One of my favorite aspects of your videos is watching the close captioning (I have significant hearing loss). The southern in you shows when you say "boil", it shows as "bowl". The captioning usually understands oil, but occasionally shows as oal. Makes me laugh every time. I look forward to Tuesdays and Fridays for sure. Keep on keepin' on!

I married a southerner and the struggle is real when it comes to voice recognition software. AI technology absolutely CANNOT understand him. He gets so frustrated with Siri sometimes trying to voice to text or play a song. She never understands him correctly and always plays the most random music when he asks to hear a song. It’s so funny to me but it makes him super mad so I try REALLY hard not to laugh.

Chef here. Pretty much every culture in the world has it's own version of "chicken fried steak." Pounded and breaded cutlets of whatever animal is handy.
Schnitzel, Milanesa, Palomilla, Picatta, Katsu, just to name a few.
In the US, it's pretty much a Southern and Midwestern thing. You should see what they do in Indiana with a pork cutlet. Or Hawaii.

It’s country fried steak and although your recipe looks delicious, it was overly complicated. Next time you might want to try coating the meat in flour, salt and pepper then pan fry in half the oil. That’s really all that’s needed. We always add onions to the pan while frying and then add flour for gravy.

    • @nancybrewer8494
      @nancybrewer8494 4 місяці тому +2

It was chicken fried steak long before people started calling it country fried.

Raised two big hungry marines and a daughter who loves food, twice that because the same in grandkids, so I’ve cooked many many meals. I also had a catering business and have cooked for huge numbers, so I know my stuff. Hi Mandy, this dyed in the wool New England girl is loving your channel and southern charm. Every year I decide on a different cookbook in which to make a different recipe from every month. This year I decided to make at least one of your meals a month. I discovered you right around Christmas and already made the Rice, Beans and Kielbasa. Yum. I'm all alone so I'll be halfing your halfs.
Anyway I do have a tip for you, I've found the best thing to use for when you want to coat chicken, pork ect. in crumbs is a pie plate. It gives you the surface space of a plate, but with higher sides. I also use it for when I make French toast.
And I've heated up Leftovers in the microwave because my dinner dishes are vintage.
I hardly ever make pies but keep 2 pie plates in my cabinet.
Oh yeah, I take the stems off the spinach too. They go into my bag of veggie scraps in the freezer for making my own veggies broth.

Mandy, whenever I bread something I put my breaded meat on my cookie drying rack to let the breading set on the meat before cooking. That way the breading really attaches to the meat so It never falls off. I let it sit on that drying rack for about 5 mins before I cook it. Just an FYI for ya. We love chicken fried steak too.

I keep a box of gloves in my kitchen for breading things. Peel the icky gooey glove off when finished and voila! No mess. I also double dip my chx fry. First like you did in flour mixture then wet mix again THEN in crushed ritz. I freeze them awhile so breading stays on them fry. Oh. Yum. Yes, peppered gravy is next best thing to homemade. I make it in the pan with the drippings and you can’t tell the difference.

Another great edition. Two things to consider. ALWAYS choke up on a knife, so your thumb, first finger, and sometimes second, are on the metal right in front of the handle. MUCH more control. Cutting an onion, or other dense veg. with a finger on top of the blade is not safe.
Also the breading. Wet, and dry method. You were using your left hand to pick up the tenders from the drench, place that item on the plate with the dredge. The other hand only handles whatever is already in the dry coating mix, and to place it, in an air-fryer basket, on a pan, or holding tray, etc. Always glad to see the notification pop up for a new vid.

Tip I use my airfryer for all my fried stuff, since gallbladder removal in August. When frying in airfryer make sure you coat the flour where there is no dryness of flour showing. I make fried fish by dipping in egg and then in flour/cornmeal. My husband thinks its as good as frying it in oil on stove. We love watching you both and love hiow real you keep it!!😊

That chicken fried steak looks delicious. It’s definitely a southern thing. I need to add that to my next grocery list.

Hi Mandy. I love chicken fried steak but I hate to fry things. I’ve bought the frozen ones from Sam’s and they’re good. That Pioneer pepper gravy is really good! I love it when you sing. Only you would think of turning a Kool and the Gang song into a little kitchen jingle 😂🤣
    Thanks for sharing as always.🤗💕

One of your northern friends here. I believe chicken fried steak is a southern thing. I can never even find cube steaks in any of my grocery stores.

I’m in Ohio and we have cube steak in our grocery stores. They also sell frozen chicken fried steaks at Walmart.

Thanks Mandy for the great recipes. I want to try the Chicken Fried Steak as I have never had it before. I agree homemade gravy is the best, but when I need a substitute, I use the Heinz Gravy in a jar. The closest to homemade I have ever tried. Have a great weekend,

When breading chicken I normally use one hand to dip into the wet mixture and the other into the dry mixture. It seems to keep my hand from getting so gummy. Everything you cooked looks amazing! Y'all stay warm in this cold weather :)

I would have sprayed more oil to get rid of the flour on the chicken tenders and bake them a little longer to brown them.

The first time I had Chicken fried steak was in Texas. A friend made it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was her husbands favorite meal.

I had to come here and comment once i saw the pioneer gravy. Thats the one my family likes. I learned to make it from scratch but its just easier to make it from a packet sometimes.

Love you guys and your videos. I am born and raised here in California but, my great grandmother was from Arkansas and she taught me how to make this dish, so maybe it is a very southern thing that I still make often. ❤

I grew up in IL and grew up with chicken fried steak, Oreos, pickles, ravioli, candy bars, ice cream, twinkies....you name it, it's fried, especially at the locals fairs.

Love your channel! The cheeseburger pasta looks like it could have been dry as there was no extra liquid added. I love your accent! 😂 Also, how precise you are with the directions. Look forward to more recipes;.I'd like to see more batter chatter recipes, don't say you're not a baker. You can do it, just follow directions. Greetings from Minnesota!😊

I grew up in "SOUTH" Dakota in the 60's and we had chicken fried steak twice a month. So yes, it's a "southern" dish. ; )
