shots and creating a narration haha so give me time. Hope i can keep it long enough that Sony because they probably want it back soon
@@ThroughJermainesLens If you can't or it's difficult to make an xperia 1 VI, then there's no pressure. Everything is fine even if you don't make it and can't do it. @@42bill live photo fair, i of course never seen in in that sense. But for RAW sure. But many people do not shoot RAW. Heck with needing to go in to settings to even have that possibly which is weird why you do not have that by default on, i doubt many know they have set option And for the sharpening the problem is that it creates genuine issues on the shots. In low light and on the ultra wide it can do a lot of harm to the image.
@@ThroughJermainesLens Well, most people should not use RAW. Every image is around 26MB in that case, instead of just maybe 3 or 4 MB. Also with RAW the images will look dull and bad before processing. It’s really just for pros. And how can you live without Live Photos?? Your pictures of your cat do not "meow" at you when you click them? LOL. I agree that in your video, most of your images look flat and way over-sharpened. Something is strange here, as none of my own iPhone images look this bad. I just used my iPhone and my Canon DSLR at a wedding last weekend, and most of the time I have to zoom in really far, or look in the info, to tell if I shot an image with my iPhone or with my $3500 camera. Also my default iPhone cameras are always oversaturated, while yours are sometimes desaturated. Something seems strange with your iPhone. Have you watched some other UA-cam comparisons from other photographers? Most are concluding the iPhone is very close to the other top phones like Samsung/pixel.
Oh i am not a fan of the S24 Ultra at all... I tried it as well, and image look very blend and artificial. Some improvements where made later on, but still nothing great.
@@ThroughJermainesLens I might get to investigate if that’s a thing. Besides of that I now know why sometimes I get good looking shots and in difficult conditions, like taking a picture of the moon, my 13pro is so bad that I wish I had my iPhone 8 Plus back: inconsistency, like you said and maybe software based downgrades over the years to make people buy a newer model. But that’s just a feeling, no proofs here :)
The iPhone 16 Pro in cameras is not the best for me Xiaomi 14 Ultra surpasses this but I thought the new iPhone 16 could have good cameras but nothing better than what Chinese brands do in cameras

Bit disappointed you are judging it as a photographer, but decided against using the raw format. Its a very different story when raw files and lightroom are involved.
@@highfidelityart first impressions, and on youtube you cannot put RAW files, they are very compressed. And also auto photography has to be judged, you cannot say: well this phone is shit in auto, but fine in RAW, when most people will not toutch RAW even more so on an iPhone

I honestly dont know any photographers who dont shoot raw and edit. Again, as a review for the average person its a fine review.
@@highfidelityart photography isn't about raw, it is about jpg. That is way to shallow to look at it like that. Just like saying you must edit your pictures for it to be proper photography. Also I am a photographer, but that doesn't mean I should just do RAW and now showcase how auto will do from a photographers point of view. Auto mode matters, even more so on a phone.
So, what is the best camera phone of the year? I have no budget limits; I just want the best for photos and videos. What should I get? I need to change my phone right now, and the answer will determine my purchase. I’m coming from a OnePlus 12, and it’s a great phone. Everything about it is really enjoyable, even visually-it’s super comfortable on the eyes. However, I find the camera quality to be rather average. What’s better than that in terms of photography? Maybe Vivo X100 pro , I don’t know
Looking at these samples it just does not feel right...even for an older iphone, yet alone new model. Maybe they screwed up something in the software. In any case it looks bad to me.
That's what i am saying, if this is suppose to be the best... it's really bad... Sure it can take fine pictures like showcasing in cases, but if you just make it a tad more difficult it starts to struggle with mostly the Ultra wide just being horrible!
It seems to me Apple decided to go the exact opposite of Samsung. Where Samsung oversaturates everything, Apple desaturares too much. I prefer to get a desaturated photo than an oversaturated one 'cause it's easier to fix, but for over 1000€ I should NOT need to be worried about fixing images after shooting.
Arun is one youtuber who is most biased reviewer of iPhones ever. He claims the iPhone 16 pro Max camera is the best camera he has used on any smartphone. Even with his review with the S24 ultra claiming the 48 megapixel high res pics on the iPhone is better than 200mp high res pics on the S24 ultra when clearly it wasn't the case. He says the flat look and overexposed is the best among the balanced shot on the s24 ultra. His comparison was painful to watch when what you actually see is different from what I was seeing.

The lot of praises you hear of are the scripted reviews out there. The big UA-camrs that have the phone sent to them can't even give an honest review. And I hate it when they write in the caption " Honest review". Even when you know it's bad, they keep saying it the best camera on any phone
Yeah I really feel like I am being lead to believe it is good while it simply isn't... I really do not get it.. I will test it more, maybe somehow magic will happen at some point.
yes? So? You seem to think you must shoot raw to be a photographer, which is a dumb take from the get go. Not to mention that doing editing and shooting RAW would mean I wouldn't show what Auto does AT ALL! So people who shoot without shooting RAW and editing won't even know what this can do or cannot.

I'm not a fan of the over processing on the iPhone's and Samsung's.
aaah ok, still don't get why people like that then xD
I have found that photos may turn out slightly better if I turn off the Live Photos feature. Maybe something to consider?
Seeing this while knowing how my wife's 13 pro max performs, I'm not surprised at all. I actually called the 13 pro max the WORST smartphone camera system I have ever seen/used and my wife agrees as well, she barely uses the cameras for photos, only for videos. I was hoping the 16 pro max will improve things as she plans to upgrade to it, but it just looks like the same old overprocessed and oversharpened crap like they always do
I am suprised! I always see everyone blowing the iPhones up and saying how amazing the camera is, but so far... yikes!!! I feel like if I want to get really good shots that can even remotly get close to what a Xiaomi or vivo do easily is by editing and REALLY helping it out with the pro mode for instance, because auto is just very poor!
xiaomi 14 Ultra vs iPhone 16 pro camera review piz 😊
I personally have never ever had a jittery zoom on iphone and dont think any brand in the world does better and i have owned many of them. I think youre being a bit harsh in this review but good video. Also portraits are amazing with really good edge detection. And the 24mp default is definitely better than the 12mp of the competition. But ofcourse everyone has their own opinion and i understand you from a photographers standpoint.👍🏻
Try out the iPhone 13 pro max, much better photos and color balance, possibly the best iphone ever.
The last good iphone was the one build by the dutch company aka asml. they were far better in cameras quality and zoom than the ones today. i mean the 11 and 12 were the peak
Never knew that!! And yeah it's just not very good honestly...
@@ThroughJermainesLens I'm saying this because that's my company xD.
If you compare 11 to 16 zoom and quality photo, the 11 and 12 beat anything above the 12 and even more the 16
@@SupremeLordEnki oh you work for ASML? nice :)
I just had this feeling, watching your iPhone video, listening to it, that now that you have an iPhone, maybe you can make such a comparison and or a small video about these two phones. Thank you!
@@KriTaKriTaKriTa i will try my best!! I also saw a Sony Xperia Pro-I!!! 350 euro, but missed out on it 😭😭

yeah hopefully, I probably going outside in a bit to work with the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, then later in the evening low light photography with all of them.
@@ThroughJermainesLens Ohhhh ! Okay Can't Wait Man ! Can't Wait For That Video !
I thank you for your honest opinion
No problem!!!
Have to agree with others that Live Photos are amazing with young kids or pets. You get a little Burt’s of life when you hold down on every photo, that will one day be super precious to a parent when their kid is an annoying teenager!!
But I guess you need a Mac with the photos app. These files are not .mov files. They are HEIC.
Also if you don’t like the over sharpened and processed look, set your iPhone to shoot RAW files. Then you can expose them any way you want in your PC.
As an American I found your video interesting as we don’t have any Chinese branded phones in the USA.
@@42bill live photo fair, i of course never seen in in that sense. But for RAW sure. But many people do not shoot RAW. Heck with needing to go in to settings to even have that possibly which is weird why you do not have that by default on, i doubt many know they have set option
And for the sharpening the problem is that it creates genuine issues on the shots.
Please compare to mi 11 ultra 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing
One thing some androids especially Samsungs cant sort out is motion blur and shutter lag. I noticed it on my S24 Ultra and it was absolutely terrible.
Oh i am not a fan of the S24 Ultra at all... I tried it as well, and image look very blend and artificial. Some improvements where made later on, but still nothing great.
'Extra steps' that sums up ios for me 😂
I can't wait to see camera comparisons 😁
it needs help in auto just to get a good result...
I don't think you'll miss out much with iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max.
It's quite embarrassing how bad iPhone is for photography.
I agree!
Maybe you should‘ve disabled live photos. I‘m pretty sure my iphone13 pro Live Photos never had the quality of normal ones.
Would be very weird if that is a reason, why would they want the quality to hurt by that? But yes it is disabled now ;)
@@ThroughJermainesLens I might get to investigate if that’s a thing. But that’s just a feeling, no proofs here :)
i love china phone
The iPhone 16 Pro in cameras is not the best for me Xiaomi 14 Ultra surpasses this but I thought the new iPhone 16 could have good cameras but nothing better than what Chinese brands do in cameras

To be fair, there are more people asking for it ^^
The way it looks to me it is a shame that you spend that amound of money but who knows it gets better when you get to know the phone a bit more
yeah it is indeed.. And thank you for watching brother :)
Sir. I think you should improve the sound quality. It's to low.🙂
Noted;) will try to increase, I use my speakers and on that they are nice, but guess it really depends on the audio being used ^^
Please compare it with xiaomi 14 ultra thanks
Who’s going to take the word of a dude who has a 100 android videos and like 2 Apple videos😂😂Biased much…..Ill stick to people who do reviews equally not lopsided
oh because image having a shit ton of noise overexposure issues, and in low light with the ultra wide is every now and then simply unusable... yeah that's my BIAS that's not the product being bad, that is my bias. Nothing technically wrong with it at all.... suureeeeee
@@ThroughJermainesLens I'm with you when it comes to the average user who just wants to take their everyday photos, but the title of your video says you are judging it as a photographer.
Wow 😅 on 5:40 I thought it is a road on the iphone photo, then on Xiaomi I see its water...
whuahaha yeah it kinda does!!
Maybe Vivo X100 pro , I don’t know
x100u or wait for the x200pro
Vivo X100 pro is solid if you have a higher budget get the Ultra or wait for what is coming next year.
x100 ultra or xiaomi 14 ultra
@@RamlyJer No, I can’t take the Ultra because there is no global version. Maybe the X100 Pro yes
I’ll wait for his response and see.
@@XerazoX No, I tried the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for two weeks, and honestly, I didn’t find the camera quality that great.
So, I sent it back.
Make a comparison with vivo x100!
will come
Looking at these samples it just does not feel right...even for an older iphone, yet alone new model.
I prefer to get a desaturated photo than an oversaturated one 'cause it's easier to fix, but for over 1000€ I should NOT need to be worried about fixing images after shooting.
yeah pretty accurate! Both though are crazy good at over processing, like a talent of both
Great review.. and nice phone , I know how much you like it 😂😂😂😂

His comparison was painful to watch when what you actually see is different from what I was seeing.
you have to disable live view
I gotta be honest. My 12 pro max feels better in photography because of its dumbness in algorithms

Better to be with 15
